Download or read book Globalization and the Transformation of Foreign Economic Policy written by Dr Pawel Bozyk and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The onslaught of globalization has brought with it sweeping changes to the foreign economic policy of the last 50 years. As the international political economy of nations and regions continues to be drawn and redrawn, this book traces the goals and instruments of foreign economic policy during this period, providing insight into the long-run trends and developing new theoretical generalizations. The book charts the journey from the point when foreign economic policy was solely concerned with foreign trade - pursued to promote the interests of individual countries - to the current globalization of the world economy that creates a uniform market in goods, services and factors of production that embrace all countries and regions.

Book Islam the Middle East and the New Global Hegemony

Download or read book Islam the Middle East and the New Global Hegemony written by Simon Murden and published by Lynne Rienner Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Murden (strategic studies and international affairs, Britannia Royal Naval College) examines how the "remorseless march of the globalized Western hegemony" is changing Muslim politics and culture and how Muslim peoples are reacting to it. After critically examining the West's cultural discourse about Islam, he discusses the way that U.S. projects military power in the Middle East and looks at varying responses by Muslim states and Islamic activists. Islamic engagement with the global economic order is also explored. The tensions between Islamists and authoritarian secular states is examined with special attention paid to the democratization attempts taking place in Iran. Finally, the possibilities for the Islamic countries to push counterhegemonic plans is negatively evaluated. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Towards an Islamic Theory of International Relations

Download or read book Towards an Islamic Theory of International Relations written by AbdulHamid AbuSulayman and published by International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT). This book was released on 1993 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent events have demonstrated that one of the most important fields of study in this century is world order. The contribution of this book to this field is that it attempts to lay the intellectual foundations for a reconsideration of what constitutes a truly Islamic world order. Perhaps the words of the late Professor Ismail al-Faruqi, in his scholarly introduction to this work, best describes the landmarks of such an order; "The world order of Islam would confer upon every person by virtue of birth and humanity, the ultimate right and honor, namely, the capacity to think and make up one's mind as to which millah one wishes to belong and hence, by which law one desires to order one's life and that of one's dependents."In dealing with his subject, the author has had to return to the sources of Islam, the Qur'an and the Sunnah, and develop a methodology for dealing with them in a creative and practicable manner. In doing so, he examines the methodology developed by the early generations of Muslim scholars and finds it limited by its legalistic approach. Thus, much of the value of his work lies in its discussion of methodology and in the social sciences in general, by means of methodology developed from a purely Islamic perspective.Originally submitted as a doctoral dissertation, and then revised for its publication in 1987 as "The Islamic Theory of International Relations", this edition, retitled "Towards an Islamic Theory of International Relations", has undergone serious editorial revision, and may now be seen to convey the author's pioneering ideas in a way that befits their importance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being Poland offers a unique analysis of the cultural developments that took place in Poland after World War One, a period marked by Poland's return to independence. Conceived to address the lack of critical scholarship on Poland's cultural restoration, Being Poland illuminates the continuities, paradoxes, and contradictions of Poland's modern and contemporary cultural practices, and challenges the narrative typically prescribed to Polish literature and film. Reflecting the radical changes, rifts, and restorations that swept through Poland in this period, Polish literature and film reveal a multitude of perspectives. Addressing romantic perceptions of the Polish immigrant, the politics of post-war cinema, poetry, and mass media, Being Poland is a comprehensive reference work written with the intention of exposing an international audience to the explosion of Polish literature and film that emerged in the twentieth century.

Book Trade Policy and Economic Welfare

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this classic text on international economics includes three completely new chapters on the environment and trade policy, strategic trade policy, and the relationship between trade policy and the exchange rate. The chapters are self-contained to allow flexible use of the book in teaching undergraduate courses on international trade and the economics of developing countries.

Book The Coming Of Post Industrial Society

Download or read book The Coming Of Post Industrial Society written by Daniel Bell and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 1976-07-21 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1976, Daniel Bell's historical work predicted a vastly different society developing—one that will rely on the “economics of information” rather than the “economics of goods.” Bell argued that the new society would not displace the older one but rather overlie some of the previous layers just as the industrial society did not completely eradicate the agrarian sectors of our society. The post-industrial society's dimensions would include the spread of a knowledge class, the change from goods to services and the role of women. All of these would be dependent on the expansion of services in the economic sector and an increasing dependence on science as the means of innovating and organizing technological change.Bell prophetically stated in The Coming of the Post-Industrial Society that we should expect “… new premises and new powers, new constraints and new questions—with the difference that these are now on a scale that had never been previously imagined in world history.”

Book Kidnapping Mountains

Book excerpt: Slavs and Tatars is a multi-artists' collective which is fascinated by the area east of the former Berlin Wall and west of the Great Wall of China. Through their often-playful art they delve into the riches of this cultural crossroads, the romantic sphere of influence between Slavs, Caucasians, and Central Asians. Here they plunge into the fables and myths of the mountainous Caucasus region: the first part addresses the complexity of languages and identities on the fault line of Eurasia, and the second part, slyly titled Steppe by Steppe, explores the region's seemingly reactionary approaches to romance. Whether they're looking at art, fashion, lifestyle or science, Slavs and Tatars bring a new point of view to the table.
