Book excerpt: Redeeming the Rainbow is a Biblical fiction during the time of God revealing His rainbow to earth. One is put into the thoughts and actions of different characters in their journey on earth. Through the journey, each character is put to the test of defending or refusing the true meaning of redemption, signified by the rainbow. Redeeming the Rainbow is written to inspire and confirm God's true meaning of His rainbow. It symbolizes His goodness, love, and redemption in each individual human. It was never meant to be a symbol of unity among homosexual lifestyles. The LGBT movement has twisted the origianl meaning of the rainbow and used it to justify an ungodly lifestyle. God is not One to be mocked. He will claim His rainbow back to the original context it was created to be. This has been a very controverial topic throughout human history. Join the adventure of each character's struggle between truth and rebellion and be apart of God's redemptive work in your own life while reading it.

Book Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Download or read book Somewhere Over the Rainbow written by Daniel Ross Goodman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-08-24 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do we watch movies? If we read in search of more life, as Harold Bloom is fond of saying, then we watch movies, this book proposes, in search of wonder. We watch movies in search of awe-inspiring visions, transformative experiences, and moments of emotional transcendence and spiritual sublimity. We watch movies for many of the same reasons that we engage in religion: to fill our ordinary evenings and weekends with something of the extraordinary; to connect our isolated, individual selves to something that is greater than ourselves; and because we yearn for something that is ineffable but absolutely indispensable. This book, through an exploration of some of the most intriguing films of the past two decades, illustrates how movies are partners with religion in inspiring, conveying, and helping us experience what Abraham Joshua Heschel refers to as "radical amazement": the sense that our material universe and our ordinary lives are filled with more wonders than we can ever imagine, and that it takes spiritually—as well as cinematically—trained eyes to uncover these ever-present ocular gems. In addition to illustrating how films utilize religious themes and theological motifs to convey a sense of wonder, this book offers new interpretations of key films from canonical American directors such as Martin Scorsese, Terrence Malick, Richard Linklater, Wes Anderson, and the Coen brothers.

  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2013
  • ISBN : 1483648141
  • Pages : 267 pages

Download or read book A Good Way To Go written by Colin G. Jamieson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A Good Way to Go considering self-determination, mercy & self-termination." tackles the difficult subjects of living, dying, suicide and euthanasia but concentrates on the care that can be given. The book is aimed at the general public not so much to be authoritative as provide original thoughts, and comprehensive enough to provide helpful material, to stimulate discussions, and provide an overview that might facilitate wholesome changes in our society. It is said to be well written and raising new and interesting points. The plea for a more merciful society begins with pastoral help to the dying, a better understanding of suicide, acceptance of self-termination, a look at ethics, health services and the law in regard to euthanasia. It is written from a Christian Western perspective because that is what has brought us to this place of confusion and anxiety about death and dying. It is important, that we take our bicultural and multicultural future very seriously in an ever increasing secular world and it would be audacious to speak on any other culture's behalf.

Book Creation Transformation Theology

Download or read book Creation Transformation Theology written by Margit Eckholt and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The social and cultural challenges posed by the increasing threat to creation (climate change, destruction of biodiversity, etc.) are the starting point for new philosophical-ethical and theological reflections on the relationship between God, human beings and the world, as presented in this volume. God's creative impulse, which transforms anew, is at work in the actions of human beings and challenges us, in view of the threat to the "house of life" earth, to go new ways that make a common and good life possible. Creation and transformation are interrelated; an ecological theology of creation and practice of sustainability to be developed in the European context is to be embedded in the horizon of a global, liberating theology.

Book God s Rainbow

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jaroslav Durych
  • Publisher : Charles University in Prague, Karolinum Press
  • Release : 2016-09-01
  • ISBN : 8024632918
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book God s Rainbow written by Jaroslav Durych and published by Charles University in Prague, Karolinum Press. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about collective guilt, individual fate, and repentance, a tale that explores how we can come to be responsible for crimes we neither directly commit nor have the power to prevent. Set in the Czechoslovakian borderland shortly after WWII amid the sometimes violent expulsion of the region's German population, Jaroslav Durych's poetic, deeply symbolic novel is a literary touchstone for coming to terms with the Czech Republic's difficult and taboo past of state-sanctioned violence. A leading Catholic intellectual of the early twentieth century, Durych became a literary and political throwback to the prewar Czechoslovak Republic and faced censorship under the Stalinist regime of the 1950s. As such, he was a man not unfamiliar with the ramifications of a changing society in which the minority becomes the rule-making political authority, only to end up condemned as criminals. Though Durych finished writing God's Rainbow in 1955, he could not have hoped to see it published in his lifetime. Released in a stillcensored form in 1969, God's Rainbow is available here in full for the first time in English. Within the Czech arts, the novella God's Rainbow is a unique direct reflection of the expulsion from Bohemia of the German-speaking population following World War II. In it Durych brings fully to bear all the elements of his poetics - a narrative that is replete with Symbolist oneirism, is highly expressive, spiced with irony and written in a rhythmical poetic language. From the Afterword.

Book excerpt: The process of writing this book originated in a series of philosophical articles intended to be a legacy I would leave to the world. The work was quickly put together and completed in the late 1990s. In the ensuing years, I have reread it from time to time and it remains relevant. The information herein is the summation of insight that can serve to inspire pursuit of our greater human potential. There is a need for humanity to unfurl its intellectual endeavors from the prison of objective instrumentation. No real truth can be discovered when subjective being use subjective instruments under subjective conditions. It is time to explore the boundaries of the mind and thought, guided by the scientific approach. I propose a new way of understanding life, the universe and reality itself. This, I bequeath you.

Book The People and the Books 18 Classics of Jewish Literature

Download or read book The People and the Books 18 Classics of Jewish Literature written by Adam Kirsch and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An accessible introduction to the classics of Jewish literature, from the Bible to modern times, by "one of America’s finest literary critics" (Wall Street Journal). Jews have long embraced their identity as “the people of the book.” But outside of the Bible, much of the Jewish literary tradition remains little known to nonspecialist readers. The People and the Books shows how central questions and themes of our history and culture are reflected in the Jewish literary canon: the nature of God, the right way to understand the Bible, the relationship of the Jews to their Promised Land, and the challenges of living as a minority in Diaspora. Adam Kirsch explores eighteen classic texts, including the biblical books of Deuteronomy and Esther, the philosophy of Maimonides, the autobiography of the medieval businesswoman Glückel of Hameln, and the Zionist manifestoes of Theodor Herzl. From the Jews of Roman Egypt to the mystical devotees of Hasidism in Eastern Europe, The People and the Books brings the treasures of Jewish literature to life and offers new ways to think about their enduring power and influence.
