Book excerpt: The nation of Israel has played a significant part in the history of the world as God's chosen nation. As a response to the growing anti-Semitic climate in today's culture, this informative text sheds light on Israel's vast historical and religious importance. The Bible makes very specific claims for the promises God made to the nation of Israel concerning its future. Presenting an all-inclusive view of relevant scripture, the book offers the biblical facts behind Israel's history and future. Written to perform as a textbook, study aide, or outline for sermons, God's Alarm Clock discusses the seminal topics surrounding Israel: A breakdown of the content in the Abrahamic Covenant in its two parts The Davidic Covenant concerning King David's direct bloodline to the Messiah Israel's role among the nations of the world The formation of the twelve tribes of Israel The controversy of the Jews' role as God's chosen people and the varying ideologies regarding it Jesus's death, resurrection, and mission, as well as His relationship to Israel God's plan for humankind, as nations and individuals The book of Revelations and Jesus's second coming This comprehensive book will explain it all and build a foundational knowledge of Israel that every Christian should have under their belt. Mark T. Frost was born and raised on the Cape Flats in Cape Town South Africa. At the age of twenty-three and in pursuit of the Truth he started to read the Bible, a search that resulted in a meeting with the Lord of the scriptures Himself, Jesus Christ. A fervent student of the Bible with several years of Bible studies behind him, the author and a colleague went to Mozambique in 1989 to start training church leaders in that war torn country. Very early in his missionary calling Mark had a vision for the unification of the Church, the worldwide body of Christ, the biggest living organism in the universe. In cooperation with several international Christian organisations having as their main thrust leadership training within the church, the work steadily grew to include all denominations, both mainstream and independent, in the capital city Maputo. By the time Mark left Mozambique ten years later the work had expanded and covered most of the major districts in southern Mozambique. Today the author resides in Sweden with His family."

Book Free as Gods

  • Pages : 298 pages

Download or read book Free as Gods written by Charles A. Riley, II and published by University Press of New England. This book was released on 2017-06-06 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among many art, music and literature lovers, particularly devotees of modernism, the expatriate community in France during the Jazz Age represents a remarkable convergence of genius in one place and period - one of the most glorious in history. Drawn by the presence of such avant-garde figures as Joyce and Picasso, artists and writers fled the Prohibition in the United States and revolution in Russia to head for the free-wheeling scene in Paris, where they made contact with rivals, collaborators, and a sophisticated audience of collectors and patrons. The outpouring of boundary-pushing novels, paintings, ballets, music, and design was so profuse that it belies the brevity of the era (1918-1929). Drawing on unpublished albums, drawings, paintings, and manuscripts, Charles A. Riley offers a fresh examination of both canonic and overlooked writers and artists and their works, by revealing them in conversation with one another. He illuminates social interconnections and artistic collaborations among the most famous - Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Gershwin, Diaghilev, and Picasso - and goes a step further, setting their work alongside that of African Americans such as Sidney Bechet, Archibald Motley Jr., and Langston Hughes, and women such as Gertrude Stein and Nancy Cunard. Riley's biographical and interpretive celebration of the many masterpieces of this remarkable group shows how the creative community of postwar Paris supported astounding experiments in content and form that still resonate today.

Book The Origin of the Gods

Download or read book The Origin of the Gods written by Richard S. Caldwell and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1993-03-11 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This innovative study posits that myths in general, and Greek theogonic myth in particular, have a latent meaning that is responsible both for the emotional energy inherent in myths, and for the special attraction they have even to those who no longer believe in their literal meaning. Caldwell describes, in clear and comprehensible language, aspects of psychoanalytic theory relevant to the understanding of Greek myth, implementing a psychoanalytic methodology to interpret the Greek myth of origin and succession, particularly as stated in Hesiod's Theogony. In reassessing this work, which tells the story of the world's beginning from unbounded Chaos to the defeat of the Titans, Caldwell addresses several unexplained problems-- why does the world begin with the spontaneous emergence of four uncaused entities, and why in this particular order? Why does Ouranos prevent his children from being born by confining them in their mother's body? Why is Ouranos castrated by his son, and why is Aphrodite born from the severed genitals? Why is it always the youngest son who overthrows his father, the sky-god, and what is the logic of the steps taken by Zeus to prevent the same thing happening to him? Presenting a new definition and analyses of the psychological functions in myth, this new study should appeal to a wide range of classicists, teachers and students of mythology, and those interested in the application of psychoanalytic methods to literature.

Book The Nation of Israel

Download or read book The Nation of Israel written by Mark Frost and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mark Frost was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1960 and grew up there during the apartheid era. This oppressive political system was unarguably a contributing factor leading to him getting involved in the teenage gangsterism which was so rife in the Cape. At twenty-three years of age a violent and destructive lifestyle had led to a face-to-face confrontation with death. In this fateful confrontation the scripture "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" became a saving reality. After a dramatic salvation experience that led to him doing several years of Bible-correspondence courses and a year at Mission school through the American mission organization Fill the Gap Ministries, Mark ended up as a missionary Bible teacher in Mozambique. There he focused on leadership training within the body of Christ. For several years he helped co-ordinate leadership seminars in this East-African nation for the American organization World Map (World Missionary Assistance Plan) founded by Ralph Mahoney, as well as for other international mission organisations. Today the author is married and lives in Sweden together with his wife and two children.

Book excerpt: How can YOU help bring hope to our nation? At a time when it seems that our nation is toppling over—morally, culturally, economically, and politically—you may be asking this question: Is there any hope for America? Dr. Tony Evans says YES. In America: Turning a Nation to God, Dr. Evans helps Christians understand that at the core, America's problems are spiritual. And, God and His rule are America's only hope. As His people, God is calling us to return to Him in humility and repentance, to submit to His rule and authority. Only as we commit to doing so, individually and collectively, will we realize that hope. We hold within the collective body of Christ not only the power but also the capacity to put our country back on the path of ascendancy. This straight-forward teaching, when embraced by believers in our nation, will usher in the greatest revival in American history.
