He said, “Remember them niggas hit the big Homie five times, and he didn’t die.” Teflon didn’t respond. He seen the mess those hollow tips had made. He wasn’t even going to attempt to deceive himself with futile thinking. Teflon had been in a trance and didn’t even notice how bold C-Loc was acting. Before he knew it, they were passing by the crime scene that not too long ago, he had sped away from. Sure enough there was still a lot of police activity, but out of everything, it was the yellow tape that made Teflon burst into tears of regret. C-Loc didn’t know what to say.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demon warrior puppets, sword-wielding Taoist priests, spirit mediums lacerating their bodies with spikes and blades—these are among the most dramatic images in Chinese religion. Usually linked to the propitiation of plague gods and the worship of popular military deities, such ritual practices have an obvious but previously unexamined kinship with the traditional Chinese martial arts. The long and durable history of martial arts iconography and ritual in Chinese religion suggests something far deeper than mere historical coincidence. Avron Boretz argues that martial arts gestures and movements are so deeply embedded in the ritual repertoire in part because they iconify masculine qualities of violence, aggressivity, and physical prowess, the implicit core of Chinese patriliny and patriarchy. At the same time, for actors and audience alike, martial arts gestures evoke the mythos of the jianghu, a shadowy, often violent realm of vagabonds, outlaws, and masters of martial and magic arts. Through the direct bodily practice of martial arts movement and creative rendering of jianghu narratives, martial ritual practitioners are able to identify and represent themselves, however briefly and incompletely, as men of prowess, a reward otherwise denied those confined to the lower limits of this deeply patriarchal society. Based on fieldwork in China and Taiwan spanning nearly two decades, Gods, Ghosts, and Gangsters offers a thorough and original account of violent ritual and ritual violence in Chinese religion and society. Close-up, sensitive portrayals and the voices of ritual actors themselves—mostly working-class men, many of them members of sworn brotherhoods and gangs—convincingly link martial ritual practice to the lives and desires of men on the margins of Chinese society. This work is a significant contribution to the study of Chinese ritual and religion, the history and sociology of Chinese underworld, the history and anthropology of the martial arts, and the anthropology of masculinity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an enlightening, representative account of how rappers talk about God in their lyrics—and why a sense of religion plays an intrinsic role within hip hop culture. Why is the battle between good and evil a recurring theme in rap lyrics? What role does the devil play in hip hop? What exactly does it mean when rappers wear a diamond-encrusted "Jesus" around their necks? Why do rappers acknowledge God during award shows and frequently include prayers in their albums? Rap and Religion: Understanding the Gangsta's God tackles a sensitive and controversial topic: the juxtaposition—and seeming hypocrisy—of references to God within hip hop culture and rap music. This book provides a focused examination of the intersection of God and religion with hip hop and rap music. Author Ebony A. Utley, PhD, references selected rap lyrics and videos that span three decades of mainstream hip hop culture in America, representing the East Coast, the West Coast, and the South in order to account for how and why rappers talk about God. Utley also describes the complex urban environments that birthed rap music and sources interviews, award acceptance speeches, magazine and website content, and liner notes to further explain how God became entrenched in hip hop.

