This book was released on 2017-11-05 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was created in 1958, its founding legislation-the National Aeronautics and Space Act-directed the new Agency to pursue cooperation "with other nations and groups of nations." This principle of international cooperation has been a guiding philosophy for NASA, and it has never been more important than it is today. Such collaboration will be essential to addressing the inherently global and interrelated scientific challenges that will face us in the years ahead: expanding human exploration beyond the frontiers of low-Earth orbit; broadening human knowledge by answering profound questions about the Earth and the universe we live in; solving technical issues related to air traffic management, aviation safety, and the impact of aviation on climate and the environment; and leveraging technology investments to push the boundaries of innovation. Through the pages of this publication, learn more about NASA's continuing international partnerships. These examples will provide you with a sense of the breadth of NASA's cooperation with other nations, as well as the accompanying benefits that such cooperation has always yielded.

Book National Aeronautics and Space Act

Download or read book National Aeronautics and Space Act written by Тhe United States Congress and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-04-11 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 is the United States federal statute that created the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Act, which followed close on the heels of the Soviet Union's launch of Sputnik, was drafted by the United States House Select Committee on Astronautics and Space Exploration and on July 29, 1958 was signed by President Eisenhower. Prior to enactment, the responsibility for space exploration was deemed primarily a military venture, in line with the Soviet model that had launched the first orbital satellite. In large measure, the Act was prompted by the lack of response by a US military infrastructure that seemed incapable of keeping up the space race.

Book Approaches to Future Space Cooperation and Competition in a Globalizing World

Download or read book Approaches to Future Space Cooperation and Competition in a Globalizing World written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-07-23 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous countries and regions now have very active space programs, and the number is increasing. These maturing capabilities around the world create a plethora of potential partners for cooperative space endeavors, while at the same time heightening competitiveness in the international space arena. This book summarizes a public workshop held in November 2008 for the purpose of reviewing past and present cooperation, coordination, and competition mechanisms for space and Earth science research and space exploration; identifying significant lessons learned; and discussing how those lessons could best be applied in the future, particularly in the areas of cooperation and collaboration. Presentations and initial discussion focused on past and present experiences in international cooperation and competition to identify "lessons learned." Those lessons learned were then used as the starting point for subsequent discussions on the most effective ways for structuring future cooperation or coordination in space and Earth science research and space exploration. The goal of the workshop was not to develop a specific model for future cooperation or coordination, but rather to explore the advantages and disadvantages of various approaches and stimulate further deliberation on this important topic.
