Download or read book God Country Golf written by Wesley Hobbs Bauguess and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-04-11 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up as a girl with a boy’s name, Wesley Hobbs was predestined to take the road less traveled. She spent her youth on the beautiful golf courses of Southwest Florida, and while her high school friends wanted to go to Florida colleges, she accepted a golf scholarship to Appalachian State University in the North Carolina mountains. In college, her friends wanted to date the Army ROTC boys, but she decided to join them. As an Army cadet, Wesley met a good, Christian, young man, Larry Bauguess, who stole her heart. They married during her senior year, and upon graduation, they entered the Army and served together as lieutenants and captains. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage for almost fourteen years and were blessed with two beautiful daughters. Tragedy struck in May 2007, when Larry was killed in action while serving overseas with the 82nd Airborne Division. Wesley and her daughters were at home at Fort Bragg when the notification team delivered the heartbreaking news. Wesley would learn that the lessons taught in church, the Army, and on the golf course would give her the strength to carry on. This is her story.

Here are a few excerpts: WOW! A lot has changed in the past 20 years. When I first published this book in February, 1991, I didn't have a web address or a cell phone. Home computers were just starting to gain popularity and I hadn't quite turned 30 yet. ... Surprisingly, one thing that hasn't changed are the 10 Secrets for Golfing Success. They are still just as valid today as they were when I originally wrote about them 20 years ago. ... I Found the Golf God, 10 Secrets for Golfing Success was the first book I ever wrote, so it will always be very special to me. Based on the letters and comments I've received through the years, it's been a special book to dozens of other people, as well - both golfers and non-golfers alike. I've received letters from golf professionals giving the book credit for their first big tournament wins. I've received phone calls from men and women in all walks of life telling stories of how the book changed their lives (not just their golf games). I've even had several non-golfers get "mad" that it was a golf book and not a life improvement book, saying they almost hadn't read it because of that. One of the most magical moments for me was receiving a handwritten note from tennis legend, Martina Navratilova, stating how the concept of "target golf" had helped her golf game. Another was when international self-help author and success coach, Anthony Robbins, happened to come into a bookstore where I was doing a book signing, and asked me to autograph a copy of I Found the Golf God to his friend, Ken Blanchard (author of The One Minute Manager), as a birthday gift. ... I Found the Golf God sold nearly 10,000 copies in its first year, going to print three times in the first nine months. It's been used as a sales training tool, as a textbook for golf colleges, as a tournament gift bag item, and more. GOLFERS AND NON-GOLFERS ALIKE LOVE I Found the Golf God! With years and years of rave reviews from men and women golfers of all levels, this timeless golf and life improvement book is sure to help you improve your golf swing and your game!

Book excerpt: This exciting, highly theatrical docu-drama is about the growing white supremacist movement in America, those dedicated to violent revolution and the expulsion from "God's Country" of non Aryans. The play covers all of the right wing lunatic fringe while focusing on three narrative spines: the trial in Seattle of a paramilitary group which calls itself The Order; the career and death of Denver's Allan Berg, the outspoken, controversial, Jewish talk radio personality "assassinated" by The Order; and, finally, the hate filled career and death of The Order's founder, Robert Matthews. These narratives are skillfully interwoven, sometimes non chronologically, with statistics and facts into a kaleidoscopic and highly theatrical vision.

Download or read book Balls written by Gail W. Braman and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2000-09 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Read what the golf critics are saying about BALLS!: * THE GOLF COLLECTORS SOCIETY BULLETIN - 3/2001 Gail W. Braman has written BALLS! (Confessions of a Rural Golf Course Owner). This is the story of the insanely odd and crazy people who frequent a nine-hole golf course beside Route 100 in Rochester, Vermont. The stories are so nearly unbelievable that one would think that the book is fiction, but I can personally vouch for the authenticity because I lived just a few miles from the course and have heard the inane questions and observed the outrageous behavior first hand... I have been hearing about this book for years and the fact that it is finally in print, despite the odds inherent in the publishing world, is a testament to the chutzpah and perseverance of Gail Braman. She owned the course, and as such interacted with the people, recorded her astute observations when it was all over and got it down on paper. You’ll enjoy the tale. -Bob Labbance, Editor * GOLF BUSINESS(Nat’l Golf Course Owners Assoc)- 2/2001 Gail Braman made the mistake of telling her recently retired husband that she didn’t want him home for lunch. So, he went out and purchased a nine-hole golf course in rural Rochester, Vermont. Braman captures this nine-year adventure as golf course owners. Through the pages of this account, you’re invited inside their world as inexperienced golf course owners, where you learn what really happens behind the scenes through humorous vignettes and anecdotes. * HEARTHSTONE REVIEW (Duly Noted) - 4/01 A little investment property in bucolic Vermont, a pleasant summer-time diversion. That was the plan anyway. Before opening day was flooded out. Before the backhoes cleaning up the debris inflicted further damage. Before the discouraging financial realities set in, running a remote homespun golf course overshadowed by two tony resorts (The Hertz and Avis to their little 9-hole Rent A Wreck). The claustrophic Vermont golf season didn´t help. Nor did the vagaries of New England weather, a shortage of tourist center bathrooms or characters straight from central casting. For nearly a decade it sure made life interesting for Herb and Gail Braman.

