Why are Nokia's lessons critical for other companies and industries? While multinationals based in large countries benefit from inherent advantages--such as a home base that often accounts for 30 to 50 percent of their revenues--multinationals based in smaller countries such as Nokia, enjoy no such competitive edge. Nokia, in fact, generates less than 1% of its revenues in its home base. To such a company, global competitiveness is a matter of life and death. With unparalleled access to Nokia's leadership, Winning Across Global Markets reveals the remarkable story of Nokia's resilience and endurance. Shows how Nokia's flexibility and focus on its people and local markets drive its distinct global approach. Includes exclusive interviews with Nokia's senior executives and key partners Provides a roadmap for developing, capturing, and sustaining global advantage This book provides a roadmap for developing, capturing, and sustaining strategic global advantage in today's ever-changing world.

Book The Dynamics of M A Strategy

Download or read book The Dynamics of M A Strategy written by Björn B. Schmidt and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China's banking sector has witnessed significant inbound M&A traffic by developed market banks in recent years. At the same time, Chinese banks have risen to become some of the world's biggest banks. Along with these massive market values and financing capabilities have come global ambitions culminating in first outbound M&A moves. This study exploratively researches the relationship between developed market banks' inbound M&A into China and Chinese banks' outbound M&A. Based on a conceptual discussion, case studies and expert interviews an explanation model is developed outlining the drivers and barriers of Chinese banks' outbound M&A and the factors in the inbound-outbound relationship. This model enables developed market banks to analyse potential M&A reactions by incumbents. Finally, dynamic M&A market entry strategies are derived, which explicitly account for future incumbent outbound M&A moves.

Book Organizational Learning and Knowledge Technologies in a Dynamic Environment

Download or read book Organizational Learning and Knowledge Technologies in a Dynamic Environment written by Walter R.J. Baets and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am not a born academic. I deliberately joined the ranks of academia at a fairly late stage as a natural progression from my professional career as an executive in what in those days was known as "decision support". My career had begun in the telecom industry before the days of deregulation in what one would call strategic planning and then I moved on to decision support in the field of banking, developing trading room software and risk management systems. As I developed decision support systems for real applications, the more I realized how very dependent these systems are on decision design. I began to question a number of basic business assumptions. I felt increasingly the need to review the way decision support systems were conceived at the time since they not only limited what one could do with computers, but also limited the decision-making capacity of executives. I thus decided to take time out from my professional obligations in order to be able to investigate the 'whys and wherefores' behind decision-making. I experienced yet another disappointment at the beginning of my academic career as I noted the academic research style prevailing in most Business Schools. The academic community was adhering to a type of research methodology based on a single view of the way humans think.
