Every year, the Christmas Village comes to life...but only if all the people and pieces of the village are set up by sunset on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The Real House children, Annie, Maggie, and Joanie don't have time to finish setting up the village before they leave for Gramma and Grampa's house the day after Thanksgiving. With just a little magic left, and a lot of cooperation, the people of the Christmas Village come alive and get to work, racing against time and overcoming obstacles to finish setting up the village. Grannie Noelle, her faithful dog, Holly-Honey, the magic owls, Ora and Ona, and all the wonderful children and residents of the village share ideas and work together hoping to refuel the Glow-Mometer before sunset on Sunday. Will they be able to accomplish this magical task in time, or will they just be ordinary Christmas Village figures this season who cannot move or talk?

Book The Rise and Fall of Meter

Download or read book The Rise and Fall of Meter written by Meredith Martin and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do we often teach English poetic meter by the Greek terms iamb and trochee? How is our understanding of English meter influenced by the history of England's sense of itself in the nineteenth century? Not an old-fashioned approach to poetry, but a dynamic, contested, and inherently nontraditional field, "English meter" concerned issues of personal and national identity, class, education, patriotism, militarism, and the development of English literature as a discipline. The Rise and Fall of Meter tells the unknown story of English meter from the late eighteenth century until just after World War I. Uncovering a vast and unexplored archive in the history of poetics, Meredith Martin shows that the history of prosody is tied to the ways Victorian England argued about its national identity. Gerard Manley Hopkins, Coventry Patmore, and Robert Bridges used meter to negotiate their relationship to England and the English language; George Saintsbury, Matthew Arnold, and Henry Newbolt worried about the rise of one metrical model among multiple competitors. The pressure to conform to a stable model, however, produced reactionary misunderstandings of English meter and the culture it stood for. This unstable relationship to poetic form influenced the prose and poems of Robert Graves, Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen, W. B. Yeats, Ezra Pound, and Alice Meynell. A significant intervention in literary history, this book argues that our contemporary understanding of the rise of modernist poetic form was crucially bound to narratives of English national culture.

Book Creatures from the Sky

Download or read book Creatures from the Sky written by Brandon Rowell and published by Brandon Rowell. This book was released on 2024-10-17 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In "Rise of the Deep: Creatures from the Sky," Earth faces an unprecedented alien invasion that begins with strange attacks from the skies. These airborne creatures devastate cities and defenses, leading to widespread chaos. Humanity's only hope lies in the leadership of Commander Jackson and Captain Sarah, who rise to the challenge of protecting Earth against this relentless enemy. The war escalates as alien forces not only attack from above but reveal hidden bases deep within Earth’s oceans. The aliens' coordination and overwhelming power push Earth’s defenses to the brink, but Jackson and Sarah lead daring missions to uncover the truth behind the alien’s assault. They discover that the aliens are using advanced technology, controlled through a series of powerful relays, to coordinate their attacks on a global scale. As the Earth fleet fights to survive, the crew uncovers the aliens’ hidden command center in uncharted space. Jackson leads a high-risk mission to disable the alien relay network, a move that could cripple the enemy's ability to coordinate their forces. Meanwhile, Earth’s defenses are strained to the limit as alien ships, including a massive behemoth, threaten to overwhelm the planet. In the climactic battle, the Earth fleet strikes at the heart of the alien command, destroying their coordination and turning the tide of the war. With the alien fleet in disarray, humanity gains the upper hand, but the victory is hard-won. The battle takes a heavy toll on the crew, and many lives are lost in the process. The story concludes with a hard-fought victory, but with the realization that the threat is not entirely gone. The war may be over, but the scars remain, and humanity must rebuild and prepare for whatever comes next. "Rise of the Deep: Creatures from the Sky" is a thrilling tale of survival, sacrifice, and the resilience of humanity in the face of overwhelming odds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first eleven chapters of Genesis (Adam, Eve, Noah) are to the twenty-first century what the virgin birth was to the nineteenth century: an impossibility. A technical scientific exegesis of Genesis 1-11, however, reveals not only the lost rivers of Eden and the garden's location, but the date of the flood, the length of the Genesis days, and the importance of comets in the creation of the world. These were hidden in the Hebrew text, now illuminated by modern cosmology, archaeology. and biology. The internet-friendly linguistic tools described in this book make it possible to resolve the location, the extent, and the destruction of Eden and Noah's flood. Ancient Egyptian, Greek, Norse, Sumerian, and Sanskrit mythology are all found to support this new interpretation of Genesis. Combining science, myth, and the Genesis accounts paints a vivid picture of the genetic causes and consequences of the greatest flood of the human race. It also draws attention to the acute peril our present civilization faces as it follows the same path as its long-forgotten, antediluvian ancestors. Discover why Genesis has never been so possible, so relevant as it is today.

Book Right Node Raising and Gapping

Download or read book Right Node Raising and Gapping written by Katharina Hartmann and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2001-02-01 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates two elliptical coordinations in German, Right Node Raising and Gapping. Ellipsis in both constructions is claimed to be the result of a phonological process which is conditioned by prosodic and focus semantic constraints. It is convincingly argued that Right Node Raising cannot involve raising to the right periphery: The alleged movement freely violates any of the well-known restrictions on syntactic movement and it does not alter the scope relations within the coordination. Gapping in contrast is more sensitive to syntactic conditions in that its remnants must be major syntactic constituents. The author carefully examines the close connection between focus and ellipsis in the two constructions. A considered discussion of focus structure demonstrates that the conjuncts are informationally dependent on each other. This co-dependence is also reflected in their particular intonational contour which is argued to be responsible for ellipsis in coordination.