Book The Battle for Augusta National

Download or read book The Battle for Augusta National written by Alan Shipnuck and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2008-06-17 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The controversy began with a seemingly innocuous private letter, and spiraled into the biggest media event in golf history. The Augusta National membership dispute dominated headlines and watercooler conversation for nearly a year, propelled by twenty-first-century hot-button issues and a pair of perfectly drawn foils in Hootie Johnson and Martha Burk. But a year after Burk's messy Masters week protest, the meaning of the membership controversy remains elusive. In The Battle for Augusta National, Alan Shipnuck -- who reinvented the PGA Tour narrative with the rollicking Bud, Sweat, & Tees -- provides the definitive account of what really happened and why. In this lively, irreverent, ambitious book, Shipnuck chases the story from the chairman's office at Augusta National to the living room of the One Man Klan, along the way bringing to life a vivid cast of characters and revealing subplots aplenty. With meticulous reporting and penetrating insights, Shipnuck provides a nuanced look into the complex and contradictory worlds of Hootie and Martha, who were drawn together like moths to a flame; reveals Augusta National's secret plots to undermine the press and the accompanying turmoil at The New York Times, including an exclusive interview with the Times's disgraced executive editor, Howell Raines; and explores the Southern politics that led to Burk's Masters week banishment, drawing on Senate confirmation hearings and campaign contribution documents to link local politicians and a federal judge to Augusta National. From Tiger Woods to Jack Welch, Sandra Day O'Connor to Bryant Gumbel, Treasury Secretary Snow to Jesse Jackson, the gang's all here in this withering look at a story that never stopped churning. Along the way, many of the membership controversy's mysteries are revealed. How did Augusta National's top-secret membership roll become public? Who was the shadowy protester identified by hoodwinked reporters as Heywood Jablome? Did Burk lie about a vast right-wing conspiracy to undermine her demonstration? All of this and much more can be found in The Battle for Augusta National, a book that captures the passion and absurdity of a great national debate that continues to simmer.

Book Tales from the Diamond City Social Club

Download or read book Tales from the Diamond City Social Club written by Douglas Simpson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-10-23 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What about this book? For one thing, at first look, it seems to be poorly organized. Granted, it does seem to be confusing. However, as disorganized as it appears to be, all four of the chapters are connected quite logically. All four of the chapters exist for one purpose: each one of the four has something important to say about why Diamond City is so unique and has a very bright future. The focus now is to make that bright future a reality. Chapter I: Let us consider the unique kind of people our residents are. For example, read this chapter and find out how our people demonstrated the strong humanitarian traits that are embedded in the folks of Diamond City. They are the core of Diamond City. Chapter II: This one is easy. It is connected to where prospective visitors need to go. In this chapter, there is an answer for any visitor and/or prospect that asks a question about any topic having to do with Diamond City. Chapter III: If you are looking to check out what is in Diamond City, you will have to do some research on our animals, especially those that may come to your property at any time of the day or night. This chapter has two animal tales to tell. One is about a real-life story of humans attempting to deal with three kinds of precocious animals. Find out who wins! The second animal tale is about intergroup relations between Canada geese, mallard ducks, migrant ducks, and one coot. It may cause you to compare their behavior with some humans you know. Chapter IV: Here we have done a favor for our prospects. They now have a source where they can find out firsthand from our residents what it is like to live in DC.

Book Dream Golf

Download or read book Dream Golf written by Stephen Goodwin and published by Algonquin Books. This book was released on 2010-06-01 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Mike Keiser followed his instincts to build courses that speak to golf as a rugged adventure. Steve Goodwin's spirited book will speak to the golfing soul in you." —Lorne Rubenstein, columnist for The Globe and Mail (Canada) and author of A Season in Dornoch On a wild, windblown bluff high above the Pacific sits one of America’s premier golfing destinations, Bandon Dunes. Golf enthusiast Mike Keiser had the dream of building this British-style "links" course on a stretch of Oregon's rugged coast, and Dream Golf is the first all-inclusive account of how he turned his passion into a reality. Now, in this updated and expanded edition, golf writer Stephen Goodwin revisits Bandon Dunes and introduces readers to Keiser's latest effort there, a new course named Old Macdonald that will present golfers with a more rugged, untamed version of the game. This "new" approach to the sport is, in fact, a return to the game's origins, with a very deep bow to Charles Blair Macdonald (1856 –1939), the father of American golf course architecture and one of the founders of the U.S. Golf Association. This highly anticipated fourth course, designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Doak along with Jim Urbina — as detailed in Dream Golf — will further enhance Bandon Dunes' reputation as a place where golf really does seem to capture the ancient magic of the game.
