Book Love A Good Medicine The Saga of the Elixir of Life Introducing LoveOlogy

Download or read book Love A Good Medicine The Saga of the Elixir of Life Introducing LoveOlogy written by Dr. Siddhartha Ganguli and published by Allied Publishers. This book was released on 2024-01-15 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human emotion of love has its own spectrum like the rainbow, with its two extremes—represented by two different neuro-chemicals: ‘Dopamine’ (‘Smart Love’ & ‘Short-lived’ or ‘Short Love’) and ‘Oxytocin’ (‘Sustained Love’). In the ancient Indian ‘NatyaShastra’ of the great Bharata Muni, the essence or rasa of love is ‘Sringara’, having at its two poles ‘Kama’ (lust) and ‘Prema’ (pure love). As illustrations of the ‘Sringara’ rasa, the author has analysed a number of love song lyrics from different cultures. In this book, while the author has looked at and analysed ‘love’ from the angles of bio-medical, social, psychological and neurological sciences, one unique concept shared is that of the ‘love pie’. A very special section deals with ‘Futuristic Love’ where the author has discussed the idea of having a love-relationship with ‘AI’ (‘Artificial Intelligence’). Special contributions by the Stellar Maestro world-famous polymath musician-astrophysicist-philosopher-painter Dr Leonid Timoshenko of Russia and the top-ranking gynaecologist and obstetrician Dr Gouri Kumra from India are precious value-additions.

Book Love Sex Fleas God

Download or read book Love Sex Fleas God written by Bruce Clark and published by Penguin Random House South Africa. This book was released on 2012-07-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bruce Clark is the world’s best dad. Born and raised as a Scientologist, the religion-cult’s practices were his only reference points. At age 16, disillusionment had set in, and he was spewed out onto the streets uneducated and livid. Deep into adulthood he remained pretty much like that, until the love of a good woman grounded him. They got married and, at age 47, he was a father. His story begins there. Love, Sex, Fleas, God is Clark’s terrifically sad and funny account of life and parenthood seen through the eyes of one who knows about vulnerability. A father who would do anything to protect his children and rear them well, and a man who feels a stab every day as his wife leaves for work. Tending to infants, gently nudging their ascendency, becoming barely more than their launch pad into life, Clark’s story is What Women Want turned on its feet. This book makes you laugh and cry. It grips your heart and shows both the adult and child in you how frail and glorious a human life is.

Book The Author of Love

Download or read book The Author of Love written by Joc Anderson and published by WestBowPress. This book was released on 2011-07-08 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout history, God has been depicted variously as a judgmental tyrant, a grand conciliator, and even as a rather low-key comic, portrayed by the cigar-smoking George Burns in the movie Oh God! The question thats begging to be answered is: Who is God? This devotional evolved out of one persons desire to portray God in a truer light. In the Book of Job, God reprimanded Jobs friends for failing to speak truthfully about Him. They misrepresented His character. Job, on the other hand, understood His Maker and was, therefore, the single voice of truth in an otherwise corrupt world. Can you honestly say that you know your Creator? Can you speak truthfully about Him? This devotional will help you get to know the real God, who is neither the judgmental tyrant nor the light-weight movie character. He is, if nothing else, a God of love and compassion. At the conclusion of your devotionals, I have formulated a Love Quotient (L.Q.) test to measure the depth of your love. The questions are designed to be thought-provoking and insightful. You may also find them a bit daunting and uncomfortable. Answer each question according to your beliefs. There are no wrong or right answers. It is my hope youll find this little exercise revealing and instructive of how you love. The answers and Key is also included. Your heart is what youre all about. May you understand Gods love for you.

