Book Going Down Under

Download or read book Going Down Under written by Gregory Charles and published by YEHKRI.COM A.C.C.. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Going Down Under is the transcript of a 10-Day Residential Sex & Relationship seminar that was delivered in Australia by Gregory Charles, The Aussie Relationship Guru. Is for anyone who is seeking deeper meaning and answers to a wide range of issues around the core topics of sex and relationships. So far it has been read by couples (who state it helped save their marriage), college students and other singles and couples from age 19 to 60 and has been greatly valued. The book is a necessary response to a dearth of meaningful information in a plethora of superficial, time-worn, moralistic answers to the issues of sex and relationships and their place in our lives. Especially in America, Gregory’s direct and honest Aussie approach has been welcomed as an antidote to the politically correct, judgmental puritanism that permeates this culture. Starting with the name, the content brings a wry sense of humor to matters that are usually treated as being heavy and serious.

Book D is for Down Under

Download or read book D is for Down Under written by Devin Scillian and published by Sleeping Bear Press. This book was released on 2011-03-04 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What country holds the title as the world's smallest continent and yet the world's largest island? I stands for island, but one that's not too small. Our island is enormous. Just try to see it all! There's no place else quite like it; that is clearly true. Australia is a continent, but it's an island, too. Originally founded as a penal colony, Australia has long been known for its contrasts (think: wild outback and sophisticated Sydney Opera House). Accompanied by vibrant colorful artwork, D is for Down Under: An Australia Alphabet captures the spirit of this proud country and its many treasures, natural and man-made. Visit spectacular Sydney Harbor, try your hand as a jackaroo working a sheep station, or just sit back and enjoy a Vegemite sandwich. Below the starry night glitter of the Southern Cross constellation, Australia's "down under" wonders shine brightly. Devin Scillian is an award-winning author and Emmy-award-winning broadcast journalist. His books with Sleeping Bear Press include the national bestseller A is for America: An American Alphabet. Devin lives in Michigan and anchors the news for WDIV-TV in Detroit. Geoff Cook has been illustrating for 35 years. His career began as a graphic designer, after graduating from Prahran College in Melbourne. Soon realizing he wanted to be an illustrator, he became a partner in the illustration studio All Australian Graffiti. He lives in Australia.

Book A Dingo Ate My Math Book

Download or read book A Dingo Ate My Math Book written by Burkard Polster and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-12-27 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Dingo Ate My Math Book presents ingenious, unusual, and beautiful nuggets of mathematics with a distinctly Australian flavor. It focuses, for example, on Australians' love of sports and gambling, and on Melbourne's iconic, mathematically inspired architecture. Written in a playful and humorous style, the book offers mathematical entertainment as well as a glimpse of Australian culture for the mathematically curious of all ages. This collection of engaging stories was extracted from the Maths Masters column that ran from 2007 to 2014 in Australia's Age newspaper. The maths masters in question are Burkard Polster and Marty Ross, two (immigrant) Aussie mathematicians, who each week would write about math in the news, providing a new look at old favorites, mathematical history, quirks of school mathematics—whatever took their fancy. All articles were written for a very general audience, with the intention of being as inviting as possible and assuming a minimum of mathematical background.

Book Down Under the Pier

Book excerpt: There’s lots of fun to be had up on the beach pier, but it’s down underneath where the true—and totally free—magic happens There’s lots of fun to be had up on the pier—the Ferris wheel, the rollercoaster, Skee-Ball and Whac-A-Mole, cotton candy, copper coins, the carousel. But it’s down under the pier, at low tide, where the real magic can be found. The best part? It’s free. Nell Beckerman’s poetic text and deep love of the intertidal zone, and Rachell Sumpter’s dreamy, “endless summer” art make this the perfect beach book.

