Book God S Mystical Realism

Download or read book God S Mystical Realism written by Wilma Sheltman and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing about her indescribable Christ-driven unusual experience, Wilma returns to tell of a divine place over yondera place we describe as limbo to some, the place between heaven and hell. It is somewhere for people who are not Christians, those who are not walking the walk of Christianity now. Maybe a stopping off place many go to when they die. A place described as the place that is believed to be home to the souls of children who died before baptism or believers. The souls of the righteous who died stop there. Although they are barred from entry to heaven, they are not condemned to the eternal suffering of hell. Realizing the portal was the entrance to heaven, Wilma remembers she was in the presence of the Holy Spirit, turning to see Jesus Christ standing on the pathway. Yet Wilma returns from a divine place, with a burning personal desire inside to tell this story. Wilma presses daily to complete this manuscript and reveal to unbelievers that there is a place called skekinah, visiting God in prayer, a living God, revealing his mighty power besides telling of a mystical place where the soul descends to after death. In reality, we do meet Christ for his divine judgment. Daily, Wilma finds herself wanting to drift outside and sit in the yard swing that extends from a large hickory tree limb. In finding peace there, she sings and praises the Lord. At times, she feels his presence with her during prayer time there. The wind starts to blow softly, and she closes her eyes. At this point, he comes to her as a feeling in her heart that he is there with her. She feels his presence as the wind stops, and there is a silence that only she and Christ can feel.

Book excerpt: The Light Lord, as I kneel beside my bed And I begin to pray Your Spirit overwhelms me As I search for words to say. As I close my eyes and bow my head I see a shining light Coming closer towards me Brightening up the night. As I let the light surround me I keep perfectly still As silent tears fall, I say Father, help me to do Your Will. You pulled me out of the darkness When all my hope was gone You gently set me on my feet As Your Hand I leant upon. You showed me all the goodness Lord That I had never known And the seed You planted in me At last, has finally grown. Then a voice inside me spoke aloud Open your eyes child and see. The light around you will remain And forever more will be. I chose you a long, long time ago But it had to be your choice To break away from Satans power Now at last we can rejoice. The angels sang and also cried When you first came to me. They surrounded you with their love As you accepted The Holy Trinity Things will become hard at first As Satan begins to fight But keep at peace and dont forget The brightness of this light. Now its time for you to sleep And with you Ill remain Keep your faith and hang on to me And Ill take away your pain. Dont take away Your Light I said As it began to dim Do not be afraid, said the Lord As Ive planted the Light within.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a cinematic culture where multiple visions of reality "play" at the same time, it is critical that Christian believers know how to confidently identify and "discern," among other stories, the Jesus-story that defines their most important commitment in life. Using the optical metaphor of the "eye of faith," the author identifies the spiritual life as a "visual life." Through themes such as "looking through Jesus' eyes," the bible as a "visionary text," and the church as a "wide-eyed people," he builds a connecting bridge between the seeing-soul in Christian spirituality, and the twenty-first century as the "age of the eye." The key words for this exploration are spirituality, discipleship, insight, luminescence, and optical "therapy." The author proposes the need for a "catechism of the eye" that will lead to the renewal of Christian ministry, spirituality, discipleship, and identity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does God manifest himself in the world? Through the righteous lives of his holy people (the saints). As a religion of witnesses, Christianity is dependent upon its saints (defined as activated disciples) to "testify" to the grace of Christ and the kingdom of God. Their lives are walking billboards of the value of Jesus' teaching and authenticity of Christianity as an ancient spiritual pathway. This is a book about saints who are alive now, and whose everyday acts of kindness and goodness announce that God is at work in the world. Like Jesus, their Master, they are the message, the messenger, and the working model of the kingdom of God, in a lesser key. In following Jesus, ordinary saints are willing to give away their lives in order to convey the substance of their faith to a watching world. If ever there was a time when saints need to live courageously for Christ in the world, it is now. But it will take conviction, credibility, and a great deal of audacity. Ordinary Saints explores what it means to be a saint in the twenty-first century, by exploring the depth-dimensions of saints' lives, bodies, emotions, values, and relationships.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This innovative work is an introduction to Christian theology with a difference. Not only does it interpret, with clarity and energy, fundamental Christian beliefs but it also shows how and why these beliefs arose, promoting an understanding of theological reflection that encourages readers to think theologically themselves. From Irenaeus and Aquinas to Girard, from Augustine to Zizioulas and contemporary feminist thought, Divine Teaching explores the ways in which major thinkers in the Christian tradition have shaped theology through the wide variety of their encounters with God. It makes theological study adventurous and interactive, not necessarily requiring a faith commitment from all, but allowing readers a thoughtful involvement in the subject that takes seriously the Christian vision of God as the ultimate teacher of theology. Divine Teaching: An Introduction to Christian Theology is an imaginative and lively analysis of the Christian way of thinking, offering vivid and informing insight into the history and practice of Christian theology.

