Book The Faithful Preacher Foreword by John Piper

Download or read book The Faithful Preacher Foreword by John Piper written by Thabiti M. Anyabwile and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2007-03-02 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cliché is that those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them. But Thabiti Anyabwile contends that it is not the mistakes we must study; it is the people who have overcome them. So he presents three of the most influential African-American pastors in American history who can teach us what faithful ministry entails. Lemuel Haynes (1753-1833) reminds pastors that eternity must shape our ministry. Daniel A. Payne (1811-1893) stresses the importance of character and preparation to faithful shepherding. And Francis J. Grimké (1850-1937) provides a vision for engaging the world with the gospel. While they are from the African-American tradition, they, like all true saints, belong to all Christians of every background and era. Distinctive for its use of rare and out-of-print messages, Anaybwile's work is valuable as a reference as well as a devotional resource.

  • Author : John Piper
  • Publisher : Crossway

  • Pages : 130 pages

Download or read book Stand written by John Piper and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2008-08-27 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With Contributions by John Piper, John MacArthur, Jerry Bridges, Randy Alcorn, and Helen Roseveare These powerful calls to godly perseverance from four admired Christians elevate the value and necessity of lifelong faithfulness in the lives of God's people. Many people seek to better their lives by leaving, changing, swapping, or modifying their commitments. But God's Word holds up a beautiful value that, while difficult, leads to deep satisfaction and great reward: endurance. Such long, steady, hold-the-course perseverance is especially needed within our vacillating generation. This thoughtful book thus not only elevates the virtue of godly endurance but bears witness to its power in the Christian life through the exhortations of John Piper-who provides the context and overview for the entire book-John MacArthur, Jerry Bridges, Randy Alcorn, and Helen Roseveare. Each contributor represents a different kind of endurance: from MacArthur's longtime, faithful shepherding of a church to Alcorn's radical obedience in the culture wars, from Bridges' unswerving patience through suffering to Roseveare's courageous constancy on the war-torn mission field. Stand will awaken and solidify rugged, Christ-exalting endurance in people who are weary in their faith journey or who simply long to remain firm to the end. And for everyone who dreams of a Christian culture-shift from brief trial runs to lifelong commitments, John Piper and Justin Taylor's latest offering is a watershed that will serve to seal that vision in people's minds and hearts.

Book Africa S Backwardness Misfortunes and the Word of God

Download or read book Africa S Backwardness Misfortunes and the Word of God written by Samuel Chuks Okafor and published by Partridge Africa. This book was released on 2014-08-27 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bookAfricas Backwardness, Misfortunes, and the Word of Godwas born out of serious burden God imposed on me immediately after I returned back to my village from America. I shaded tears and confronted God with many questions: Why are you partial against Africans? Why are other continents seem to be better than the African continent in all facets of human life except in evil acts? Why the unending scarcity of water, fuel, kerosine, and other mineral resources you gave to Africans, especially Nigeria? Why the unending electricity power failures? Why are all these second hand vehicles, used appliances, and materials in Africa? Why are all these bad roads in this part of the world? Why are the Easterners, Christian States, and the Jews of Nigeria marginalized in many aspect of Nigerian affairs? God, in his own way, lured me to research for the origin of blackman in the Bible. Thereafter, the Word of God arrested me, and the answers to the above queries surfaced plus many other divine revelations; hence today, I am an apostle of Jesus Christ preaching the Word of God. I owe unreserved apologies to God on behalf of Africans, Nigerians, and the Igbo ethnic group in particular hence the introduction of this book to the world. This book is an acid test for the Word of God, and a must read for inquisitive minds, all and sundries.