Book Danger Down Under

Download or read book Danger Down Under written by Paul L. Holbert and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2001-01-16 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people look forward to their annual vacations. Some want to relax and do nothing while others seek the thrill of diving with man-eating sharks or bungee jumping from a suspension bridge high above a rock canyon to stir up their paltry existence. In Danger Down Under, a group of ordinary people from different walks of life find themselves in an extraordinary position. After recently leaving the military, Gary and his wife Amanda are hoping a vacation to Australia will mend their strained marriage. A day of charter fishing ends with them stranded by a storm on a small island with six fellow vacationers, none of who had any such activities in their getaway plans. Its the kind of thing that would make a body hire a new travel agent. While the group of castaways deal with their survival situation, Dr. Larry Williams, a scientist studying marine life off the northern coast of Australia discovers an unusual chemical imbalance of unknown origin in many of his specimens. As he searches for the cause, local residents began to disappear throwing a panic into the police department and the authorities mobilize to join in on the quest for answers. Research leads Dr. Williams to a library in Sydney that hints of a convoy from Germany sunk in 1943 by the American Navy on its way to Japan with a cargo of nerve agent. He also finds corroborating evidence from the local hotel manager whose uncle served as a coast watcher and begins to expose the cover up of a leak that is causing genetic aberrations in the water; one of which is an over sized Komodo Dragon. Mysteriously the uncle is poisoned. Concern over the fate of the shipwrecked tourists grows as the police deal with missing people from the town and Lieutenant Harry Morgan, commander of the search and rescue station, sends several vessels out to comb the area. Little does Dr. Williams know that there are forces at work trying to hamper his research and prevent him from learning any more than he already has. He eventually convinces his friend Captain Dave Weeks, an Army officer stationed in Hawaii, to listen to his conscience and help him expose the cover up. Risking his career and prison, Captain Weeks steals secret files about the convoy and leaves for Australia to assist the scientist. As science and government head on a collision course, the creature prowling the strait in search of food terrorizes Gary and his fellow castaways. It has developed a healthy appetite for human flesh by the way. Concerned that their safety is in jeopardy they decide to launch Gary out in their life raft to hopefully run down a passing boat or plane only to have him pounded by a storm. He is finally picked up by one of Lieutenant Morgans cutters but, thanks to the storm, no longer knows which direction he came from. The story comes to a head when Gary attempts to lead a rescue mission back for his wife and her fellow castaways before government agents can find them. Standing in their way is the government bureaucracy that wants to keep the secret intact and the creature that mans indifference has created. No boring 35mm vacation slides from this trip.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chief Terry Myell and Lieutenant Commander Jodenny Scott are in that most precarious of military situations, a mixed marriage. Enlisted and officer. It's unnatural. Terry and Jodenny have been assigned to duty on the planet Fortune, away from the huge ships that carry colonists from the wreckage of polluted Earth to clean new worlds across the galaxy. But there's another way besides spaceships to travel from world to world. A group within Team Space is exploring the Wondjina Spheres, a set of ancient alien artifacts that link places and times. Now those spheres have shut down and Team Space thinks that Terry and Jodenny are part of the key to make them work again —no matter how the two of them feel about it. They can volunteer, or be "volunteered." What the researchers can't anticipate is that the status quo, in which Team Space holds the monopoly on travel between worlds, is about to change. And as a result, Terry and Jodenny will be tested to their limits and beyond.... At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Book I for Isobel

    Book Details:
  • Author : Amy Witting
  • Publisher : Text Publishing
  • Release : 2014-01-29
  • ISBN : 1922148741
  • Pages : 201 pages

Download or read book I for Isobel written by Amy Witting and published by Text Publishing. This book was released on 2014-01-29 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Barbara Ramsden Prize, 1990. This was life: no sooner had you built yourself your little raft and felt secure than it came to pieces under you and you were swimming again. Born into a world without welcome, Isobel observes it as warily as an alien trying to pass for a native. Her collection of imaginary friends includes the Virgin Mary and Sherlock Holmes. Later she meets Byron, W.H. Auden and T.S. Eliot. Isobel is not so much at ease with the flesh-and-blood people she meets, and least of all with herself, until a lucky encounter and a little detective work reveal her identity and her true situation in life. I for Isobel, a modern-day Australian classic, was followed by Isobel on the Way to the Corner Shop, winner of the Age Book of the Year Award. Amy Witting was born in Annandale, an inner suburb of Sydney, in 1918. She attended Sydney University, then taught French and English in state schools. Beginning late in life she published six novels, including The Visit, I for Isobel, Isobel on the Way to the Corner Shop and Maria's War; two collections of short stories; two books of verse, Travel Diary and Beauty is the Straw; and her Collected Poems. 'When we come to write the history of Australian writing in the twentieth century, the strange case of Amy Witting will be there to haunt us. Here is a writer who not only has great gifts - the kind of expert and mimetic gifts that would impel instant recognition from someone who admired a fine-lined American naturalist like William Maxwell - but a realist who has an effortless immediacy and a compelling sense of drama that should have ensured the widest kind of appeal, the sort of appeal that Helen Garner could command in her fiction-writing days. And yet this woman who published in the New Yorker and commanded the respect of Kenneth Slessor was scarcely encouraged during the long grey sleep of Australian fiction publishing. It wasn't until the publication of I for Isobel...that Witting gained a national profile.' Peter Craven 'Australia's Amy Witting is comparable to Jean Rhys, but she has more starch, or vinegar. The effect is bracing.' New Yorker 'Isobel is instinctively searching for a lost part of her substance, the very memory of which has been obliterated. Prompted by her inexplicable sense of loss, she goes on her way, deviating, baffled, yet rejecting substitutes. To call the ending happy is to say both too much and too little. Was the lost part also searching for her? Amy Witting's admirers will find this novel as distinctive and compelling as her stories and her poetry.' Jessica Anderson '[Witting] lays bare with surgical precision the dynamics of families, sibling, students in coffee shops, office coteries. One sometimes feels positively winded with unsettling insights. There is something relentless, almost unnerving in her anatomising of foibles, fears obsessions, private shame, the nature of loneliness, the nature of panic.' Janette Turner Hospital 'A beautifully but unobtrusively honed style, a marvellous ear for dialogue, a generous understanding of the complex waywardness of men and women.' Andrew Riemer 'Terrific - incredibly wise...When I finished it I went straight back to the first page.' Cate Kennedy
