Book Globalisierung Utopie und Literatur

Download or read book Globalisierung Utopie und Literatur written by Hans Ulrich Seeber and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2017 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Health and Happiness of Political Bodies

Download or read book Health and Happiness of Political Bodies written by Hans-Martin Sass and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2020-10 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1926, the German pastor Fritz Jahr in Halle coined the term `Bioethik' and defined a `Bio-Ethical Imperative: Respect every living being as an end in itself and treat it, if possible, as such'. Bioethics since then has grown from medical ethics and social and political strategies to multidisciplinary and integrated disciplines of research and consulting. In 2020, reflecting and mediating the interactive and integrated ecosystems and interactive networks in biology, society, business, technology and communication, I submit a wider integrated biocultural, corporate and political `Bio-Cultural Imperative: Support direct human inter-action and common-sense as an end in itself and use hardware and software tools only in stabilizing healthy and happy cultures in the bodies of ecologies, corporations and politics'. In 1969 a human walked on the moon, in 1989 the Berlin Wall fell down, in 2001 the World Trade Center in New York fell down, in 2020 a global Corona pandemic fell down on people and communities. Biological, political and corporate bodies change, and we change with them and in them: `tempora mutantur et nos mutamur in illis'. (Hans Martin Sass, preface)

Book Topos in Utopia A peregrination to early modern utopianism s space

Download or read book Topos in Utopia A peregrination to early modern utopianism s space written by Sotirios Triantafyllos and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Topos in Utopia' examines early modern literary utopias' and intentional communities' social and cultural conception of space. Starting from Thomas More's seminal work, published in 1516, and covering a period of three centuries until the emergence of Enlightenment's euchronia, this work provides a thorough yet concise examination of the way space was imagined and utilised in the early modern visions of a better society. Dealing with an aspect usually ignored by the scholars of early modern utopianism, this book asks us to consider if utopias' imaginary lands are based not only on abstract ideas but also on concrete spaces. Shedding new light on a period where reformation zeal, humanism's optimism, colonialism's greed and a proto-scientific discourse were combined to produce a series of alternative social and political paradigms, this work transports us from the shores of America to the search for the Terra Australis Incognita and the desire to find a new and better world for us.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Thomas More s Utopia

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Thomas More s Utopia written by and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas More's Utopia is one of the most iconic, translated, and influential texts of the European Renaissance. This Handbook of specially commissioned and original essays brings together for the first time three different ways of thinking about the book: in terms of its renaissance contexts, its vernacular translations, and its utopian legacies. It has been developed to allow readers to consider these different facets of Utopia in relation to each other and to provide fresh and original contributions to our understanding of the book's creation, vernacularization, and afterlives. In so doing, it provides an integrated overview of More's text, as well as new contributions to the range of scholarship and debates that Utopia continues to attract. An especially innovative feature is that it allows readers to follow Utopia across time and place, unpacking the often-revolutionary moments that encouraged its translation by new generations of writers as far afield as France, Russia, Japan, and China. The Handbook is organized in four sections: on different aspects of the origins and contexts of Utopia in the 1510s; on histories of its translation into different vernaculars in the early modern and modern eras; and on various manifestations of utopianism up to the present day. The Handbook's Introduction outlines the biography of More, the key strands of interpretation and criticism relating to the text, the structure of the Handbook, and some of its recurring themes and issues. An appendix provides an overview of Utopia for readers new to the text.

Book From Natural Law to Political Economy J H G von Justi on State Commerce and International Order

Download or read book From Natural Law to Political Economy J H G von Justi on State Commerce and International Order written by Ere Nokkala and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2019-03-18 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive interpretation of the political and international thought of one of the greatest German political writers of the eighteenth-century, Johann Heinrich Gottlob von Justi (1717-1771). By revisiting his conceptions of natural law, happiness, the state, universal monarchy, the balance of power and international order the study reveals a much more original and diverse thinker than has previously been assumed. Building on ideas of a passionate human nature, Justi effected a passage from natural law to political economy that took into account the development of commercialism. The book firmly situates Justi in the German Enlightenment, and the German Enlightenment in a broader European context.

Download or read book Figuren des Globalen written by Christian Moser and published by V&R unipress GmbH. This book was released on 2014 with total page 746 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book German Literature as World Literature

Download or read book German Literature as World Literature written by Thomas O. Beebee and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new collection investigates German literature in its international dimensions. While no single volume can deal comprehensively with such a vast topic, the nine contributors cover a wide historical range, with a variety of approaches and authors represented. Together, the essays begin to adumbrate the systematic nature of the relations between German national literature and world literature as these have developed through institutions, cultural networks, and individual authors. In the last two decades, discussions of world literature?literature that resonates beyond its original linguistic and cultural contexts?have come increasingly to the forefront of theoretical investigations of literature. One reason for the explosion of world literature theory, pedagogy and methodology is the difficulty of accomplishing either world literature criticism, or world literary history. The capaciousness, as well as the polylingual and multicultural features of world literature present formidable obstacles to its study, and call for a collaborative approach that conjoins a variety of expertise. To that end, this collection contributes to the critical study of world literature in its textual, institutional, and translatorial reality, while at the same time highlighting a question that has hitherto received insufficient scholarly attention: what is the relation between national and world literatures, or, more specifically, in what senses do national literatures systematically participate in (or resist) world literature?

Book German Literature in the Age of Globalisation

Download or read book German Literature in the Age of Globalisation written by Stuart Taberner and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2004-11-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Literary fiction in Germany has long been a medium for contemplation of the 'nation' and questions of national identity. From the mid-1990s, in the wake of heated debates on the future direction of culture, politics and society in a more 'normal', united country, German literature has become increasingly diverse and seemingly disparate - at the one extreme, it represents the attempt to 'reinvent' German traditions, at the other, the unmistakable influence of Anglo-American forms and pop literature. A shared concern of almost all of recent German fiction, however, is the contemporary debate on globalisation, its nature, impact and consequences for 'local culture'. In its engagement with globalisation the literature of the Berlin Republic continues the long-established practice of reflection on what it is to be 'German'. This book investigates literary responses to the phenomenon of globalisation. The subject is approached from a wide range of thematic and theoretical perspectives in twelve chapters which, taken together, also provide an overview of German fiction from the mid-1990s to the present. The book serves both as an introduction to contemporary German literature for university students of German and as a resource for scholars interested in culture and society in the Berlin Republic.
