Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scientific disciplines of hydrology and hydrogeology are expanding as the Earth's water is being recognized by governments and individuals as a shrinking resource—no entity can afford to take water for granted. At the present time, there is no single reference source for definitions. The Encyclopedic Dictionary of Hydrogeology is a practical, comprehensive reference guide with complete definitions of terms in hydrogeology and other fields closely related to water practices. This concise reference not only defines terms and concepts, but also provides a clear explanation of key elements so that an in-depth understanding of processes may be obtained. Book Dictionary of Hydrology and Water Resources

Download or read book Dictionary of Hydrology and Water Resources written by Gordon Stanger and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-06-06 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book has its origin when I was an academic at Flinders University. Some Australian students, and many overseas students, seemed to be having difficulty with the jargon. To overcome this obstacle I started giving a glossary as a hand-out of a few pages. With each successive year the glossary expanded more and more until it reached the stage when I thought I might as well turn it into a technical dictionary for the benefit of both students and the many in-career professionals. The first edition was quite well received, but that was 20 years ago, and it is now starting to look distinctly dated. Also, in the intervening period the entire jargon of the water sector has expanded and evolved so, in response to several peoples suggestion of a revise3d updated and expanded edition, here it is.

Book French English and English French glossary of hydrogeology and groundwater hydraulics

Download or read book French English and English French glossary of hydrogeology and groundwater hydraulics written by Jean Margat and published by Editions Brgm. This book was released on 1997 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The water-related sector has, over the past 25 years, undergone considerable development accompanied by increased awareness of our water resources and their quality and of the need for a multidisciplinary approach. This called for a major revision and enrichment of the Glossary of Hydrogeology and Groundwater Hydraulics by Jean Margat that was published in 1972. The new Glossary, with over 5000 terms, focuses essentially on hydrogeology, groundwater and surface hydrology, but also includes entries related to water-resource assessment and management the Environment and project management. It is an essential reference work for all professionals in the water resource domain, whether academic or applied, and a must for all who read and/or write texts associated with hydrogeology and groundwater hydraulics.

Book excerpt: After long years of experience abroad and studies in sciences in Germany, Beate Blumenkamp (nee Staniewski), Brazilian-born daughter of German parents, has gained comprehensive experience in water engineering. Later, she switched to the field of international water management education and training until, in 2006, she started her own business with GCC - Global Cultural Communication (water management consulting). Concurrently with various international activities, she has constantly collected and filed technical terminology in 6 languages. In 2011, she realized the WorldWideWaterWeb (www.ww-waterweb.com), an international web portal for the entire water management sector. The Concise Dictionary of Hydrology is intended to enhance the cooperation between the English and German-speaking hydrology markets. Both professional hydrologists and students will find substantiated support and the most important hydrology terminology.

Book excerpt: In recent years, the focus in groundwater studies has expanded to also include groundwater contamination and remediation studies as a part of resource evaluations. While there are other books on the subject, Field Hydrogeology-A Guide for Site Investigations and Report Preparation provides the first integrated presentation of the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) standards, US Geological Survey (USGS), and US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) field techniques. It also includes access to a Web site that contains software for designing aquifer tests and aquifer-recharge experiments. Written by an author with more than 40 years of experience in hydrology and geology, this reference treats the subject from a field standpoint. Useful as a field guide and a textbook, it contains standard methods for planning and undertaking hydrogeologic investigations. It incorporates case studies, contains a glossary of field-hydrogeology technical terms, and provides a detailed list of ASTM standards and key hydrologic Web sites. The guide is based on ASTM standards, EPA, and US Department of Interior (DOI) field technical manuals. The text covers hydrogeologic fundamentals, conceptual models, planning an investigation, surface investigations, subsurface investigations, field inventory, stream flow measurements, water quality measurements, and report preparation. It includes more recent groundwater evaluation techniques such as tracing and isotope techniques. Field Hydrogeology will allow students and seasoned professionals to have a vast array of clearly written descriptive materials and an extensive source of references available at their fingertips. About the Author: John E. Moore, Ph.D., is a hydrogeologist at the USEPA Region 8 in Denver, Colorado. Book Elements of Physical Hydrology

Download or read book Elements of Physical Hydrology written by George M. Hornberger and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2014-08-11 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most cogent textbook ever produced on the topic, this revised and expanded edition will be welcomed by students and professionals alike. Among the many diverse aspects of environmental science, none is more critical to the future of society and nature than water. Understanding the role of water on Earth and making good decisions regarding water conservation and hydrological hazards depends on learning the fundamentals of physical hydrology. This textbook, now in an expanded second edition, provides the clearest opportunity for students to absorb those fundamentals. Written at an introductory level, Elements of Physical Hydrology covers virtually every aspect of this subject, including: • The hydrological cycle • Water budgets at catchment to global scales • Spatial and temporal aspects of precipitation • Evapotranspiration • Fluid dynamics and the Bernoulli equation • Laminar and turbulent flows • Open channel flow • Flood movement through reservoirs and channels • Flood frequency analysis • Groundwater flow • Aquifer characterization • Land subsidence • Soil moisture dynamics • Flow in the unsaturated zone • Hydrologic controls on vegetation • Biotic controls on hydrological processes • Runoff generation from surface and subsurface sources • Catchment models • The water-food-energy nexus • The globalization of water • Impacts of changing climate Layering one topic upon the next, Elements of Physical Hydrology succeeds in moving from simple, easy-to-grasp explanations through equations and models in a manner that will leave students new to the topic eager to apply their knowledge. Professionals in related disciplines will also find this book ideal for self-study. Thoughtfully illustrated, carefully written, and covering a broad spectrum of topics, this classic text clarifies a subject that is often misunderstood and oversimplified.
