Book excerpt: Dark elf Drizzt Do’Urden fights for his survival in the labyrinthine tunnels of the Underdark Ten years have passed since we last saw Drizzt Do’Urden and his magical feline companion, Guenhwyvar—and much has changed. Exiled from Menzoberranzan, the city of his childhood and the hub of drow society, Drizzt now wanders the subterranean maze of the Underdark in search of a new home. As I became a creature of the empty tunnels, survival became easier and more difficult all at once. I gained in the physical skills and experience necessary to live on. I could defeat almost anything that wandered into my chosen domain. It did not take me long, however, to discover one nemesis that I could neither defeat nor flee. It followed me wherever I went—indeed, the farther I ran, the more it closed in around me. My enemy was solitude, the interminable, incessant silence of hushed corridors. But loneliness is not the only thing that preys on Drizzt: His drow enemies, including his own siblings, would like nothing more than to see him dead. They begin their own search of the Underdark tunnels with murder on their minds, forcing Drizzt to watch his back at every turn. Exile is the second book in the Dark Elf Trilogy and the Legend of Drizzt series.

Locked in an eternal Autumn, Airlann, the Source Isle of Magic, is dying. Nearly a millennium earlier, the last of the Goblin Kings were assassinated. Now a fanatical army of Goblins known as the Red Caps are determined to bring their bloodline back to the throne via an heir whose identity is a deeply guarded secret. Padric, a human cast aside as cursed by his own people, travels alongside the alluring piskie Rosheen, his lifelong friend. As the Red Caps wage war, Padric and Rosheen find themselves in midst of the battle, having allied themselves with the unlikeliest of creatures: Deglan Loamtoes, a healer gnome whose cynicism is rivaled only by his quick wit, and Pocket, an orphaned changeling fostered by the avian Knights of the Valiant Spur. Soon this ragtag posse of wayfarers is confronting skin-changers, bloodthirsty marauders, and fire-crazed fanatics—determined to discover the true identity of the long-lost heir before the Red Caps release forces powerful enough to destroy Airlann once and for all. But is this band of unlikely heroes strong enough to stand against the descendant of the dreadful Goblin Kings? “An addictively readable—and undeniably cool—fantasy masterwork.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review) on The Grey Bastards

Book Legend of The Mono Gnome

Download or read book Legend of The Mono Gnome written by "Little John" Adams and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beautiful yet strange this night was. Often, when I could not sleep, I would get up, go outside into the fresh air and ponder the gazillion stars overhead. I think most people's imagination comes alive when one walks in the dark. As I meandered slowly through the forest, something distracted the corner of my eye. I saw what looked to be a very small person just ahead of me. I quickly followed this little being but could not keep up. Startling me, he suddenly jumped smack dab in my path. My heart raced considerably, for I had never seen any living thing that looked quite like him. The little fellow standing in front of me smiled, extended his rather large hand and said, "Hi John. I'm Moffee, Moffee Vicket." An unusual name, I thought. But the question was how did he know my name? At times when I looked at Moffee, it seemed as though he was taller or shorter than at other times; but always proportionate for the situation. He was very pudgy and had a comforting and disarming countenance about him. Even though I didn't speak my thoughts out loud, Moffee turned toward me and said, "Gnomes are supposed to be pudgy." And he laughed. After very little conversation, one could tell he was quite serious about the enjoyment of life. Moffee bid me to walk with him, and so my life changing story began.

Kahavari, Chief of Puna. Kahalaopuna, the Princess of Manoa. The legends in this volume are from a group of sun kissed islands lying almost midway between Asia and America. These Islands were unknown to the Western world until Captain James Cook discovered them on his third journey to the Pacific in January 1778. Here he discovered a cluster of volcanic craters and coral-reefs, where the mountains are mantled in perpetual green and look down upon valleys of eternal spring. Here, for two-thirds of the year trade-winds, sweeping down from the northwest coast of America are softened in their passage southward. They dally with the stately cocoas and spreading palms, and mingle their cooling breath with the ever-living fragrance of fruit and frangipani blossom. These islands greet the eye of the approaching mariner like a shadowy paradise, suddenly lifted from the blue depths they soar above the Pacific Ocean inviting him to drop anchor by this enchanted shore. ============ KEYWORDS-TAGS: Hawaii, folklore, fairytales, myths, legends, children’s stories, island life, surf, sun drenched, mountains, volcanoes, pacific ocean, king kalakaua, Hina, Helen Of Hawaii, Royal Hunchback, Triple Marriage, Laa-Mai-Kahiki, Apotheosis, Pele, Hua, King Of Hana, Iron Knife, Sacred Spear-Point, Kelea, Surf-Rider, Maui, Umi, Peasant Prince, Lono, Kaikilani, Adventures, Iwikauikaua, Prophecies, Keaulumoku, Cannibals, Halemanu, Kaiana, Last, Hawaiian Knights, Kaala, Flower Of Lanai, Destruction, Temples, Tomb, Puupehe, Story, Laieikawai, Lohiau, Lover Of A Goddess, Kahavari, Chief Of Puna, Kahalaopuna, Princess Of Manoa
