Book excerpt: The early Christian church faced persecution from several different sources, primarily that of Judaistic sympathizers, such as Hellenistic Jews (Greek Jews) and the Roman Empire. This persecution gave rise to men and woman who would rather face death than deny Yahvahshua (whom we call Jesus). Many suffered excruciating death by burning, beheading, crucifixion, or as entertainment in the Roman Colosseum. There they were forced to fight trained and experienced gladiators or face starving wild animals. Few survived their first encounter. During this period of time, men, whose names have survived to this day, fearlessly preached and taught the Word of God, knowing at any moment they could be arrested for blasphemy against the emperor, the self-proclaimed god of Rome. Such a man was Polycarp. Little is known of Polycarp, however, that which is known spurs the imagination. More is recorded of his death than of his life. Gods Warriors is a story of Polycarp and Flavius, a young tribune in the Roman army whose first assignment is to squelch the riots allegedly perpetrated by Christians in Smyrna. His eventual contact with the Bishop of Smyrna changes his life to the extent that Rome places him on its list of traitorsa crime punishable by death.

Book excerpt: Acclaimed author James Reston, Jr.'s Warriors of God is the rich and engaging account of the Third Crusade (1187-1192), a conflict that would shape world history for centuries and which can still be felt in the Middle East and throughout the world today. James Reston, Jr. offers a gripping narrative of the epic battle that left Jerusalem in Muslim hands until the twentieth century, bringing an objective perspective to the gallantry, greed, and religious fervor that fueled the bloody clash between Christians and Muslims. As he recounts this rousing story, Reston brings to life the two legendary figures who led their armies against each other. He offers compelling portraits of Saladin, the wise and highly cultured leader who created a united empire, and Richard the Lionheart, the romantic personification of chivalry who emerges here in his full complexity and contradictions. From its riveting scenes of blood-soaked battles to its pageant of fascinating, larger-than-life characters, Warriors of God is essential history, history that helps us understand today's world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we receive Christ as Savior, we enter combat against Satan and his wicked troops. This fierce, cosmic war began in the Garden of Eden and will continue until Jesus returns to destroy forever the evil that runs rampant upon the Earth. It's impossible for God's warriors to watch others engage in spiritual combat from a position of security. Satan attacks us around the clock, and an ambush could come at any time. In addition, God wants us to take the offensive, encouraging our fellow soldiers and recruiting new members into His forces. Forward into Battle examines the similarities between serving in the armed forces and serving the Lord. Written by a 33-year military veteran, the book reviews the radical transformation God's warriors experience when they begin serving in His forces, the mission God has given us and the weapons He's provided, intelligence on our evil enemy, operations on the spiritual battlefield, a Biblical concept of leadership, and the heavenly rewards we'll receive when our service on Earth ends. Each chapter includes questions for group or individual study as well as a personal assessment to enable readers to plan how to apply the reading's lessons in their service in God's army.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In America, you have the SWAT unit. A SWAT (special weapons and tactics) team is a law enforcement unit that uses specialized or military equipment and tactics. So, why are we talking about SWAT? Because in the Body of Christ, we also need to become disciples of God warriors who are trained in spiritual warfare and tactics). We need to know how this spiritual warfare works, what are our weapons and we must know how to use them. We are called to be warriors of discernment, of knowing the tactics of the enemy, of adopting God’s strategy in spiritual warfare and employing God’s weapons of warfare. God is calling for a remnant to take up “arms”, meaning walking in their spiritual authority to set the captives free, bind up the broken-hearted and proclaim the wonderful news of Christ that still sets free and redeems. Believers have been empowered to be part of the end-time remnant of SWAT warriors by the Spirit and Word of God. We have been granted authority by Jesus! So all disciples are called to heal the sick, cast out demons, and preach the Gospel. We can bring light and liberty to those walking in darkness. As disciples, we have all been called and sent out in the Lord's stead to do His work.
