Book Glory Descending

Download or read book Glory Descending written by Douglas Dales and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-07-12 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MICHAEL RAMSEY (1905–1988) was one of the greatest Anglican archbishops of the twentieth century and a man of spiritual depth who inspired a generation of Christians. Evangelical by origin, catholic by formation, and liberal by instinct, Ramsey learned from many traditions and, as Archbishop of Canterbury, moved ecumenical dialogue into a new and decisive phase. A remarkable spiritual leader, he continues to be remembered as both reverent and visionary. Glory Descending serves both as an introduction to Ramsey’s life and as a reader of his key writings. The introductory chapter gives an overview of Ramsey’s career and explains why he was such a significant figure in recent church history. The large selection of Ramsey’s writings that follows makes readily accessible the essence of his thought. Drawn from all of his works, these powerful passages constitute an exceptionally consistent body of spiritual theology and teaching. Here we have not just a voice from the past but a prophetic call to holiness and faith in our own times. Also included are reflections by leading churchmen and scholars on Ramsey’s continuing influence. Four pieces by Rowan Williams probe distinctive themes in Ramsey’s thought. John Habgood and Geoffrey Rowell offer lectures prepared for the centenary of Ramsey’s birth. Douglas Dales explores the contours of Ramsey’s spiritual theology. Finally, the book has been designed as a companion to the Christian liturgical year, making it an invaluable aid to preaching, teaching, and devotions.

Book excerpt: The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) Reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on each and every page of the Bible. The book of Exodus recounts the single most important event in Israel’s history: their escape from slavery in the land of Egypt. Tracing their journey across the Red Sea, through the wilderness, and eventually to Mount Sinai, this foundational Old Testament text highlights the supreme faithfulness and mercy of God in contrast to Israel’s consistent grumbling, rebellion, and sin—showing us that God is a God who saves sinners.

Book The Descending New Jerusalem

Download or read book The Descending New Jerusalem written by Loren Covarrubias and published by Call from the Mountain. This book was released on 2022-12-08 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost two thousand years ago, the apostle John received a revelation of Jesus Christ while abandoned on the Isle of Patmos. Imagine all he saw and endured: from his time with Christ, through the formation of the early church, until the Revelation. In a moment, he is brought into the realm of heaven to see, perceive, and receive understanding for himself and his day. His revelation still speaks to us! The Revelation has been misinterpreted for too many years, shaping our view of God and His plan for the church of Jesus Christ. It is time to stop looking for an exit strategy from creation to become a great demonstration of His kingdom. The new Jerusalem is not a fictious city set in a distant time beyond our reach and comprehension. It is a present reality granted to the church to boldly declare to our world what a satisfied life really looks like. It is time for us to stop taking the Good News and making it “bad news” in hope that we can get one more convert.

Book Let Us Descend

    Book Details:
  • Author : L. Sheldon Oldford
  • Publisher : Page Publishing Inc
  • Release : 2021-03-25
  • ISBN : 1683484142
  • Pages : 172 pages

Download or read book Let Us Descend written by L. Sheldon Oldford and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-03-25 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced beings from somewhere in our galaxy descending on mountaintops, appeared to men in burning bushes. Angels, known as cherubim with four wings and wheels, flew with the sound of thunder. Beings, who ate, drank, and communicated with ancient biblical people, were Earth's first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization. We, the humans of today, refer to these beings as the God of the Bible. In this book, L. Sheldon Oldford compares the knowledge we have of science and technology to the characteristics of the biblical God as the unseen, ever-present, and all-knowing deity only to find that this being is more like a flesh-and-blood ancient astronaut. This astronaut arrived on Earth thousands of years ago and made contact with biblical figures, such as Adam, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Ezekiel, Elijah, and Elisha, which brought about the establishment of moral and religious laws that set humanity on a course of needing a savior. Could it be that Jesus Christ was an actual descendant of a flesh-and-blood father named Yahweh, a real-life ancient astronaut? Can a Christian believe in evolution and still be a Christian? Could it be that the ancient alien theory is closer to the truth than any of Earth's religions? Are we truly the product of an extraterrestrial race of giants, created in the image and likeness of them?

Book Secular Nonviolence and the Theo Drama of Peace

Download or read book Secular Nonviolence and the Theo Drama of Peace written by Layton Boyd Friesen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-02-10 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens when a five-century tradition of Christian pacifism no longer needs Jesus to support nonviolence? Why does secularity cause this dilemma for Mennonites in their theology of peace? Layton Boyd Friesen offers an ancient theology and spirituality of incarnation as the church's response to the non-resistance of Christ. He explores three key aspects of von Balthasar's Christology to help Mennonite peace theology regain its momentum in the secular age with a contemplative union with Christ. This volume argues that the way to regain a Christ-formed pacifism within secularity is to contemplate and enter the mystery unveiled in the Chalcedonian Definition of Christ, as interpreted by Hans Urs von Balthasar. In this mystery, the believer is drawn into real-time participation in Christ's encounter with the secular world.

Book The Righteous Shall Never be Removed

Download or read book The Righteous Shall Never be Removed written by Pastor Bill Madison and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title The Righteous Shall Never Be Removed was derived from the scripture found in Proverbs 10:30. There are many teachings on the land that proclaim that the Lord Jesus will, at some point, return to earth and call all the righteous Christians out of the earth and take them to heaven. This book is not in any way trying to change the doctrine or teaching of any group or church organization, but through the author's many years of study and research, along with countless hours of prayer, he has not yet found this type of teaching in the scriptures. It is the author's sincere prayer that this book and its title would, in some way, give the readers another avenue of prayer-or, at least, open their hearts to seek the face of the Lord for the answer to whether or not the teaching they believe in is true. The book or its title is not designed to make anyone believe the words written therein, but, rather, to take a second look at what they believe. As a pastor, Bill always tells the congregation not to believe anything he says but to take what he says before the Lord and ask him whether or not what he has spoken is true. First Timothy 2:4 states that God's will is that all men be saved and that all men come into the knowledge of the truth. The truth is not found behind the pulpit, the truth is not found in the sons of men, but the truth is only found in God himself. It is Bill's prayer that someday all men will stop seeking the hearts of men and start seeking God for the truth.