Book Conjoined Twins in Black and White

Download or read book Conjoined Twins in Black and White written by Linda Frost and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 2009-06-10 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conjoined twins have long been a subject of fantasy, fascination, and freak shows. In this first collection of its kind, Millie-Christine McKoy, African American twins born in 1851, and Daisy and Violet Hilton, English twins born in 1908, speak for themselves through memoirs that help us understand what it is like to live physically joined to someone else. Conjoined Twins in Black and White provides contemporary readers with the twins’ autobiographies, the first two “show histories” to be republished since their original appearance, a previously unpublished novella, and a nineteenth-century medical examination, each of which attempts to define these women and reveal the issues of race, gender, and the body prompted by the twins themselves. The McKoys, born slaves, were kidnapped and taken to Britain, where they worked as entertainers until they were reunited with their mother in an emotional chance encounter. The Hiltons, cast away by their horrified mother at birth, worked the carnival circuit as vaudeville performers until the WWII economy forced them to the burlesque stage. The hardships, along with the triumphs, experienced by these very different sister sets lend insight into our fascination with conjoined twins.

Download or read book If Only We Could See written by Gary Commins and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-10-12 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This analytical, polemical, and personal book creates a lively interaction between mysticism and activism. Looking beyond superficial links between spirituality and justice, it creates an in-depth engagement of mysticism as an inner revolution and activism as a mirroring socioeconomic transfiguration. Based on the twin premises of the mystical tradition and Social Gospel-liberation theology that those who experience God in prayer or engage in social action ought to be our primary theologians, it examines what these two traditions say about theology, to each other, and to us. The broad synthesis that results from this fascinating dialogue brings new insights into mysticism, activism, theology, and ethics, and casts a unique light on how we pray and live. If Only We Could See brings together a wealth of spiritual material from the early Desert, medieval mystics, and modern spiritual writers alongside an equally rich resource of abolitionists, anti-apartheid activists, civil rights leaders, nonviolent change agents, and peacemakers. The results yield valuable insights for a theology that challenges every personal and political status quo.

Download or read book Conjoined Twins written by Christine Quigley and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-09-17 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When two human ova fail to fully separate during pregnancy, the result is conjoined twins. The twins may be connected by ligament, bone, or just flesh, and they often share organs, but what captures most people's interest is whether the twins share sensations, thoughts and even souls. This encyclopedia presents entries on conjoined twins throughout history, the biological causes and effects of twins being born conjoined, and ethical issues such as self-support and separation surgery. It also includes entries on the modern standardized terminology used when discussing conjoined twins, the categories into which conjoined twins have been sorted, doctors past and present who have performed separation surgeries, and hospitals, such as Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, that are known for the separation of conjoined twins. This book even covers fraudulent conjoined twins and fictional ones in books written by such authors as Mark Twain, Vladimir Nabakov, and Katherine Dunn. Other entries cover relevant films, websites, and institutions.

