Book Stability Of Gyroscopic Systems

Download or read book Stability Of Gyroscopic Systems written by Ardeshir Guran and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-04-01 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The motion of mechanical systems undergoing rotation about a fixed axis has been the subject of extensive studies over a few centuries. These systems are generally subject to gyroscopic forces which are associated with coriolis accelerations or mass transport and render complex dynamics. The unifying theme among topics presented in this book is the gyroscopic nature of the system equations of motion. The book represents comprehensive and detailed reviews of the state of art in four diverse application areas: flow-induced oscillations in structures, oscillations in rotating systems or rotor dynamics, dynamics of axially moving material systems, and dynamics of gyroelastic systems. The book also includes a chapter on dynamics of repetitive structures. These systems feature spatial periodicity and are generally subject to considerable gyroscopic forces. “Gyroelastic systems” and “repetitive structures” are the topics with very recent origins and are still in their infancies compared to the other examples represented in this book. Thus, the contributions on gyroelastic systems and repetitive structures are limited to only modeling, localization and linear stability analysis results. This book covers many important aspects of recent developments in various types of gyroscopic systems. Thus, at last, a comprehensive book is made available to serve as a supplement and resource for any graduate level course on elastic gyroscopic systems, as well as for a course covering the stability of mechanical systems. Moreover, the inclusion of an up-to-date bibliography attached to each chapter will make this book an invaluable text for professional reference.

Book Global Controllability and Stabilization of Nonlinear Systems

Download or read book Global Controllability and Stabilization of Nonlinear Systems written by Sergey Nikitin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to provide a self-contained, complete and geometrically clear presentation of the recent results on global controllability and stabilization. It contains many pictures and exercises so as to develop a geometrical control intuition and inspire the reader to think independently. The material presented is organized such that for Part I, it is only assumed that the reader has mastered the very basic notions of ordinary differential equation theory, general topology and analytic geometry. For Part II, the reader is assumed to be familiar with the elements of differential geometry.

Book Nonlinear Dynamics of Parametrically Excited Gyroscopic Systems

Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamics of Parametrically Excited Gyroscopic Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this project is to determine how some of the powerful geometric methods of dynamical systems can be applied to study nonlinear gyroscopic systems. We proposed to develop techniques to predict local and global behavior and instability mechanisms and to analyze the interactions between noise, stability, and nonlinearities inherent in gyroscopic systems. In order to obtain these results we use the method of normal forms, global bifurcation techniques, and various other dynamical systems tools.

Book Partial Stability and Control

Download or read book Partial Stability and Control written by V.I. Vorotnikov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike the conventional research for the general theory of stability, this mono graph deals with problems on stability and stabilization of dynamic systems with respect not to all but just to a given part of the variables characterizing these systems. Such problems are often referred to as the problems of partial stability (stabilization). They naturally arise in applications either from the requirement of proper performance of a system or in assessing system capa bility. In addition, a lot of actual (or desired) phenomena can be formulated in terms of these problems and be analyzed with these problems taken as the basis. The following multiaspect phenomena and problems can be indicated: • "Lotka-Volterra ecological principle of extinction;" • focusing and acceleration of particles in electromagnetic fields; • "drift" of the gyroscope axis; • stabilization of a spacecraft by specially arranged relative motion of rotors connected to it. Also very effective is the approach to the problem of stability (stabilization) with respect to all the variables based on preliminary analysis of partial sta bility (stabilization). A. M. Lyapunov, the founder of the modern theory of stability, was the first to formulate the problem of partial stability. Later, works by V. V. Rumyan tsev drew the attention of many mathematicians and mechanicians around the world to this problem, which resulted in its being intensively worked out. The method of Lyapunov functions became the key investigative method which turned out to be very effective in analyzing both theoretic and applied problems.

Book Stabilization Synchronization and Tracking of Nonlinear Systems by Feedback Domination Approach

Download or read book Stabilization Synchronization and Tracking of Nonlinear Systems by Feedback Domination Approach written by Song Yan and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation presents a series of fundamental and challenging control problems and their solutions for nonlinear systems, including global stabilization for a class of upper-triangular nonlinear systems, global asymptotic synchronization via sampled-data feedback, finite-time control for synchronization and bounded tracking of a variable-speed wind turbine nonlinear system. The problem of global stabilization for a class of upper-triangular nonlinear systems is first discussed in this dissertation. We focus on the nonlinear systems whose linearization around the origin can and cannot be guaranteed to be controllable, respectively and a variety of nonlinearity growth rates which depend on the input are considered. Based on adding a power integrator technique and the homogeneous domination design, the state-feedback controller is recursively constructed such that the closed-loop systems are globally asymptotically stable. We also investigate the problem of using sampled-data feedback to synchronize a slave (driven) system with a master (driver) system. Based on the domination approach, both state-feedback and output-feedback control methods using sampled-data are proposed to make the tracking error converge to zero. This issue is of practical importance since in practice the system state is transmitted as sampled signal, and very often only the output is measurable. The problem of finite-time synchronization is also discussed where a homogeneous nonlinear controller is designed to make the tracking error converge to zero in a finite time. In addition, the finite-time control technique is applied to solve the tracking problem of a variable-speed wind turbine system. A finite-time nonlinear tracking controller has been designed for an obtained variable-speed wind turbine model to achieve finite-time asymptotic tracking control for reference rotor speed signals, in order to capture maximum wind power in the operational mode. The proposed scheme relies on Barrier Lyapunov Functions, with which the output of closed-loop system will remain bounded under a mild condition on the initial output. The comparison between the designed controller and traditional finite-time controller which is based on Quadratic Lyapunov Functions is presented.

Book Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics

Download or read book Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics written by K.J. Bathe and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-05-21 with total page 975 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MIT mission - "to bring together Industry and Academia and to nurture the next generation in computational mechanics is of great importance to reach the new level of mathematical modeling and numerical solution and to provide an exciting research environment for the next generation in computational mechanics." Mathematical modeling and numerical solution is today firmly established in science and engineering. Research conducted in almost all branches of scientific investigations and the design of systems in practically all disciplines of engineering can not be pursued effectively without, frequently, intensive analysis based on numerical computations. The world we live in has been classified by the human mind, for descriptive and analysis purposes, to consist of fluids and solids, continua and molecules; and the analyses of fluids and solids at the continuum and molecular scales have traditionally been pursued separately. Fundamentally, however, there are only molecules and particles for any material that interact on the microscopic and macroscopic scales. Therefore, to unify the analysis of physical systems and to reach a deeper understanding of the behavior of nature in scientific investigations, and of the behavior of designs in engineering endeavors, a new level of analysis is necessary. This new level of mathematical modeling and numerical solution does not merely involve the analysis of a single medium but must encompass the solution of multi-physics problems involving fluids, solids, and their interactions, involving multi-scale phenomena from the molecular to the macroscopic scales, and must include uncertainties in the given data and the solution results. Nature does not distinguish between fluids and solids and does not ever repeat itself exactly. This new level of analysis must also include, in engineering, the effective optimization of systems, and the modeling and analysis of complete life spans of engineering products, from design to fabrication, to possibly multiple repairs, to end of service.
