  • Author : Irvine Welsh
  • Publisher : W. W. Norton & Company
  • Release : 2001-05-17
  • ISBN : 0393343677
  • Pages : 480 pages

Download or read book Glue written by Irvine Welsh and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2001-05-17 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An epic novel about the bonds of friendship from the author of Trainspotting. The story of four boys growing up in the Edinburgh projects, Glue is about the loyalties, the experiences, and the secrets that hold friends together through three decades. The boys become men: Juice Terry, the work-shy fanny-merchant, with corkscrew curls and sticky fingers; Billy the boxer, driven, controlled, playing to his strengths; Carl, the Milky Bar Kid, drifting along to his own soundtrack; and the doomed Gally, exceedingly thin-skinned and vulnerable to catastrophe at every turn. We follow their lives from the seventies into the new century—from punk to techno, from speed to E. Their mutual loyalty is fused in street morality: Back up your mates, don't hit women, and, most important, never snitch—on anyone. Glue has the Irvine Welsh trademarks—crackling dialogue, scabrous set pieces, and black, black humor—but it is also a grown-up book about growing up; about the way we live our lives, and what happens to us when things become unstuck.

Book Microtia and Atresia Combined Approach by Plastic and Otologic Surgery

Download or read book Microtia and Atresia Combined Approach by Plastic and Otologic Surgery written by K. Kaga and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remarkable progress in the development of new concepts and techniques used in reconstructive surgery of microtia/atresia of the external auditory canal (EAC) has been made since the beginning of the 21st century. Helical computed tomography has made a three-dimensional reconstruction of the soft tissue of the temporal bone surface and the cranium possible, and has laid the groundwork for a collaboration between plastic surgeons and otologists. This book presents the latest findings on reconstructive surgery performed jointly by plastic surgeons and otologists. Based on this concept, information on diagnosis, surgical procedures, outcomes, long-term results and psychology is discussed. Collaborative surgery offers advantages not only in terms of a better reconstruction of morphology and function, but also in terms of the lower number of surgical procedures required which reduces the psychological pressure and economic burden on patients.

  • Release : 1995-06-08
  • ISBN : 9781898683032
  • Pages : 156 pages

Download or read book Glue Ear in Childhood written by Richard Maw and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1995-06-08 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glue ear, or otitis media with effusion, is the commonest reason for elective surgery in childhood. Based on data compiled from a large number of prospective and longitudinal studies, this volume evaluates the course, and some of the causes, of the condition and demonstrates morphological differences in the nasopharynx of affected children. Included in this analysis is a report on the effects of surgical management with adenoidectomy, adeno-tonsillectomy and grommets. Complications that arise from the disease and its treatment are reported along with factors of prognostic significance for outcome. Evaluation of these factors has enabled the author to make suggestions of factors to help define where surgery would be beneficial.