Book The Girls

Download or read book The Girls written by Lori Lansens and published by Vintage Canada. This book was released on 2009-02-24 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Lori Lansens’ astonishing second novel, readers come to know and love two of the most remarkable characters in Canadian fiction. Rose and Ruby are twenty-nine-year-old conjoined twins. Born during a tornado to a shocked teenaged mother in the hospital at Leaford, Ontario, they are raised by the nurse who helped usher them into the world. Aunt Lovey and her husband, Uncle Stash, are middle-aged and with no children of their own. They relocate from the town to the drafty old farmhouse in the country that has been in Lovey’s family for generations. Joined to Ruby at the head, Rose’s face is pulled to one side, but she has full use of her limbs. Ruby has a beautiful face, but her body is tiny and she is unable to walk. She rests her legs on her sister’s hip, rather like a small child or a doll. In spite of their situation, the girls lead surprisingly separate lives. Rose is bookish and a baseball fan. Ruby is fond of trash TV and has a passion for local history. Rose has always wanted to be a writer, and as the novel opens, she begins to pen her autobiography. Here is how she begins: I have never looked into my sister’s eyes. I have never bathed alone. I have never stood in the grass at night and raised my arms to a beguiling moon. I’ve never used an airplane bathroom. Or worn a hat. Or been kissed like that. I’ve never driven a car. Or slept through the night. Never a private talk. Or solo walk. I’ve never climbed a tree. Or faded into a crowd. So many things I’ve never done, but oh, how I’ve been loved. And, if such things were to be, I’d live a thousand lives as me, to be loved so exponentially. Ruby, with her marvellous characteristic logic, points out that Rose’s autobiography will have to be Ruby’s as well — and how can she trust Rose to represent her story accurately? Soon, Ruby decides to chime in with chapters of her own. The novel begins with Rose, but eventually moves to Ruby’s point of view and then switches back and forth. Because the girls face in slightly different directions, neither can see what the other is writing, and they don’t tell each other either. The reader is treated to sometimes overlapping stories told in two wonderfully distinct styles. Rose is given to introspection and secrecy. Ruby’s style is "tell-all" — frank and decidedly sweet. We learn of their early years as the town "freaks" and of Lovey’s and Stash’s determination to give them as normal an upbringing as possible. But when we meet them, both Lovey and Stash are dead, the girls have moved back into town, and they’ve received some ominous news. They are on the verge of becoming the oldest surviving craniopagus (joined at the head) twins in history, but the question of whether they’ll live to celebrate their thirtieth birthday is suddenly impossible to answer. In Rose and Ruby, Lori Lansens has created two precious characters, each distinct and loveable in their very different ways, and has given them a world in Leaford that rings absolutely true. The girls are unforgettable. The Girls is nothing short of a tour de force.

Book God Doesn t Make Mistakes

    Book Details:
  • Author : Laurie Scott
  • Publisher : Laurie S Scott
  • Release : 2018-08-26
  • ISBN : 9781732327603
  • Pages : 296 pages

Download or read book God Doesn t Make Mistakes written by Laurie Scott and published by Laurie S Scott. This book was released on 2018-08-26 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do you do if you are an evangelical Christian, politically conservative AND transgender? Evangelical Christians are often attacked by the Left. People who are transgender are often attacked by the Right. It's human nature to align with those who share our world view, and dismiss those who don't. There is a struggle going on in our culture that produces more victims than champions--we all seem to agree on that. The growing divide between the political, ideological Left vs Right and Religious vs Secularist is so sharp that even attempting to bridge the gap is a perilous endeavor. But what happens to the people who are scorned by both sides? Shut out by the Left for their conservative views. Rejected by Christians for being transgender. Meet Laurie Suzanne Scott. She is, indeed, both an evangelical Christian and transgender. Raised in a devoutly Christian home, she endured the unbelievably difficult and complicated odyssey of finding her identity as a woman ...without losing her identity in Christ. A journey she barely survived. In "God Doesn't Make Mistakes: Confessions of a Transgender Christian" Laurie tells her story of growing up playing a role as unnatural to her as the body she was born with. She was a living, breathing dichotomy... and there was no one who could understand. She had no choice but to keep up the pretense and keep it a secret. She became a good son. A good Christian. And eventually even a good husband. She knew if her true identity became known, she would lose everything. E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. So, she kept her secret from everyone. But she knew there was no keeping it from God. Raised with a doctrine she believed condemned her, she decided the only way out of her constant misery was to end her life. "Who would even want to stop me?" "Wouldn't it be easier for everyone this way?" It was at that desperate crossroad she heard the voice of God simply say, "You're okay." Since that day, God has led her on a path to heal her deep wounds of rejection by family as well as other Christians, and make peace with the way she was created. "I thought God would be the first to reject me. But, in fact, He was the first to accept me." Now Laurie reaches out to Christians who are transgender, who are still struggling to believe God loves them for who they are... just as they are. It's a difficult and often emotionally exhausting ministry. Equally important are the efforts to help the Church see their Christian brothers and sisters who are transgender as simply, their Christian brothers and sisters. Nothing more, and nothing less. And finally, she shares the much needed message that God doesn't make mistakes, and it IS possible to be a conservative, a Christian, and transgender.
