Book Islam Its Beauty and Wisdom

Download or read book Islam Its Beauty and Wisdom written by Gohar Mushtaq and published by . This book was released on 2010-01 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book Islam-Its Beauty & Wisdom is a novel presentation of Islam, interweaving traditional Islamic material with well-documented contemporary research from the physical and behavioral sciences. This book provides an understanding of the wisdom of Islamic teachings from a religious-scientific perspective. This is a refreshingly different approach to a classic subject of the wisdom behind Islamic acts of worship. It has meanings and relevance to both Muslim and non-Muslim readers. "This book first explains what the five pillars of Islam are in such a way any person, Muslim and non-Muslim, can understand and appreciate. It then heads in a direction I have never personally seen before in any religious manuscript. By this, I mean it provides us with an effective scientific reasoning to explain health benefits associated with Islamic acts of worship..... If one really wants to understand Islam, then I can think of no better place to start than this book by Dr. Mushtaq."-Jeffrey Ira Bernstein (Molecular Biologist, U.S.A.)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The culmination of Kärkkäinen's multivolume magnum opus This fifth and final volume of Veli-Matti Kärkkäinen's ambitious five-volume systematic theology develops a constructive Christian eschatology and ecclesiology in dialogue with the Christian tradition, with contemporary theology in all its global and contextual diversity, and with other major living faiths—Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. In Part One of the book Kärkkäinen discusses eschatology in the contexts of world faiths and natural sciences, including physical, cosmological, and neuroscientific theories. In Part Two, on ecclesiology, he adopts a deeply ecumenical approach. His proposal for greater Christian unity includes the various dimensions of the church's missional existence and a robust dialogical witness to other faith communities.

Book Radicalization in Pakistan

Download or read book Radicalization in Pakistan written by Muhammad Shoaib Pervez and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-29 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a critical analysis of radicalization in Pakistan by deconstructing the global and the official state narratives designed to restrain Pakistani radicalization. Chapters are centered around three distinct themes: educational norms, religious practices and geo-political aspects of radicalization to examine the prevalent state and global practices which propagate Pakistani radicalization discourse. The book argues that there is both a global agenda, which presents Pakistan as the epicenter and sponsor of terrorism, and a domestic, or official, agenda that portrays Pakistan as the state which sacrificed and suffered the most in the recent War on Terror, which allow the country to gain sympathy as a victim. Delineating both conflicting agendas through a critical analysis of global and state practices in order to understand the myths and narratives of radicalization in Pakistan constructed by powerful elites, the book enables readers to gain a better understanding of this phenomenon. A multidisciplinary critical approach to comprehending radicalization in Pakistan with innovative prescriptions for counter-radicalization policy, this book will be of interest to researchers working in the fields of International Relations, Security Studies, Asian Politics, as well as Religious Studies and Education, in particular in the context of South Asia.

Book Freedom of Expression in Islam

Download or read book Freedom of Expression in Islam written by Muhammad Khalid Masud and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-28 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Muslim countries, apostasy and blasphemy laws are defended on the grounds that they are based on Islamic Shari'a and intended to protect religion. But blasphemy and apostasy laws can be used both to suppress thought and debate and to harass religious minorities, both inside and outside Islam. This book – comprising contributions from Muslim scholars, experts and activists - critically and constructively engages with the theological, historical and legal reasoning behind the most restrictive state laws around the world to open up new ways of thinking. The book focuses on the struggle within Muslim societies in Iran, Egypt, Pakistan and Indonesia where blasphemy and apostasy laws serve powerful groups to silence dissent and stifle critical thought. The first part of the book covers the development of the law in shifting historical circumstances and surveys the interpretations of Qur'anic verses that seem to affirm freedom of religion. The second part examines the present politics and practices of prosecuting alleged blasphemers and/or apostates in Muslim countries. The third part looks to the future and where reforms of the law could be possible. Debates on Islam and freedom of expression are often cast in polarizing terms of rights versus religion, East versus West. This volume avoids such approaches by bringing together a diverse group of Muslim scholars and activists with the knowledge, commitment and courage to contest repressive interpretations of religion and provide a resource for reclaiming the human rights to freedom of expression and belief.

Book The Making of Modern Iran

Download or read book The Making of Modern Iran written by Dr Stephanie Cronin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays, by a distinguished group of specialists, offers a new and exciting interpretation of Riza Shah's Iran. A period of key importance, the years between 1921-1941 have, until now, remained relatively neglected. Recently, however, there has been a marked revival of interest in the history of these two decades and this collection brings together some of the best of this recent new scholarship. Illustrating the diversity and complexity of interpretations to which contemporary scholarship has given rise, the collection looks at both the high politics of the new state and at 'history from below', examining some of the fierce controversies which have arisen surrounding such issues as the gender politics of the new regime, the nature of its nationalism, and its treatment of minorities.

Book The Paradox of Islamic Finance

Download or read book The Paradox of Islamic Finance written by Ryan Calder and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How the booming Islamic finance industry became an ultramodern hybrid of religion and markets In just fifty years, Islamic finance has grown from a tiny experiment operated from a Volkswagen van to a thriving global industry worth more than the entire financial sector of India, South America, or Eastern Europe. You can now shop with an Islamic credit card, invest in Islamic bonds, and buy Islamic derivatives. But how has this spectacular growth been possible, given Islam’s strictures against interest? In The Paradox of Islamic Finance, Ryan Calder examines the Islamic finance boom, arguing that shariah scholars—experts in Islamic law who certify financial products as truly Islamic—have made the industry a profitable, if controversial, hybrid of religion and markets. Critics say Islamic finance merely reproduces conventional interest-based finance, with the shariah scholars’ blessing. From an economic perspective, they are right: the most popular Islamic products act like conventional interest-bearing ones, earning healthy profits for Islamic banks and global financial heavyweights like Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs. Yet as Calder shows by delving into the shariah scholars’ day-to-day work, what seem like high-tech work-arounds to outsiders carry deep and nuanced meaning to the scholars—and to the hundreds of millions of Muslims who respect their expertise. He argues that shariah scholars’ conception of Islamic finance is perfectly suited to the age of financialization and the global efflorescence of shariah-minded Islam.
