Book excerpt: Jesus Christ saves radically depraved men, women, and children from their sins. However, to understand, believe, and love the good news about the crucified and resurrected Savior, we must first understand our condition. Thus, we offer this issue of the Free Grace Broadcaster: Radical Depravity. Arthur Pink introduces us to this weighty subject by asking the question, “Is man a totally and thoroughly depraved creature by nature?” Thomas Reade then tells us about the deadly consequences and bitter fruits of Adam’s fall: in Adam all die. We then consider Joel Beeke’s helpful survey of the doctrine of human depravity. A second article by Thomas Reade leads us to a painful truth: the heart of man is evil. But he does not leave us there: he takes us to the blessed Son of God for deliverance. John Owen describes with great clarity the depraved and corrupted state of man’s mind and teaches us that the only remedy for this great darkness is the new birth: “You must be born again.” Loraine Boettner explains the extent and effects of original sin, which results in human inability in the matters of salvation. What is our true spiritual condition outside of Christ? Charles Spurgeon declares that we are legally, spiritually, and eternally dead. Nevertheless, he also tells us that we can be legally, spiritually, eternally alive by faith in Jesus Christ the Son! We then hear from John Flavel that in mercy, grace, and love, God draws sinners to Jesus Christ, gradually, suitably, powerfully, effectually, and finally. That is indeed good news! J. C. Ryle brings our subject to a close by asking a penetrating question: “Are you dead or alive?” Each of us, dear readers, must answer that question.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's Faithfulness concerns a young woman who had been raised in an ungodly home by a father who filled her mind with superstition and disbelief in an Almighty God. Belief in God or Jesus Christ was for people who needed a church to hold them up when life became impossible for them to stand on their own. The idea of God or Jesus Christ being anything other than a myth was completely irrational. Her father's hateful attitude and disbelief made their home a hell on earth-a life of turmoil and distress, keeping her from ever having happy thoughts or believing she could find a life of happiness. Cassandra "Cassie" Ann Rollins left the home of an overbearing, abusive father to find true love with James Adam Henderson, a man whom she believed would love her unconditionally forever. In the years that followed, she would realize, apart from God's unconditional love, there is no promise of true love or happiness in life. No person can tell you how they will act in the future without God. James, Cassie, and their three girls could not have been happier for the first few years of their marriage, and then overnight, their world collapsed.

Book excerpt: The author of Desiring God reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Includes a study guide for individual and small-group use. Isn’t it true—we really don’t know someone until we understand what makes that person happy? And so it is with God! What does bring delight to the happiest Being in the universe? John Piper writes, that it’s only when we know what makes God glad that we’ll know the greatness of His glory. Therefore, we must comprehend “the pleasures of God.” Unlike so much of what is written today, this is not a book about us. It is about the One we were made for—God Himself. In this theological masterpiece—chosen by World Magazine as one of the 20th Century’s top 100 books, John Piper reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Then we will be able to drink deeply—and satisfyingly—from the only well that offers living water. What followers of Jesus need now, more than anything else, is to know and love—behold and embrace—the great, glorious, sovereign, happy God of the Bible. “This is a unique and precious book that everybody should read more than once.” —J.I. Book The Book of Job God s Faithfulness in Troubled Times

Download or read book The Book of Job God s Faithfulness in Troubled Times written by Dr. Jim Halla and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2022-04-05 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Job, the book and the man, is well-known even in the public arena. However, the main character of the book is the Triune God. Moreover, some have suggested that the book of Job focuses on the larger problem of evil in a good God’s world. By definition that would include the concept of victimhood. However, Dr. Jim Halla thinks that approach misses major issues in the book. The Book of Job: God’s Faithfulness in Troubled Times presents Dr. Halla’s understanding of the book under four major headings: God’s sovereignty, suffering, suspicion, and success. Job began well but faltered. He considered himself alone, deafening silence from God, and his relationship with God in shambles. God took him to the zoo and the sea and Job learned well: he repented and God placed him in the position of intercessor for his friends. He functioned as a type of Christ but he was not Christ. He came to embrace those two truths. The book of Job is for all believers in all seasons no matter their spiritual maturity. As you read The Book of Job: God’s Faithfulness in Troubled Times, see if you catch a glimpse of Job’s radical reversal.

Book God S Faithfulness a Journey in Trusting

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a true story about the journey in the life of a little girl who grew up on a logging camp located in a very remote area of Western Canada. Little Esther was a fun-loving and adventurous child, and the forest was her playground. When Esther was nine years old, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. After that, the desire of her heart was to serve the Lord at home and in foreign countries. After graduating from Bible school, she got married, and she and her husband prepared for missionary service. Then some tragic events occurred. Esthers father was murdered. Then, after serving in Africa, another tragedy occurred, and Esther was left as a single mother with two children to raise, little money, and large debts. She worked long hours but hardly made enough to pay her bills and feed her family. During this time, Esther felt it was impossible for her to get out of the desperate situation she was living in and to be used of God again in missions. Then He blessed her financially and used her in His service, and thousands of people were touched for Jesus Christ. God also sent in a few million dollars to support the ministries she was involved in.

Book Hope for the Journey Reflections of God s Faithfulness

Download or read book Hope for the Journey Reflections of God s Faithfulness written by Richard Parrish MDiv and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-08-27 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even believers sometimes have doubts. Many followers have issues of faith at some point in their spiritual journeys. Some are content to ignore those questions, and eventually, their faith may wane. Even those who don't leave their churches do not have the spiritual lives they could have. Others, however, look to discover the reasons behind their doubts or other concerns and become stronger in their faith. In Hope for the Journey: Reflections of God's Faithfulness, author Richard Parrish MDiv helps believers work through their faith issues. Sometimes that requires a major overhaul of who we believe God to be. Through this devotional, Parrish shows us how to adopt a different view of the Deity and become closer to God, to know God, and not just in the religious sense. Questions for reflection help you think deeply about and internalize what you've read.

Book God s Faithfulness Love and Providential Care

Download or read book God s Faithfulness Love and Providential Care written by Vivian Sanderson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-02-09 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In writing this account, I hope to encourage those "walking through the valley of the shadow of death." Although this psalm is usually linked with physical death, I have come to realize there are many types of "death" that are often discounted or ignored. The feelings in any event are real, and the grieving process is just that--a process that must be lived day by day. The time involved is, of course, an individual thing, and there can be no set limits. One aspect of my job duties was to familiarize employees or family members about death benefits. My experiences with survivors taught me that as varied and different as people are in their own situation so is their course of healing. I have also learned that the evidence of God's faithfulness and love abound even when walking through the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23). As I learned to enter His rest and follow His leading the reality of His comforting Presence was magnified and became more apparent. And just as the Hebrew children learned to recognize the reality His presence in the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21) I learned to recognize His Presence in the grace and provision He made possible along the way. I just had to be willing to see and look to Him in hope. Therefore, the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed [happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him, [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]! (Isaiah 30:18)
