Book excerpt: Right now, parents are wearing many hats, including productive business professional, homeschool teacher, chef and professional cat herder. The biggest challenge is organizing it all, and having teens and tweens take ownership over their own work. As a mom of 2, I have dealt with teens who said they wanted to learn a new language, or improve in their sports, but forgot to stick to their plans. So I decided to put my project management experience to work and I taught them a teen-friendly version of how to set SMART goals. This step-by-step guide walks parents and teens through defining goals that are in line with our teens' dreams and passions. Then it provides detailed explanations and worksheets to follow the process of breaking tasks into manageable and doable activities so they can accomplish new goals like learning to program or write a short story. We designed it especially for teens who are working to prepare themselves for college, play competitive sports, and be a leader in extracurricular activities. It can also benefit teens who need to learn executive functioning skills, especially if they're struggling with ADHD or similar challenges. From goal setting expert Carmen Proctor, this book will help parents work together with their teens in learning goal setting, time management, planning and prioritizing. When teens learn to build their own plan, and then focus on working the plan, their confidence soars and they actually get to enjoy what they're working on!"We all face numerous challenges daily. Carmen's practical framework is meant to help ourselves and teach our kids how to help themselves. It is an invaluable tool for parents and kids in today's fast-changing and complex setting." - Natalija Jovanovic, MIT PhD, 2x mom, Digital Leader, Problem-Solver

Book excerpt: Wanna get your kids to learn goal setting & accomplishing? Since succeeding is a process, they can learn - goal setting, planning, and getting - skills and do them effortlessly over time. Moreover, using this Goal Journal is quite the first time they will tip-toe chronological and systematic thinking. It starts with biggest picture as dreams and annual goals. Then, goals will be chunked down to bite-sized daily actions. Don't worry if your kids put too many on planning pages, it will be lesson-learned for them. Let them learn. In the part of Daily actions The schedule helps them rate their actions into -10, 0, +10, relating to goals. For example, if their goal is to lose 10 pounds, and they eat ice-cream and thus they rate themself -10; they run this morning and they score +10; they sit all day long while being on social media and they rate themself 0. 10-increment is easy to sum up quickly at the end of the day. I add the last column, but not least important, Goal / Why. This is to remind them the goal and of course why or for who they intend to do it at the first place. It is worth it. 'Why' or 'For Who' is to remind, inspire and at the same time energize them to do things that make them stick with their goals / dreams. It works wonder for me and so do they. I even have different color pens for each goals so I can skim quickly on what goals I'm focusing this week or recently. I found later that I have too many goals and in fact I can only focus on a few goals each year. It might be the same for them. 5 Successes is to put their successes of the day. It helps improve self-esteem and confidence which are needed to accomplish goals / dreams. The aims, what I'm going to do tomorrow, filling it out before they go to sleep, help them start fresh in the morning tomorrow because they already plan ahead. They sleep soundly without worries and jump out after waking up as well as know right away what awaits. Finally, Sum the number up at the end of each and every day. They now know how well they do and how they can improve (in the space at the bottommost), relating to their goals / dreams. Eventually, they tend not to do anything not relating to their goals. Also, remind them to appreciate themself for good work (the bottommost space as well). Note It is for about 6 months (182 days). It has 190 pages. It is undated. It is black and white.
