Book Identification and Control of Sheet and Film Processes

Download or read book Identification and Control of Sheet and Film Processes written by Andrew P. Featherstone and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sheet and film processes include coating, papermaking, metal rolling, and polymer film extrusion. Products produced by these processes include paper, bumper stickers, plastic bags, windshield safety glass, and sheet metal. The total capitalization of industries that rely on these processes is well over $ 500 billion worldwide. These processes are notorious for being difficult to control. The goal of this book is to present the theoretical background and practical techniques for the identification and control of sheet and film processes. It is explained why many existing industrial control systems perform poorly for sheet and film processes. Identification and control algorithms are described and illustrated which provide consistent and reliable product quality. These algorithms include an experimental design technique that ensures that informative data are collected during input-output experimentation, model identification techniques that produce a process model and an estimate of its accuracy, and control techniques that take into account actuator constraints as well as robustness to model uncertainties. The algorithms covered in this book are truly the state of the art. Variations on some of the algorithms have been implemented on industrial sheet and film processes. Other algorithms are in various stages of implementation. All of the algorithms have been applied to realistic simulation models constructed from industrial plant data; many of these studies are included in this book.

Book Robust Control

Download or read book Robust Control written by Jürgen Ackermann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many plants have large variations in operating conditions. To ensure smooth running it is essential to find a simple fixed gain controller that guarantees rapidly decaying and well-damped transients for all admissible operating conditions. Robust Control presents design tools, developed by the authors, for the solution of this design problem. Examples of simple and complex cases such as a crane, a flight control problem and the automatic and active four-wheel steering of a car illustrate the use of these tools. This book is intended for anyone who has taken an undergraduate course in feedback control systems and who seeks an advanced treatment of robust control with applications. Drawing on the resources and authoritative research of a leading aerospace institute, it will mainly be of interest to mechanical and electrical engineers in universities, institutes and industrial research centres.

Book Robust and Optimal Control

Download or read book Robust and Optimal Control written by Mi-Ching Tsai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Two-port Framework for Robust and Optimal Control introduces an alternative approach to robust and optimal controller synthesis procedures for linear, time-invariant systems, based on the two-port system widespread in electrical engineering. The novel use of the two-port system in this context allows straightforward engineering-oriented solution-finding procedures to be developed, requiring no mathematics beyond linear algebra. A chain-scattering description provides a unified framework for constructing the stabilizing controller set and for synthesizing H2 optimal and H∞ sub-optimal controllers. Simple yet illustrative examples explain each step. A Two-port Framework for Robust and Optimal Control features: · a hands-on, tutorial-style presentation giving the reader the opportunity to repeat the designs presented and easily to modify them for their own programs; · an abundance of examples illustrating the most important steps in robust and optimal design; and · end-of-chapter exercises. To further demonstrate the proposed approaches, in the last chapter an application case study is presented which demonstrates the use of the framework in a real-world control system design and helps the reader quickly move on with their own challenges. MATLAB® codes used in examples throughout the book and solutions to selected exercise questions are available for download. The text will have particular resonance for researchers in control with an electrical engineering background, who wish to avoid spending excessive time in learning complex mathematical, theoretical developments but need to know how to deal with robust and optimal control synthesis problems. Please see [http://km.emotors.ncku.edu.tw/class/hw1.html] for solutions to the exercises provided in this book.

Book Control Problems in Industry

Download or read book Control Problems in Industry written by Irene Lasiecka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-11 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a collection of papers presented at the Symposium on Control Problems in Industry, held on July 22-23, 1994 in San Diego. The Symposium, conducted by the Society for Industrial and Applied Math ematics (SIAM), with the cooperation of the Institut National Recherche Informatique et Automatique (INRIA) , focused on industrial control ap plications that have benefited from recent mathematical and technological developments. A partial list of themes featured by the Symposium is listed below. 1) Applications of Control Techniques in a) the aerospace industry, b) the automotive industry, c) the environmental science, d) manufacturing processes, e) the petroleum industry. 2) Optimal Shape Design in Aerospace Applications 3) Optimal Design of Micro-optics 4) Robust Control and H-infinity Methods The purpose of this meeting was to bring together experts from in dustry and academia to share their experience and present new results and new trends in modern control theory, with a focus on real industrial applications. The presentations were selected primarily for the practical significance of the problem solved, though all had significant mathemati cal components. Control theory is an interdisciplinary field which, in its broadest sense, encompasses contributions ranging from classical engineer ing disciplines (circuit theory, automata theory, electronics, manufacturing, mechanical engineering, material science), to theoretical engineering (sys tem theory, computer science) and various areas of mathematics such as ODE, PDE, complex analysis, function theory, algebraic and differential geometry, numerical analysis, etc.
