Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glue ear, or otitis media with effusion, is the commonest reason for elective surgery in childhood. Based on data compiled from a large number of prospective and longitudinal studies, this volume evaluates the course, and some of the causes, of the condition and demonstrates morphological differences in the nasopharynx of affected children. Included in this analysis is a report on the effects of surgical management with adenoidectomy, adeno-tonsillectomy and grommets. Complications that arise from the disease and its treatment are reported along with factors of prognostic significance for outcome. Evaluation of these factors has enabled the author to make suggestions of factors to help define where surgery would be beneficial.
