Download or read book Neville Goddard s Teachings written by IntroBooks Team and published by IntroBooks. This book was released on with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neville Goddard was a fervent believer in the power of imagination to bring dreams to life. People frequently draw inspiration from their surroundings, believing that this is true; yet, vision comes first. Human beings are thus repeatedly recreating their history by focussing on tangible things. Human life itself is a creation of the human mind. From the mid-thirties until he died in 1972, Neville Goddard preached from the perspective of God, insisting that the Bible is indeed a divine narrative scripted to exchange information with the ordinary people and to communicate it in metaphors that are spoken from the heart. It was not a popular or commonly accepted view during that age. However, since his thoughts were revolutionary in so many dimensions, most people decided to adopt his maxims. Neville epitomized the lucidity and innovative thought process of other individuals of the contemporary era with his self-awareness in the domain of metaphysics.

Download or read book The Royal Doctors 1485 1714 written by Elizabeth Lane Furdell and published by University Rochester Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing upon a myriad of primary and secondary historical sources, The Royal Doctors: Medical Personnel at the Tudor and Stuart Courts investigates the influential individuals who attended England's most important patients during a pivotal epoch in the evolution of the state and the medical profession. Over three hundred men (and a handful of women), heretofore unexamined as a group, made up the medical staff of the Tudor and Stuart kings and queens of England (as well as the Lord Protectorships of Oliver and Richard Cromwell). The royal doctors faced enormous challenges in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries from diseases that respected no rank and threatened the very security of the realm. Moreover, they had to weather political and religious upheavals that led to regicide and revolution, as well as cope with sharp theoretical and jurisdictional divisions within English medicine. The rulers often interceded in medical controversies at the behest of their royal doctors, bringing sovereign authority to bear on the condition of medicine. Elizabeth Lane Furdell is Professor of History at the University of North Florida.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Like a shadow that does not depart” is the exciting biography of Ananda, Buddha’s attendant during the last 25 years of his life. In an age before writing, Ananda heard and memorized all of Buddha’s estimated 84,000 sermons and 15,000 stanzas without omitting a syllable. He also strongly advocated a Buddhist order of nuns, which Buddha approved. Although Ananda did not become enlightened until Buddha’s parinirvanization, he was de facto Chief-of-Staff for Buddha. Ananda scheduled Buddha’s appointments, so he exerted enormous power over who could see Buddha, even the senior enlightened arhats, who technically out-ranked Ananda. Ananda implemented important organizational changes in the sangha as it grew; thereby giving Buddha a planned, structured system for his travels and sermons. He was Buddha’s constant shadow. He ministered to Buddha’s needs. He set up Buddha’s camp when the sangha was traveling. He guarded Buddha with his ever-present staff. Ananda was one of Buddha’s pivotal disciples. Without his incredible photographic memory and methodical approach, it is questionable whether Buddhism would have grown into a major religion.

Download or read book Inventing the Feeble Mind written by James Trent and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pity, disgust, fear, cure, and prevention--all are words that Americans have used to make sense of what today we call intellectual disability. Inventing the Feeble Mind explores the history of this disability from its several identifications over the past 200 years: idiocy, imbecility, feeblemindedness, mental defect, mental deficiency, mental retardation, and most recently intellectual disability. Using institutional records, private correspondence, personal memories, and rare photographs, James Trent argues that the economic vulnerability of intellectually disabled people (and often their families), more than the claims made for their intellectual and social limitations, has shaped meaning, services, and policies in United States history.