Book The Ministry of the Word Vol 23 No 06

Download or read book The Ministry of the Word Vol 23 No 06 written by Various Authors and published by Living Stream Ministry. This book was released on 2019-06-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue of The Ministry of the Word contains the eight messages given during the international training for elders and responsible ones held in Anaheim, California, on April 5 through 7, 2019. The general subject of this series of messages is "The Development of the Kingdom of God in the Christian Life and the Church Life." The kingdom of God is a wonderful person--the Lord Jesus Christ, who as the Sower sowed the seed of the kingdom into the soil of our heart. This kingdom seed, which is Christ Himself as both the King and the kingdom through the word, needs to grow and develop in our inner being to become God's ruling realm. The kingdom is the realm of life for the divine life to move, rule, and govern so that life may accomplish its purpose. The kingdom that is developing is not only divine life but also Christ Himself as a wonderful person expanding within us. Before there can be the manifestation of the kingdom with the Lord's coming, there must be the reality of the kingdom inwardly and the practicality of the kingdom in the Christian life and the church life. In our Christian life, we live the kingdom life by living a hidden life. Because the kingdom has been sown as a seed into us, the development and manifestation of the kingdom must come from the hidden growth of the roots within the soil. The kingdom life is a life in the depths, a life that can "take root downward and bear fruit upward" (Isa. 37:31). The principle of the kingdom people is that they live a hidden life, not performing their righteous deeds before men. Messages 1 and 2 emphasize the Christian life, particularly the inward reality of the kingdom that is developing and the matter of learning to have a life hidden in God so that the kingdom life may deepen in us. The kingdom is the reality of the church, and the church is the practical expression and representation of the kingdom. Apart from the kingdom life, we cannot live the church life. The genuine church is the kingdom of God in this age. Today the believers live the kingdom life in the church. Messages 3 through 6 focus on various aspects of the kingdom and the church. Message 3 directly concerns the kingdom and the church. Message 4 is on relationships in the kingdom. In particular, it is on the seriousness of living a forgiving life so that we will have no issues before the Son of Man that will cost us the kingdom reward. In Message 5 we see the need for shutting up the gates of Hades through the exercise of the keys of denying the self, taking up the cross, and losing the soul-life. Message 6 focuses on the responsibility of the church to engage in spiritual warfare, mainly through prayer, because of the conf lict between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. The responsibility of the church is to bring the kingdom of God to the earth in glorious manifestation. Message 7 is concerned with our being watchful in life and faithful in service. For life, we need oil, the Spirit of God, even His filling, that we may be enabled to live the virgin life for the Lord's testimony. For service, for work, we need the talent, the spiritual gift, that we may be equipped as a good slave to accomplish what the Lord intends to accomplish. Message 8 concludes this series by releasing a burden on proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom throughout the entire inhabited earth and discipling the nations. The gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole inhabited earth for a testimony to all the nations before the end of this age. We have the authority, commission, and position of our resurrected Christ to disciple the nations for the spread and development of the kingdom of God. The Announcements section at the end of this issue contains a list of upcoming conferences and trainings hosted by Living Stream Ministry and a website link for information related to similar events in Europe.

Book excerpt: From Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson, an insider's account of the deals and the dodges inside the music and entertainment business over the last 30 years As the son of the legendary showbiz lawyer Marty Machat, Steven Machat grew up among such names as Frank Sinatra, James Brown, Frankie Valli, and Sam Cooke. Following in his father's footsteps, by the time he was in his late 20s he was proud to see his name alongside his father's on the brass plaque outside their Broadway offices. But there was a price--Steven discovered from a young age that the glitter and the glamour too often disguises a crude and cruel reality, and that those who are publicly perceived as gods can just as easily be seen as gangsters. Book Esther God s Spiritual Gangster

Download or read book Esther God s Spiritual Gangster written by Antoinette Barnwell and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-07-29 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our current world is chaotic. Violence, racism, immorality, identity confusion, self entitlement, and selfishness are more prevalent than ever before. Our Spiritual enemy, Satan, is camouflaging himself through demonic spirits of addiction, pornography, depression and suicide, trying to deceive and destroy God’s people and to hinder the Kingdom of God from progressing forward. The current condition of our world, should cause a Holy indignation to rise up on the inside of Christians. Provoking a fervent and passionate zeal, that brings change and lets Satan know that he can’t have our family, our marriage or our God given dreams. Christians can no longer sit on the sidelines of life, being politically correct, agreeing with the twisted morals, values and negative mindset of our society, that’s being proclaimed as truth. Queen Esther accepted and passionately pursued God’s purpose for her life. She held onto it like a piece of steak between the teeth of a bull dog’s mouth and didn’t let it go, until she completed it. It’s time for Christians to “put up or shut up!” We must stop chasing the idols and the things of this world that have no eternal significance and when death calls our name, it will not matter. Christians must become “Spiritual Gangsters” in the sense of pledging an allegiance and commitment to the covenant and personal relationship we have with God, through his Son, Jesus Christ. When Christians walk in the Spiritual authority Jesus Christ gave us, using our spiritual weapons of prayer, fasting, praise and intercession, Satan and his kingdom will be destroyed. Matthew 11:12, (KJV), States, And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Starting from tracing real moments from his childhood and pre-adolescence, he adds fictional facts and events resulting from his psychotic episodes, of which he has been a victim for much of his life. In the book, always on the ridge between reality and hallucination, there is a series of characters and events that, although at first glance may seem real, lead us into the inner world of the main character Kurt Spurr, destined to be the chosen one of a modern, and almost despicable and reprehensible god. His world is populated by bullies, gangs and friendly characters, evil people amongst how the world really works through god owning the world and calling the shots and really having powers. Kurt is trying to be the chosen one but he has to prove god and his family that he is worth being the chosen one to rule the galaxy. In order to become part of the contract world, Kurt suffers serious bullying from his entire school but let to know is years to come it is only going to get worse. He struggles on a daily basis as he has no one really to turn to with his problems, but he doesn’t know he is in a story and he has to complete it for him to be the most powerful person that has ever lived. People are so jealous of Kurt because he is god’s grandson and can’t understand why he can’t die, as so many people have tried to kill him but don’t know what is in store for the rest of the world. In fact, he seems like a normal kid and the world doesn’t really believe Kurt will become that powerful as he was when he had powers. But the world has no clue that is going to happen, besides god and Curtis Jackson for the meantime, but this story is the craziest story that has ever happened. To prove his potential and succeed in obtaining the coveted title of chosen one, creating his own family that will run the world. Kurt David Spurr is an Australian-born author who has always lived in the Sutherland shire Cronulla area, but who attended high school at Waverly College. As a child, he was part of the rugby union and played for various teams. Since primary school, he has always had a strong predilection for the study of the English language, and in high school he had become one of the best in his school. He studied very hard with teachers not believing the work that he was coming up with, as he was naturally smarter than the most teachers at such a young age. All this has led him to try and improve his language skills even more, which he continues to do now, as he writes poetry and stories for fun, to save himself from partying too much. He tried rapping and many other sports and hobbies that have helped him along his journey, trying to find himself. He suffered from psychotic episodes, and this is basically the theme of his first novel, The chosen one. He came up with the novel through a series of events that happened in his life and that, because of his psychotic episodes, made him believe he was the main character of the novel. He has a passion for construction and is currently working in the construction industry as a builder that has finished carpentry trade, almost finished construction management degree and has some subjects left for his builder license. He woke up very early in the morning to write this book, and then went to work. He loves writing so much, it is a passion of mind and he has many stories in his mind that hopefully he can get out there. He’s always grown up on the beach and loves to party. He has a very good family and friends that have stood by his side through very hard times.

