Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Pencil in God’s Hands The Story of the Only American Architect to Design a Building in the Vatican By: Louis D. Astorino The Chapel of the Holy Spirit is within the Vatican walls and is built adjacent to the Domus Sanctae Marthae, a hotel for visiting clergy. In 1993, Pope John Paul II made the decision to have a hotel and chapel constructed at the Vatican in order to accommodate visiting clergy year round, but most especially during a Papa Conclave, when cardinals housed at the Vatican Museum where they slept on cots in the halls with bedpans by their side. The Pope was determined to bring the accommodations for the Conclave into the twenty-first century. With no vacant land within the Vatican walls, the Pope made the decision to have an older building directly across from St. Peter’s Cathedral demolished for the new structures. The location of the new hotel and chapel would allow the cardinals to attend Mass in sequester, then go directly through St. Peter’s Basilica and into the Sistine Chapel to vote. Today, that chapel- The Chapel of the Holy Spirit- is used for the more than sporadic Conclave. Pope Francis celebrates daily Mass there and also uses it for gatherings and audiences with groups of visiting clergy, the Swiss Guard, and the families with special needs children. As you read the story of my journey from Pittsburgh to the Vatican, pencil sketch to blueprint, construction to dedication, I hope you will share in the inspiration, awe, and strengthening of faith that I experienced during this remarkable journey. In order to put this story in context let us travel back in time.

Book excerpt: The author of God's pencil has been writing poems, stories and songs since she was a child. She found that her writing gift shouldn't be hidden, so she decided to finally try to get some of her writing published. Although God's pencil is not the first thing she has had published, it is her first book. Her work in broadcasting as a copywriter propelled her into continually writing, which she has loved to do. She has a large assortment of children's and other stories, essays and more writings that don't seem to have a category. She has written the words and music to a musical with a long title and has had some of songs played on the air. She is currently attempting to finish another book that has been in the works for some time. Her favorite thing to do is sit in front of a blank screen and see what she can think of, to fill it with words. A graduate of Mount Mercy Academy, she never had the opportunity to go to college, but took many courses and has read many, many books to hone her writing abilities.

God put us in this world to serve one another and share his love, and we educators are in the ideal profession to carry out his will. Pencils, Paper, and Prayer contains devotions that are based upon God's word and designed to explore the joys and challenges of Christian servant leadership in our classrooms. Appropriate for educators at all grade levels, the devotions are organized by the school calendar with topics that are relevant for the month in which they fall. As we commune with God through these devotions, it's the author's prayer that God will speak to us, make us laugh and cry, challenge us to reflect, revive our spirits, inspire us to action, and increase the joy we receive from serving his children.

Book The Pencil Who Did Not Know How to Draw

Download or read book The Pencil Who Did Not Know How to Draw written by Tiffany April Jonker and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-03-03 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to use our God-given gifts? Sometimes we don’t know until we receive assistance from others. The Pencil Who Did Not Know How to Draw is a whimsical tale of someone who had a special talent but didn’t know how to use it ...until he turned to others for help. Tiffany April Jonker’s story reflects her own gift for helping others. Tiffany used to love sending helium balloons into the wild blue yonder, each with a special purpose. She enclosed in every balloon a message such as, “Hi, hope you’re having a good day. God bless you.” Her hope was for everyone to know the love of God. Proceeds from this book are donated to an orphanage in Romania that Tiffany loved and visited six months before she died. Tiffany was given to us for a season to show us the true meaning of God’s love and mercy. She lives in the arms of Jesus and in her conceptual drawings and stories. Tiffany loved to make people laugh; we hope that all the children who read this book will have a chuckle or two. She must have been an angel in disguise; she was heavenly minded to the last day of her short life. David Wilkerson, author of The Cross and the Switchblade
