Book Divine Scripture in Human Understanding

Download or read book Divine Scripture in Human Understanding written by Joseph K. Gordon and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2019-03-15 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In six closely-reasoned chapters, Joseph Gordon presents a detailed account of a Christian doctrine of Scripture in the fullest context of systematic theology. Divine Scripture in Human Understanding addresses the confusing plurality of contemporary approaches to Christian Scripture—both within and outside the academy—by articulating a traditionally grounded, constructive systematic theology of Christian Scripture. Utilizing primarily the methodological resources of Bernard Lonergan and traditional Christian doctrines of Scripture recovered by Henri de Lubac, it draws upon achievements in historical-critical study of Scripture, studies of the material history of Christian Scripture, reflection on philosophical hermeneutics and philosophical and theological anthropology, and other resources to articulate a unified but open horizon for understanding Christian Scripture today. Following an overview of the contemporary situation of Christian Scripture, Joseph Gordon identifies intellectual precedents for the work in the writings of Irenaeus, Origen, and Augustine, who all locate Scripture in the economic work of the God to whom it bears witness by interpreting it through the Rule of Faith. Subsequent chapters draw on Scripture itself; classical sources such as Irenaeus, Origen, Augustine, and Aquinas; the fruit of recent studies on the history of Scripture; and the work of recent scholars and theologians to provide a contemporary Christian articulation of the divine and human locations of Christian Scripture and the material history and intelligibility and purpose of Scripture in those locations. The resulting constructive position can serve as a heuristic for affirming the achievements of traditional, historical-critical, and contextual readings of Scripture and provides a basis for addressing issues relatively underemphasized by those respective approaches.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You are no accident. Your presence on this earth is not a mistake. Neither is it insignificant. On the contrary, you are wanted here—and needed! You are a creation of God with a unique purpose. Many people “do” things to try to gain acceptance by others, so that they can “be” someone. They become slaves to public opinion and never really know who they were meant to be. When we know that we are God’s beloved children, chosen from the foundation of the world, and discover who He designed us to be, we will think and act from that perspective. Everything else will develop from our identity and existence in Him. That identity goes beyond even our personal purpose to God’s eternal plans for the world and our exciting role in them. God created all human beings to have dominion over the earth. And He has assigned each of us a portion of “territory” where we can exercise the measure of our dominion on earth. This dominion is based on the faith, anointing, and gifts He has given us. Our words and actions are most effective when we are in the territory God has assigned to us and are seeking first His kingdom. This “territorial” power is not merely symbolic. It is a reality in which we must live. The territory in which we are to be fruitful is not random or general but specific. In Created for Purpose, you will discover God’s plan for your life as a loved and valuable member of His creation, what it means to be called by God, and how to know and live in your purpose throughout your life. You are not an accident. You are present on this earth for a significant reason. Find out who you were meant to be!

In this insightful book, the author delves into the depths of Christian faith, drawing upon scripture, personal testimonies, and theological insights to unravel the mysteries of divine calling and purpose. The journey begins with an honest examination of the human experience, acknowledging the pains and uncertainties that often accompany our paths. Through the lens of biblical narratives and the lives of exemplary figures such as Moses, David, and Paul, readers are invited to witness the transformative power of God's calling. By weaving together these stories of obedience, struggle, and redemption, the author illuminates the universal truth that God's invitation to purpose is not confined to the pages of history but extends to each individual life. Central to the book's message is the concept of discerning God's voice amidst the noise of the world-a task that requires humility, prayer, and a listening heart. Through reflective exercises and practical guidance, readers are encouraged to cultivate a deeper intimacy with God, learning to recognize His whispers in the midst of life's chaos. As the journey unfolds, readers are challenged to confront their doubts and insecurities, recognizing them as opportunities for growth and surrender. Book A BLUEPRINT of the DIVINE PLAN

Download or read book A BLUEPRINT of the DIVINE PLAN written by Donald Thomas and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why I wrote this book. I discovered there are three primary core aspects or attributes of our religions that are right in our face, that we are mostly conscience about and certainly aware of but which are constantly overshadowed in our day to day lives because we have been made to overlooked the significance of these aspects. Only one of these attributes is preached on a regular basis in our established places of worship; the other on occasion and the third, hardly at all. I have highlighted these three aspects and have tried to explain why they are signifi cant. These three aspects are central to God’s master plan for mankind. I wrote this book to highlight that fact. The idea is to give you sound information so that you, with a sound foundation based on sound information, can design your own personal house of worship as you see fit. Who this book is for? This book is for those that believe in a higher power, those that want to cut to the chase and get to the bare knuckle truth, those that believe but don’t know exactly what to believe, those that seek the truth and those that want to know why as well.
