Now, in the anticipated second volume, the nation's epic tale enters the modern era. As the civil war comes to an end and reconstruction begins, the Union is narrowly saved from total demise. But contempt still runs hot through the battered nation, and the future of the United States is still at stake. In This Favored Land, Medved reveals the instruments of fate that took the bedraggled country from its lowest point to her dominant role on the world stage today. Book excerpt: In 1930 Dumézil wrote an article in which he defended the Indo-European character of the Indian varnas. In 1986 he was completing his final 25 Esquisses, research proposals the aim of which was to allow his model of the 'idéologie tripartie' of Indo-European traditions to be applied to his 'disciples'. According to this model Indo-European traditions were typified by a threefold division into functions of society, the world of the gods, and the heroic traditions. These were the functions of sovereignty, power and 'fertility'. This theoretical model was elaborated by Dumézil in a large number of books and articles. Between 1930 and 1986 he broadened enormously the amount of data on which his model was based. To do so he had regularly to adapt and reformulate his model. This was not without consequences for the material which he had interpreted earlier on. In this study a detailed description is given of this process of reformulation and reinterpretation and the conclusion is that the totality of the various models does not, despite its aesthetic attraction, satisfy the criteria which should be set for scientific models.

Book Faith Under Fire

Download or read book Faith Under Fire written by Steve Rabey and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2006-10-29 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As World War II raged, millions of men and women confronted injury, destruction, separation from home and loved ones, chaos, and death. These challenges and traumas and many others forced an entire generation of everyday heroes to take stock of their lives. And in the process, many turned to God in ways they never had before. In Faith Under Fire, you'll experience scenes of astonishing bravery, moments of heart-breaking loss, and a pervasive sense of love for God, neighbor, and country that was strong enough to transcend denominational and national differences, inspiring selfless acts of courage and compassion under the worst of circumstances. From the Catholic chaplain who offered mercy among the carnage of Iwo Jima, to the Pentecostal boy who was saved from an incoming shell by the voice of God calling his name, to the young wife praying that her husband would survive life in a concentration camp, to the Tuskegee Airman who fought both totalitarianism and racism, these stories reveal the power of faith that sustained these heroes when there was nowhere else to turn. Award-winning author Steve Rabey presents more than twenty firsthand accounts of faith under pressure, many of them illustrated with war-time photos, letters, and journal entries. At a time when many who lived through these trying times are dying, their stories live on, passing on a legacy of faith and fortitude to future generations.

Book World War 2 Was an Attempt to Stop the Second Coming

Download or read book World War 2 Was an Attempt to Stop the Second Coming written by Stanley Ole Lotegeluaki and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-28 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time for the Second Coming had come and the resurrection of Israel had come in the 1940's. Satan knew that Israel had to become a nation for the Second Coming to happen. So he said no Jews, no Israel, and logically no Second Coming. So he decided to wipe out the Jews throughout the world, thus World War Two was fought. It was the sole reason for the war, it was not a German land grab, but it was fought to stop Israel from being recreated. This was written in the Bible that Satan the Assyrian would exterminate the Jews a second time like he did in Egypt the first time. This was written in Isaiah 10:24 " Therefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts, O My people that dwelleth in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt." If the Jews had looked into the Bible, the book of Isaiah they would have seen that the Lord talked about WWII. But the Lord also in the same chapter said that Satan would be destroyed by the Second Coming of Jesus Christ- Isaiah 10:25 " For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction. 26. And the Lord of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him (Satan) according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as the rod was upon the sea, (Moses rod) so shall He lift up after the manner of Egypt." ( The second Coming will be like the Red sea crossing) 27: And it shall come to pass in that day, ( the second coming) that his (Satan's) burden shall be taken away from off thy (Israel's) shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing." ( Of Jesus Christ return). The Second Coming of Jesus Christ was prophesied in Psalm 110: 1" The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at My right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." ( Jesus and Abba sit side by side in heaven and talk to each other, Jesus shall send His holy Spirit, the force, into the earth and enter into the bodies of His people, and He Jesus will rule His people in the midst of Satan's people, their enemies. Psalm 110:2 " The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies." The holy Spirit is the rod of iron talked about in Revelation. Jesus rules with a rod of iron. When Jesus returns His people will volunteer to serve Him without pay. Jesus was born in the morning of history and is 33 forever having the dew of His youth. Psalm 110:3 " Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning thou hast the dew of thy youth." Jesus Christ was King Melchizedek. Psalm 110:4 " The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek." St. Paul in Hebrews chpt 7:2,3. said Jesus was Melchizedek. At the Second Coming. Psalm 110:5" The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of His wrath. 6: He shall judge among the heathen, He shall fill the places with dead bodies, He shall wound the heads over many countries." That is proof there is no Rapture. God is going to fill the earth with dead bodies, the 1/3 of humans killed in the Gentile Passover of the Second Coming by the Angels from the Euphrates of Revelation chpt 9:15, 18. The "Taken of Mathew chpt 24." Psalm 110:7 God is going to drink up the political barrier the brook, against Jesus and He is going to lift up the head- Jesus Christ. Psalm 110:7 " He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall He lift up the head." So WWII was an attempt by Satan to stop the Second Coming of Jesus Christ by killing all the Jews. The existence of Israel is proof that today 2020 AD. is the end times.

