Book excerpt: The relationship between eternity and time is a common subject for theologians and philosophers. What difference does it make for this discussion that God became man and inhabited time in Jesus Christ? In God’s Time for Us, James J. Cassidy examines the theology of Karl Barth to show that God is our Father who does not neglect us for lack of time; he is the God who has time to be with us. God also quite literally has time in his own being by virtue of the incarnation. Cassidy shows that Barth seeks a rapprochement between eternity and time, which is overcome by Jesus Christ. There is today a resurgence in interest in the theology of Barth, especially among evangelicals. Yet Barth is often read without discernment and discussed in churches without full understanding. Cassidy illuminates his thought so evangelicals can make a better, more well-informed appraisal of the man and his theology.

Book excerpt: Many people today are thirsty for God and feel a desire for an intense, personal prayer life that is deep and ongoing. But they encounter obstacles that prevent them from following the path seriously, and especially from persevering on it. Time for God was written with these desires and difficulties in mind. In Time for God, author Jacques Philippe mainly concentrates on mental prayer: prayer that consists of facing God in solitude and silence for a time in order to enter into intimate, loving communion with him. Practicing this kind of prayer regularly is considered by all spiritual masters to be an indispensable path that gives access to genuine Christian life—a path to knowing and loving God that empowers us to respond to his call to holiness addressed to each individual. Philippe draws on years of experience as a spiritual guide to illuminate the fundamental principles of mental prayer and describes some common mistakes and misconceptions that can lead it astray. With simplicity and clarity he explains the foundational principles for a healthy prayer life and gives advice for overcoming the various obstacles that arise when one sets off on the path of interior prayer.

Going beyond the basic definitions of kairos and chronos, Dutch brings fresh insight to the subject, examining Scripture to show how kairos (strategic) times and chronos (general) times are not two separate and unrelated seasons in our lives but rather, are often simply different phases of the same process. Dutch looks at how God brought about His divine shift in the lives of men and women throughout the Bible, and the many ways in which God used these seasons of change to deepen His people's understanding of Him.

Download or read book Trusting God s Timing written by Steven Stoffelsen and published by Word Alive Press. This book was released on 2017-01-17 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many times Christians excitedly receive a promise or vision from God. From that moment forward, they want to tell the whole world what God is going to do in and through them. It’s so exciting to have a promise from God. The Bible says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). But when God gives us a promise or vision, it takes time to see it fulfilled. Rarely is the vision for tomorrow or even the next year. It’s for a certain time set by God. He shows it to you early, but He still wants to prepare you for the journey ahead. Many Christians get discouraged during this process and walk away from God. But so many people in the Bible—like Abraham, Joseph, and David—had to go through years of preparation before they saw their visions fulfilled. They waited a long time, probably longer than most of us. Be encouraged and don’t let a thing called time destroy you before you even start. God is for you, and what He’s promised He will bring to pass.

But once you understand the purpose of pain, you can make the most of the painful experiences in life. In The Furnace of Affliction: How God Uses Our Pain and Suffering for His Purpose, Horace Williams, Jr. tackles this challenging topic. Based on the Word of God, insights from other leaders, and his studies, he addresses several key points, including: How pain develops our faith How pain determines our path How pain delivers comfort, joy, and peace And how pain deepens our commitment to God. Packed with personal stories and scripture to support his points, Horace shares his insights on the problem of pain. His candid and straightforward communication style engages the reader as he addresses this critical topic for the body of Christ today.

Book The Way of Trust and Love

Download or read book The Way of Trust and Love written by Jacques Philippe and published by Scepter Publishers. This book was released on 2012 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: St. Thérèse of Lisieux sought a new way to Heaven: ¿a little way that is quite straight, quite short: a completely new little way.¿ Blessed with personal limitations that might have discouraged another, Thérèse believed God would not have given her a desire for holiness if He did not intend for her to achieve it. She learned to humbly accept herself as she was and trust completely in God¿s love. First given as a retreat by renowned author Father Jacques Philippe, The Way of Trust and Love navigates excerpts of St. Thérèse¿s writings phrase by phrase, extracting powerful, resonating insights. To Thérèse, the journey seemed ¿little¿ as she traveled it. A hundred and fifteen years after her death, the message of the young saint and Doctor of the Church has traveled around the world inspiring millions. With this newly translated study of her spirituality, many today will rediscover¿or find for the first time¿the relevance of ¿the little way,¿ in all seasons of life. Fr. Jacques Philippe is well-known for his books on prayer and spirituality. A member of the Community of the Beatitudes, he regularly preaches retreats in France and abroad. He also spends much of his time giving spiritual direction and working for the development of the Community in Asia and Oceania where he travels frequently.