It digs deep into the traditional life style of the Africans of old, their beliefs, their leadership, their courage, their culture, their wars, their defeat and their victories long before the emergence of the white man on the soil of Africa. As a talented writer of rich resource and superior creativity, armed with in-depth knowledge of different cultures and traditions in Africa, the Author throws light on the rich cultural heritage of the people of Africa when civilization was yet unknown to the people. The book reminds the readers that the Africans of old kept their pride and still enjoyed their own lives. They celebrated victories when wars were won, enjoyed their New yam festivals and villages engaged themselves in seasonal wrestling contest etc; Early morning during harmattan season, they gathered firewood and made fire inside their small huts to hit up their bodies from the chilling cold of the harmattan. That was the Africa of old we will always remember. In Africa today, the story have changed. The people now enjoy civilized cultures made possible by the influence of the white man through his scientific and technological process. Yet there are some uncivilized places in Africa whose people haven’t tested or felt the impact of civilization. These people still maintain their ancient traditions and culture. In everything, we believe that days when people paraded barefooted in Africa to the swarmp to tap palm wine and fetch firewood from there farms are almost fading away. The huts are now gradually been replaced with houses built of blocks and beautiful roofs. Thanks to modern civilization. Donkeys and camels are no longer used for carrying heavy loads for merchants. They are now been replaced by heavy trucks and lorries. African traditional methods of healing are now been substituted by hospitals. In all these, I will always love and remember Africa, the home of my birth and must respect her cultures and traditions as an AFRICAN AUTHOR.

Book excerpt: Who looks outside dreams, who looks inside awakes. (Jung) Gods Gangsters Is a short story of 13,500 words that takes place over a three day period, in the life of a sixteen year old African American drug dealer and gang member, Walter Butz. Walter was raised by very religious parents, who believe in a literal translation of the Bible. This narrow religious view completely turns him off to any belief in God. After the death of his father, a clergyman, he falls in with his brother-in-law, a gang leader and drug dealer in Brooklyn. It is after being shot by rival gang members; the young Walter is wounded, and begins a Journey or realization that there is a deeper side to being human, a spiritual side. With the help of a few guldes along the way, he is able to alter his perception of reality, and in this truer light, change his life. Imagination is more important than knowledge, is a quote from Albert Einstein. Considered a cerebrell, logical, calculating, conscous intellect, there was also another side to his thinking. The feeling, instinctive, intuitive subconscious, the source of a higher consciousness. This is a story of rediscovery of a greater self; we are all part of.