Book Vatican II

  • Author : Matthew L Lamb
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press

  • ISBN : 0199887225
  • Pages : 485 pages

Download or read book Vatican II written by Matthew L Lamb and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1962 to 1965, in perhaps the most important religious event of the twentieth century, the Second Vatican Council met to plot a course for the future of the Roman Catholic Church. After thousands of speeches, resolutions, and votes, the Council issued sixteen official documents on topics ranging from divine revelation to relations with non-Christians. In many ways, though, the real challenges began after the council was over and Catholics began to argue over the interpretation of the documents. Many analysts perceived the Council's far-reaching changes as breaks with Church tradition, and soon this became the dominant bias in the American and other media, which lacked the theological background to approach the documents on their own terms. In Vatican II: Renewal Within Tradition, an international team of theologians offers a different reading of the documents from Vatican II. The Council was indeed putting forth a vision for the future of the Church, but that vision was grounded in two millennia of tradition. Taken together, these essays demonstrate that Vatican II's documents are a development from an established antecedent in the Roman Catholic Church. Each chapter contextualizes Vatican II teachings within that rich tradition. The resulting book is an indispensable and accessible companion to the Council's developments, one that focuses on theology and transcends the mass-media storyline of "liberal" versus "conservative."

Book Consciousness The Final Frontier

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Your journey to inner peace and fulfilment Based on the popular TEDx talk of the same name, Consciousness: The Final Frontier takes us on a journey of self-discovery. Merging the esoteric and the mundane, tapping into ancient and contemporary wisdom, and using real-life examples, Dada Gunamuktananda explores the concept of our own consciousness as part of—indeed one with—a conscious universe. He shows how to connect with the supreme teacher within us through simple and sustainable changes to our daily life. These changes include following a yogic lifestyle, practising meditation, maintaining good hygiene and health, among others. This book not only puts forth the case for a conscious universe and how a life lived in consciousness leads to inner peace, love and fulfilment within oneself, but also how these positive feelings can overflow into love and compassion for all. Combining philosophy and practice, Dada explains how even in times of crisis—even amidst the life challenges of today’s world—it is possible to not just survive but to thrive and strive for a better self and a better world.

It is the ultimate grammar guide, literally awesome, and begs the question: why not buy two?

Book The Tempter s Voice

Download or read book The Tempter s Voice written by Eric Jager and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-07-05 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why was the story of Adam, Eve, and the Serpent so important to medieval literary culture? Eric Jager argues that during the Middle Ages the story of the Fall was incorporated into a comprehensive myth about language. Drawing on a wide range of texts, Jager shows how patristic and medieval authors used the Fall to confront practical and theoretical problems in many areas of life and thought—including education, hermeneutics, rhetoric, feudal politics, and gender relations. Jager explores the Fall's meaning for clergy and laity, nobles and commoners, men and women.Among the works Jager discusses are texts by Ambrose, Augustine, the early Christian poet Avitus, and scholastic authors; Old English biblical epics; Middle English spiritual writings; French courtesy books; and the poetry of Dante and Chaucer. Examples from the visual arts are included as well. Jager links medieval interpretations of the Fall to underlying cultural anxieties about the ambiguity of the sign, the instability of oral tradition, the pleasure of the text, and the many rhetorical guises of the tempter's voice. He also assesses the modern and postmodern legacy of the Fall, showing how this myth continues to embody central ideas concerning language. The Tempter's Voice will be essential reading for scholars and students in such fields as medieval studies, literary theory, gender theory, comparative literature, cultural history, and the history of religion.

Book excerpt: At a wedding reception a woman encounters a lover, and an image of herself, she has not seen in more than twenty years. On a road-trip a father listens to the conversation of his two adolescent daughters and hears between the lines previously undetected clues to their changing identities. A man confronts the loss of his wife of many decades by recognizing a new means of communication and reunion. Disconcerted by the weirdly converging dreams and sightings of a boyhood acquaintance, an Episcopal priest searches for meaning among shifting shards of memory, chance, and intention. A retired couple establish a bond of trust with a neglected child and find themselves goaded into an unexpected future of perplexity and promise. All of these characters are poised on the brink of change-sometimes only vaguely understood, sometimes unmistakably life-altering and irreversible. In every case these changes afford a degree of revelation and make some urgent demand for new assessment, perspective, action. The ten stories in this collection by Hadley Hury are set primarily in the South, many in and around Memphis, and examine with tough wit and expansive spirit its people and the place. But like any good stories, they defy the limited focus of regionalism and explore the universal anatomies of love, vulnerability, loss, humor, and hope. Praise for Hury's The Edge of the Gulf- In Hury's engrossing suspense novel a deadly mystery combines with the greater mystery of the protagonist's loss and recovery to illustrate beautifully the resilience of the human spirit An assured debut. -Publishers Weekly This first novel offers complex characters, subtle intrigue, well-crafted prose, and a small-town, oceanfront ethos. -Library Journal a powerful work of psychological suspense. -Allreaders.com