Book excerpt: Scripture reveals a God who meets us where we are, not where we pretend to be. No More Faking Fine is your invitation to get honest with God through the life-giving language of lament. If you've ever been given empty clichés during challenging times, you know how painful it is to be misunderstood by well-meaning people. When life hurts, we often feel pressure--from others and ourselves--to keep it together, suck it up, or pray it away. But Scripture reveals a God who lovingly invites us to give honest voice to our emotions when life hits hard. For most of her life, Esther Fleece Allen believed she could bypass the painful emotions of her broken past by shutting them down altogether. She was known as an achiever and an overcomer on the fast track to success. But in silencing her pain, she robbed herself of the opportunity to be healed. Maybe you've done the same. Esther's journey into healing began when she discovered that God has given us a real-world way to deal with raw emotions and an alternative to the coping mechanisms that end up causing more pain. It's called lament--the gut-level, honest prayer that God never ignores, never silences, and never wastes. No More Faking Fine is your permission to lament, taking you on a journey down the unexpected pathway to true intimacy with God. Drawing from careful biblical study and hard-won insight, Esther reveals how to use God's own language to come closer to him as he leads us through our pain to the light on the other side, teaching you that: We are robbing ourselves of a divine mystery and a divine intimacy when we pretend to have it all together God does not expect us to be perfect; instead, he meets us where we are There is hope beyond your heartache, disappointment, and grief Like Esther, you'll soon find that when one person stops faking fine, it gives everyone else permission to do the same.

Hasker's book has three commendable features worthy of immediate note. First, it contains a carefully crafted overview of the recent literature on foreknowledge and freedom and so can serve as an excellent introduction to that literature. Second, it is tightly reasoned and brimming with brisk arguments, many of them highly original. Third, it correctly situates the philosophical dispute over foreknowledge and freedom within its proper theological context and in so doing highlights the intimate connection between the doctrines of divine omniscience and divine providence."—Faith and Philosophy"[God, Time, and Knowledge] is an elegantly written, forcefully argued challenge to traditional views, and a major contribution to the discussion of divine foreknowledge."—Philosophical Review"This is a very competent, thorough analysis of the conflict between free will and divine foreknowledge (or, on some acounts, timeless divine knowledge of our future). It is exceptionally clear."—Theological Book Review

The 'why' and 'how' of God's time is explained in his book '"God's Timing: Are Your Hands Tied"?'

Book excerpt: What you believe about God sets the foundation of the person you will become. In God Has a Name, pastor and New York Times bestselling author John Mark Comer invites you to rethink many of the prevalent myths and misconceptions about God and weigh them against what God actually tells us about himself. After all, what you believe about God will ultimately shape the type of person you become. We all live at the mercy of our ideas, and nowhere is this more true than our ideas about God. The problem is many of our ideas about God are wrong. Not all wrong, but wrong enough to form our souls in detrimental and disheartening ways. God Has a Name is a simple yet profound guide to understanding God in a new light--focusing on what God says about himself in the Bible. This one shift has the potential to radically alter how you relate to God, not as a doctrine, but as a relational being who responds to you in an elastic, back-and-forth way. John Mark Comer takes you line by line through Exodus 34:6-8--Yahweh's self-revelation on Mount Sinai, one of the most quoted passages in the Bible. Along the way, Comer addresses some of the most profound questions he came across as he studied these noted lines in Exodus, including: Why do we feel this gap between us and God? Could it be that a lot of what we think about God is wrong? Not all wrong, but wrong enough to mess up how we relate to him? What if our "God" is really a projection of our own identity, ideas, and desires? What if the real God is different, but far better than we could ever imagine? No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, God Has a Name invites you to step into a fresh and biblically rooted vision of who God is that has the potential to alter your life with God and shape who you become.

