Book Encounter with God on the Road to Nowhere

Download or read book Encounter with God on the Road to Nowhere written by Ilene Johnson and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2011-03 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before I became a christian I allowed life's difficulties to dominate most of my waking thoughts. As you will see in the first 20 pages, I did not cope well with adverse situations, (lost love, lost job, little money, etc). The remainder of the book shows how Jesus can change lives when it's no longer "all about me", that's when I learn that "I can do all things through Christ who gives me the strength". This is a sort of before and after story in poetry form. Problems will still come....but God!

Download or read book I AM with You written by Karen Chisholm and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-09-10 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These poems are God's gift to me in my morning quiet time and I make of them a gift to you. I am so often amazed at the words that appear on the page as I write. I know these thoughts are not the ones I am used to living with day to day, and I worship God for His words revealed through me, a simple seeker who loves Him. In these pages you will hear God speaking to you. You will also hear me whining at God (seems like when my writing is all about me and my shortcomings, I must be whining). and there follows a section that is perhaps rhetorical, perhaps not. We can all gain from the words written here. May these simple and sometimes inconsistent thoughts bless you and draw you closer to Him.

Book The Poems of Exile

Download or read book The Poems of Exile written by Ovid and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2005-01-18 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the year A.D. 8, Emperor Augustus sentenced the elegant, brilliant, and sophisticated Roman poet Ovid to exile—permanently, as it turned out—at Tomis, modern Constantza, on the Romanian coast of the Black Sea. The real reason for the emperor's action has never come to light, and all of Ovid's subsequent efforts to secure either a reprieve or, at the very least, a transfer to a less dangerous place of exile failed. Two millennia later, the agonized, witty, vivid, nostalgic, and often slyly malicious poems he wrote at Tomis remain as fresh as the day they were written, a testament for exiles everywhere, in all ages. The two books of the Poems of Exile, the Lamentations (Tristia) and the Black Sea Letters (Epistulae ex Ponto), chronicle Ovid's impressions of Tomis—its appalling winters, bleak terrain, and sporadic raids by barbarous nomads—as well as his aching memories and ongoing appeals to his friends and his patient wife to intercede on his behalf. While pretending to have lost his old literary skills and even to be forgetting his Latin, in the Poems of Exile Ovid in fact displays all his virtuoso poetic talent, now concentrated on one objective: ending the exile. But his rhetorical message falls on obdurately deaf ears, and his appeals slowly lose hope. A superb literary artist to the end, Ovid offers an authentic, unforgettable panorama of the death-in-life he endured at Tomis.

It is a Pandora's box of emotions, situations, opportunities, and failures, all wrapped into a package we call life. Nobody is immune, but everyone has the opportunity to grow tall or wither like a flower in harsh light. It's completely up to us how we choose to respond. Finding Hope in the Darkness of Grief is a gleaning of insights from artist Diamante Lavender. For her, life has been a long, difficult road, but it has taught many poignant lessons. Her poetry collection is an exploration of the human soul, a traversing of situations that life throws at us. Diamante has always been intrigued by the ability to overcome and move on to bigger and better things. She writes to encourage hope and possibility in those who read her stories. If she can help others heal, as she has, then Diamante's work as an author and artist will have been well spent. She believes that everyone should try to leave a positive mark on the world, to make it a better place for all. Writing is the way that she is attempting to leave her markone story at a time.

Book The Complete Sermons of C H Spurgeon Book 1 Vol 1 3

Download or read book The Complete Sermons of C H Spurgeon Book 1 Vol 1 3 written by C. H. Spurgeon and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-03-22 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of Charles Haddon Spurgeon's life is nothing less than titanic. Within 2 years and 6 months of accepting the pastorate of the New Park Street Chapel as a boy of 19, the Sunday service grew from 242 to over 7,000 in attendance. What can account for the meteoric rise in popularity? Why did so many wish to hear his sermons? It is the same reason why one ought to study the sermons of Spurgeon to this day: in a famished land of moralism, he preached the bread of Jesus Christ. Containing the first three volumes of the sixty-three volumes published from the Metropolitan Tabernacle pulpit, this book holds 164 sermons, 'as plump as a partridge, and as full of meat as an egg.' David A. Attebury is currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
