Book POMES FOR GNOMES And Everyone Else

Download or read book POMES FOR GNOMES And Everyone Else written by Ron Richie and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To every Gnome in Rome...and elsewhere. It has been said, that in order to master anything, to hone one's talents, whatever they may be, a person must first endure a gauntlet of suffering, including being pummeled by insults and derision from friends and family. This book is the culmination of suffering years of adversity from spouse, siblings, children, workplace peers, and even sometimes, my own self-condemnation. The title; "Pomes for Gnomes" comes from my love for fairy tales. The term "pome" actually has two definitions. One is a fruit with its seeds in the middle, such as an apple, and the other is a poetic form of "poem." My apologies to apples, I have chosen the latter. I have always been an avid reader and as a young boy I discovered the world of imagination in poetic literature. There is no limit to human imagination, and my favorite literature has always been science fiction, fairy tales, and fantasy. I grew up reading comic books and fairy tales, letting my imagination take me on a trip with the make-believe characters. When you read a story, you become the hero and you own the adventure, and when the story is a fantasy, you become a superhero. Someone once said that dreams are necessary to life, and I firmly believe that. In that regard, a fiction writer could be called a dream maker. This book is an expression of some of my dreams. Some of my "pomes" are an escape from reality, some may be a personification of it, and some are nonsensical. I hope you find them mostly humorous and entertaining. ---Ron Richie.

Download or read book Shroud Of The Gnome written by James Tate and published by Ecco. This book was released on 1999-07-22 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speakers in James Tate's poems are and are not like those we know: a man's meditation on gardening renders him witless; another man traps theories and then lets them loose in a city park; a nun confides that "it was her / cowboy pride that got her through"; a gnome's friend inhabits a world where "a great eschatological ferment is at work. "Shroud of the Gnome" is a bravura performance in Tate's signature style: playful, wicked, deliriously sober, charming, and dazzling. Here, once again, one of America's most masterful poets celebrates the inexplicable in his own strange tongue.

Book Gnomes

  • Author : Don Welch
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2013-08-31
  • ISBN : 9781936205660
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Gnomes written by Don Welch and published by . This book was released on 2013-08-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the preface to Don Welch’s latest collection of poems, “Gnomes” are defined as: n. short expressions, from a word meaningjudgment, opinion, purpose; of, or pertaining to, someone originally Greek, especially a poet. n. a species of diminutive beings, usually shriveled old men who troll interiors, guarding earth’s treasures. This is an apt description of Welch’s book, indeed. The senior poet of Nebraska and the Great Plains, Don Welch may sardonically regard himself as the “shriveled old man” who both explores the Plains’ interiors and, by writing about them, becomes the protector of the earth’s treasures. Thegnomesin this collection are beautiful little crystals of verse, reminiscent of the brevity of ancient Chinese poetry but purposefully armed with the occidental twists of language and experience that only someone immersed and baptized in the spirit of the local can wield. Welch’s poems are vertical moments for our busy horizontal lives. They are like pendants of beaded water, their careful silences speaking loudly through our din.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you know that even a newborn baby gains lifelong benefit from story time? Neuro-educational studies have found that the brain is most impressionable to the nuances of languages during the first three years of life, and that the ritual of storytelling enhances problem-solving, decision-making, and even an understanding of abstract ideas. In fact, reading to your young children is more than a shared pleasure; it's an essential routine that is best introduced long before your children express an interest. Now, education specialist Jennise Conley, founder of the Energy and Sciences Education Initiative, presents an indispensable, early-development resource in the form of her whimsical, charming children's book, A Fish, a Frog, and a Gnome: My Favorite Poems. Through three easy-to-read, playful rhymes and vibrant illustrations, this book is certain to help engage children and students in a lifelong joy of reading while helping to sharpen their cognitive abilities and tap into the power of their young imaginations. Presented in large, clean letters with eye-catching, colorful pictures, the three delightful, whimsical rhymes featured in this book will help start an early ritual of reading that is both fun and reader friendly, while at the same time enhancing cognitive development. Themed around three wishes, the rhymes introduce children to this abstract notion through clear, comprehensible stories. "The First Wish" features a young child who wishes to catch a fish, and instead finds something very different. "The Second Wish" spotlights a bespectacled frog, who wishes that he was a dog with surprising, silly results. "The Third Wish" finds a gnome at home, grumpily sleeping on a piece of foam. In addition, the book features a letter to parents to help them make the most of story time. From instructions on the best practices for reading to newborns to the importance of repetition in the human brain, this instructional letter will enable any parent to make the most out of reading to lend comfort, facilitate the processing of information, and make story time a perennially fun experience for your child. By portraying books as a treasure trove of exciting mysteries and new ideas to discover, you'll share with your children a magical world that will become a natural, and deeply meaningful, part of your child's life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Come along with educator and writer Judy Brim as she shows you a world full of frantic animal antics, passels of pigs, and home-hopping gnomes! While each poem is bright and engaging, they are all part of a larger purpose. Every poem in this unique collection will help intermediate readers and English language learners understand a new phonetic sound and apply it to their own communication. By encountering several words with different spellings of the same sound, like the short /a/ sound in "frantic animal antics," readers will gain the confidence to pick them out in other books and practice them aloud. Brim's thirty poems include everything from the common vowel sounds to tricky silent letters (bouquet, thumb) that can trip up any reader. While parents are encouraged to help their children through the book, a sample lesson plan at the beginning of the collection demonstrates its applications in a classroom setting. In addition to common English sounds, Brim also includes poems about idioms, homophones, and important new vocabulary words. By reading these wonderful works and playing the games Brim includes at the end of her collection, readers can have fun while practicing important reading and spelling skills.