Book excerpt: Israel: God's Time Clock! WHAT LIES AHEAD FOR the MIDDLE EAST, the UNITED STATES, and ALL MANKIND. The author was saved in a Baptist church at the age of 14. While looking through books in the church library he came across one that touched on Bible Prophecy. When a Church Deacon heard of his interest, he gave him copies of The Book of Daniel and The Book of Revelation by Clarence Larkin. From that time on he spent much time in the study of the Bible and especially prophecy. Later he became an evangelist as well as a pastor of several churches. In addition he earned several degrees in theology. After retirement he has turned to writing and hopes to be a blessing by sharing God's Prophetic Word. In this book he attempts to present what he feels is a clear picture of the future as described in the Bible. It is his conviction that these are literally the Biblical "last days," and that the "rapture of the church" could occur at any moment. Hopefully, all who read it, especially any who have not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, will be drawn into a place of blessing and spiritual fellowship with the one "who died that we might live."

Download or read book God Is Always On Time written by Annett Hill and published by . This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GOD IS ALWAYS ON TIME. This book is specially prepared for those who might not be sure of what to do when it seems God is silent and has not replied to their request, despite several years of earnest prayer. Right now: -Are you thinking if anything good can come out of you?-Do you feel left alone and forgotten?-Are you on the verge of losing hope? Well, that makes the two of us. Many times, I had asked myself if anything good could ever happen to me or in my life. I had felt if my life could ever get any better. There were times I became devastated with no flicker of hope, let alone a ray of a better future ahead of me. I felt God had left me alone. However, I was wrong all those times. I was wrong to think my life was in shambles because of the hardship I was facing. I was wrong to think God had forgotten me while he was preparing for me a hope and a future. I was even wrong to count myself as nobody when God sees me as the very apple of His eyes. It is so fascinating to know how God brings beauty out of ashes, gold out of the mire, glory out of the dunghill, purpose out of problems, and fame out of shame. The bible says: "And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."-John 1:46In the Bible, Nazareth was a very insignificant town in Israel. People never thought anything worthwhile could be said of Nazareth. Nazareth was a nondescript dot on the map. However, God used the nothingness of Nazareth and made them an object of envy for the nations of the world. Jesus Christ, the messiah of the world, came out that small town. Maybe you have been written off, and people had called you forsaken, just as people said if anything good could come out of Nazareth. Some people might have said to your face that you can't amount to anything in life again and that had done harm to your self-worth. However, today, I bring you good news from the Almighty God. God is about to take you out of shame into fame, and your glory will become a shining light for the world to see. You are coming out of obscurity into prosperity. My life is a testimony of God's favor is synonymous with the way God favored Esther before the King Ahasuerus (Esther 5:8). Who would have thought that a commoner like Esther could be crown a Queen? Nevertheless, she was because God favored her above her equals and counterpart. Just a day of favor from God is enough to wipe away many nights of tears. God's favor makes you appear like a 'superman' before others because, indeed, the favor of God comes with supernatural lifting. It will interest you to know that the favor of God can end the struggle of many years and grant you accelerated speed to run and outrun others. Barriers are broken. Obstacles are removed. Protocols are ignored when God chooses to favor any person. Just a night of favor can turn around many years of pain, hurts, and failureI congratulate you because you are about to enter into a new dimension of God's favor, goodness, love, and unending mercy, through the pages of this divinely inspired book. This book will show you how to see God in every situation of life, and it will restore hope, faith, and trust in God for you at every time. Additionally, you will find my inspirational story as a lesson for you to see that God is indeed a good God. Whatever you are going through is temporary and will soon pass away. Assuredly, God is not ignorant of it and He knows what you need for life and godliness. Yet, He wants you to learn the act of waiting on Him. God promised in His words that every one of your visions, aspirations, dreams, and desires would happen only when you learn to wait."But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."-Isaiah 40:31Waiting on God is to believe God's words completely. Whatever God says, He can perform it.
