Book excerpt: This book examines in depth and at length what the Old Testament and the New Testament hold about the salvation of God's 'other peoples'. The Bible repeatedly witnesses to the universal scope of the divine love for all human beings and the chances of salvation that are available to them. Since the Israelites experienced for many centuries, both at home and abroad, the religion and culture of numerous other peoples, the Old Testament texts have much to say, both positively and negatively, about the religious prospects and destiny of these peoples. In its second half this book scrutinizes what Jesus, the evangelists, Paul and the Letter to the Hebrews indicate about God's loving designs for all human beings. At the end, the book breaks new ground by developing the universal presence of the risen Jesus (along with the Holy Spirit) and his role as universal Wisdom, and the full teaching of the Letter to the Hebrews on the possibility of faith for all people.

Book excerpt: Good Enough for God? Recent surveys indicate that the vast majority of Christians, those claiming to be born-again, believe that their salvation is at least in part dependent upon their behavior and actions. Yes, they believe Jesus died for their sin, but once they accept Him as their savior, they believe they must still meet a certain standard to be "good" enough. If that is true, then what is that standard and how do you know when you have met it? The Church has tried to answer these questions for centuries and it always results in religious and legalistic bondage. So what is the answer? It begins by asking the right question. It is not, "What must we do?" but rather, "What did Jesus do?" By understanding the Apostle Paul's revelation of what Jesus did from the book of Romans, you will never again wonder if you're meeting the standard.

Download or read book The Evangel written by Don I. Bast and published by . This book was released on 2014-04-12 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As it was so long ago, it appears to be today. The same two evils plague many of God's people: #1, they have forsaken God, the fountain of living waters, and #2, they have hewn out for themselves wells—broken wells, that contain not the waters (Jeremiah 2:13).The author identifies two main tendencies that “Christians” are drawn to as “Legalism” and “Fatalism”. He himself spent over twenty years drinking from each, never able to quench his thirst for God.At the age of 22, after a dramatic conversion, almost immediately he joined a religious cult and spent years in spiritual bondage. Attempting to establish his own righteousness, he was not able to be subject to the righteousness of God (Romans 10:3). Year after year, he remained ignorant of the fact that he was being exempted from Christ, by seeking to be justified in law. The rules, creeds and doctrines, which he followed religiously, actually caused him to fall out of the realm where grace operates (Galatians 5:4,5).Finally in his 40's he came to the realization of what it really means to be saved in grace through faith, alone. As is often the case, when the pendulum, swings too far one way, it does the same in the opposite direction. For the next 20 years he abused his freedom in Christ, simply enjoying life and wasting precious time and energy. Finally, at the age of 60, when a financial crisis hit, his whole world seemed to crumble and all his pet doctrines were tested. Painfully, over the next few years, God steadily awakened him out of his apathy and fatalist view of life and the scriptures. In this writing he shares the secret message he discovered. The message is none other than the gospel of God. It is the good news of Christ crucified, entombed and risen, according to the scriptures. The message itself is God's power for salvation to all who actually believe it (Romans 1:16). It alone can make one free to get hold of life really.

Book Kept by the Power of God

    Book Details:
  • Author : I. Howard Marshall
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2008-12-01
  • ISBN : 1725260476
  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book Kept by the Power of God written by I. Howard Marshall and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2008-12-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a very controversial subject which disturbs many people. οIf you do get disturbed it will be because of the emotion usually surrounding the subject of "eternal security." οIf you get upset it will NOT be caused by the manner in which Dr. Marshall has presented the subject. It is the contention of the author that there is biblical truth in both the Calvinistic and the Arminian position concerning this volatile subject, and that each camp should candidly recognize the value of the other's positions. John Wesley once wrote, "The truth of the Gospel is within a hairsbreadth of Calvinism." Quite a concession for the chief spokesman of Arminianism! Dr. I. Howard Marshall echoes the contention of Wesley, and then goes even beyond it. "The full Arminian position is as much open to error as is extreme Calvinism. My aim is to reach beyond the Calvinist-Arminian controversy to a position which is biblical."