Book excerpt: "Little children, it is the last hour..." So wrote the beloved apostle John. Two thousand years later we are living in the final moments of history. God's people are beginning to lift up their heads, knowing their redemption draws near. Where are we in the prophetic timetable? What momentous event of Bible prophecy will we witness next? Will America be judged before the rapture of the church? Reaping the Whirlwind begins with a primer on the nature of judgment and wrath. Through Jesus' eyes we see God as neither a harmless Teddy bear nor a vengeful tyrant, but as Agape, the Consuming Fire. We can then fearlessly examine the ancient prophesies about America. We can lay aside the popular fables that have lulled us to sleep. By casting aside false comfort, we are free to receive God's comfort, which stirs us up to love and good works. Reaping the Whirlwind reveals the heart of God for His people living in the midst of Babylon America. It is written for the mature Christian, the new believer and the seeking unbeliever. Let those who have ears to hear, hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. A.P. Watchman A.P. Watchman has been walking with the Lord for thirty years, loving His church, and ministering in the capacity of prophet, teacher and evangelist. He currently resides in Sacramento, California.

Book Challenging the Spirit of Modernity

Download or read book Challenging the Spirit of Modernity written by Harry Van Dyke and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2019-10-02 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's word illumines the darkness of society. Dutch politician and historian Groen van Prinsterer's Unbelief and Revolution is a foundational work addressing the inherent tension between the church and secular society. Writing at the onset of modernity in Western culture, Groen saw with amazing clarity the dire implications of abandoning God's created order for human life in society. Groen's work served as an inspiration for many contemporary theologians, and he had a profound impact on Abraham Kuyper's famous public theology. In Challenging the Spirit of Modernity, Harry Van Dyke places this seminal work into historical context, revealing how this vital contribution still speaks into the fractured relationship between religion and society. A deeper understanding of the roots of modern secularism and Groen's strong, faithful response to it gives us a better grasp of the same conflict today.

Book Serving God and Country

Download or read book Serving God and Country written by Lyle W. Dorsett and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In World War II, more than twelve thousand Protestant ministers, Catholic priests, and Jewish rabbis joined the Chaplain Corps. They were men of faith under fire. And they would charge straight into Hell to save the soul of a single soldier… Representing America’s three major religious traditions, volunteers from across the country enlisted as noncombatant commissioned officers to provide spiritual strength and guidance for those fighting men who never knew if they were going to survive. Armed only with Bibles, Torahs, and the tools of their holy trade, these men of God went wherever the troops went. They prayed over men about to go into combat on land, at sea, and in the air. And, most important and difficult of all, they guided fallen fighting men of every faith as they breathed their last, and gave up their lives in the fight against tyranny. These are the personal stories of some of the bravest and most selfless men who served with the armed forces. Many lost their lives or suffered debilitating wounds as they strived to keep the military personnel spiritually awake, morally fit—and prepared to make the journey from this world to the next without fear or despair, and with the trust of the Almighty in their hearts. Book Our Gods Wear Spandex

Download or read book Our Gods Wear Spandex written by Chris Knowles and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2007-11-30 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Was Superman's arch nemesis Lex Luthor based on Aleister Crowley? Can Captain Marvel be linked to the Sun gods on antiquity? In Our Gods Wear Spandex, Christopher Knowles answers these questions and brings to light many other intriguing links between superheroes and the enchanted world of estoerica. Occult students and comic-book fans alike will discover countless fascinating connections, from little known facts such as that DC Comics editor Julius Schwartz started his career as H.P. Lovecraft's agent, to the tantalizingly extensive influence of Madame Blavatsky's Theosophy on the birth of comics, to the mystic roots of Superman. The book also traces the rise of the comic superheroes and how they relate to several cultural trends in the late 19th century, specifically the occult explosion in Western Europe and America. Knowles reveals the four basic superhero archetypes--the Messiah, the Golem, the Amazon, and the Brotherhood--and shows how the occult Bohemian underground of the early 20th century provided the inspiration for the modern comic book hero. With the popularity of occult comics writers like Invisibles creator Grant Morrison and V for Vendetta creator Alan Moore, the vast ComiCon audience is poised for someone to seriously introduce them to the esoteric mysteries. Chris Knowles is doing just that in this epic book. Chapters include Ancient of Days, Ascended Masters, God and Gangsters, Mad Scientists and Modern Sorcerers, and many more. From the ghettos of Prague to the halls of Valhalla to the Fortress of Solitude and the aisles of BEA and ComiCon, this is the first book to show the inextricable link between superheroes and the enchanted world of esoterica. * Chris Knowles is associate editor and columnist for the five-time Eisner Award-winning Comic Book Artist magazine, as well as a pop culture writer for UK magazine Classic Rock. * Knowles worked with Robert Smigel on The X Presidents graphic novel, based on the popular Saturday Night Live cartoon, and has created designs and artwork for many of the world's top superheroes and fantasy characters. * Features the art of Joe Linsner, creator of the legendary Dawn series, and more recently a collaborator with comics maestro Stan Lee.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Witness in Times of War and Peace is a searing memoir that describes the struggles a Mennonite pastor experiences during the Second World War. Gerhard Hein is a practicing Mennonite when he is called up for duty, and he must reconcile his pacifist beliefs with the obligation to serve in Germany’s Wehrmacht. He displays courage in a terrifying and uncertain time by voicing his concerns about the National Socialistic ideology in both words and deeds, standing up for his beliefs by pointing to the One who can bring real peace. His story shows that in the darkness of war, rays of genuine love, care, and compassion can shine through.
