Book Doing Psychoanalysis in Tehran

Download or read book Doing Psychoanalysis in Tehran written by Gohar Homayounpour and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2012-09-14 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Western-trained psychoanalyst returns to her homeland and tells stories of displacement, nostalgia, love, and pain. Is psychoanalysis possible in the Islamic Republic of Iran? This is the question that Gohar Homayounpour poses to herself, and to us, at the beginning of this memoir of displacement, nostalgia, love, and pain. Twenty years after leaving her country, Homayounpour, an Iranian, Western-trained psychoanalyst, returns to Tehran to establish a psychoanalytic practice. When an American colleague exclaims, “I do not think that Iranians can free-associate!” Homayounpour responds that in her opinion Iranians do nothing but. Iranian culture, she says, revolves around stories. Why wouldn't Freud's methods work, given Iranians' need to talk? Thus begins a fascinating narrative of interlocking stories that resembles—more than a little—a psychoanalytic session. Homayounpour recounts the pleasure and pain of returning to her motherland, her passion for the work of Milan Kundera, her complex relationship with Kundera's Iranian translator (her father), and her own and other Iranians' anxieties of influence and disobedience. Woven throughout the narrative are glimpses of her sometimes frustrating, always candid, sessions with patients. Ms. N, a famous artist, dreams of abandonment and sits in the analyst's chair rather than on the analysand's couch; a young chador-clad woman expresses shame because she has lost her virginity; an eloquently suicidal young man cannot kill himself. As a psychoanalyst, Homayounpour knows that behind every story told is another story that remains untold. Doing Psychoanalysis in Tehran connects the stories, spoken and unspoken, that ordinary Iranians tell about their lives before their hour is up.

Book Advanced Applications in Osmotic Computing

Download or read book Advanced Applications in Osmotic Computing written by Revathy, G. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2024-03-04 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interaction of various service models, including edge computing and cloud computing, are quickly changing to better support microservices. This intricate weave of technology and information sharing is necessary to build systems that run faster and more efficiently. The interplay between these computing methods and microservices is emerging as the field of Osmotic Computing. Experts can now embark on an intellectual journey into data-driven exploration and ingenuity with the guidance of the book, Advanced Applications in Osmotic Computing. As ethical considerations become rising concerns, the potential biases, privacy encumbrances, and equitable conundrums of osmotic computing are investigated. This book offers judicious strategies to navigate these quandaries conscientiously, adding a layer of responsibility to the discourse. Within these pages, the very fabric of understanding in IoT, Cloud, Edge, Fog, and Machine Learning is redefined, marking a pivotal shift in the paradigm of technological comprehension. This book is an epicenter for the latest evolutions in osmotic computing, unfurling unconventional methodologies that shape the trajectory of data-driven decision-making. Readers will plunge into the theoretical bedrock, simultaneously witnessing pragmatic applications that adeptly bridge the schism between the theoretical constructs and pragmatic realization. The intended audience is multifaceted, encompassing data scientists, machine learning engineers, researchers, academics, educators, students, industry practitioners, interdisciplinary experts, and technology and business leaders.

Book Discrete Wavelet Transforms

Download or read book Discrete Wavelet Transforms written by Hannu Olkkonen and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-08-29 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) algorithms have a firm position in processing of signals in several areas of research and industry. As DWT provides both octave-scale frequency and spatial timing of the analyzed signal, it is constantly used to solve and treat more and more advanced problems. The present book: Discrete Wavelet Transforms: Algorithms and Applications reviews the recent progress in discrete wavelet transform algorithms and applications. The book covers a wide range of methods (e.g. lifting, shift invariance, multi-scale analysis) for constructing DWTs. The book chapters are organized into four major parts. Part I describes the progress in hardware implementations of the DWT algorithms. Applications include multitone modulation for ADSL and equalization techniques, a scalable architecture for FPGA-implementation, lifting based algorithm for VLSI implementation, comparison between DWT and FFT based OFDM and modified SPIHT codec. Part II addresses image processing algorithms such as multiresolution approach for edge detection, low bit rate image compression, low complexity implementation of CQF wavelets and compression of multi-component images. Part III focuses watermaking DWT algorithms. Finally, Part IV describes shift invariant DWTs, DC lossless property, DWT based analysis and estimation of colored noise and an application of the wavelet Galerkin method. The chapters of the present book consist of both tutorial and highly advanced material. Therefore, the book is intended to be a reference text for graduate students and researchers to obtain state-of-the-art knowledge on specific applications.

Book Killer Technique Classical Guitar

Download or read book Killer Technique Classical Guitar written by Gohar Vardanyan and published by Mel Bay Publications. This book was released on 2014-11-03 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All the exercises in Killer Technique: Classical Guitar are either based on orinspired by challenging passages and patterns that appear in compositions. Technical elements and passages have been stripped down and transformed into exercises to help the reader concentrate on specific targets through repetition. The exercises cover various techniques, such as finger independence in bothhands, different types of shifts, in-context slurs, in-context arpeggios, scales, tremolo and switches between different technical elements. The exercises are presented in standard notation and tablature. Explanations andinstructions are also provided. By using standard notation, the exercises include detailed information regarding fingerings and strings. Tablature versions of theexercises are also included, however, the rhythm and finger information is written in standard notation. The exercises are divided into two main sections: right-hand and left-hand. Eachsection consists of different categories specific to that hand. The exercises are not written in any particular order within each category - by practicing these exercises, the reader will master difficult technical transitions when they are encountered in compositional contexts
