This book was released on 2022-03-23 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Genomic Surveillance Strategy for Pathogens with Pandemic and Epidemic Potential 2022-2032 provides a high-level unifying framework to leverage existing capacities, address barriers and strengthen the use of genomic surveillance in the detection, monitoring and response to public health threats. Genomic surveillance is part of the broader surveillance and laboratory system, and its implementation should reinforce end-to-end capacities including sample collection, diagnostics, data sharing and analysis. The strategy aims to facilitate the connectivity between different disease control programs and surveillance networks. This interoperability will strengthen the cross-cutting essential public health laboratory functions underpinning genomics holistically. The strategy articulates the overarching goal, objectives and strategic actions needed. These are dependent on commitments from countries, partners and WHO for their implementation.

Book Genomic Surveillance and Pandemic Preparedness

Download or read book Genomic Surveillance and Pandemic Preparedness written by Rajesh Pandey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-06-29 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genomic Surveillance and Pandemic Preparedness offers practical, in-depth instruction in where, how, and why genomic surveillance may be applied. Drawing heavily from the learnings during the COVID-19 pandemic, this book covers different aspects of microbes with a focus on viral genome sequencing and analysis, implementation and inference of genomic surveillance, and global data sharing best practices for future pandemic preparedness. Here, more than a dozen international authors consider host and pathogen genome interaction, population-level prevalence, individual disease susceptibility and gene protection, pathogen mutation evolutionary dynamics, RNA modulation of infection, pathogen diversity, and the role of coinfections and comorbidities in disease severity. A wide range of examples, from bacterial pathogens to fungal and viral infections, with an emphasis on recent COVID-19 analysis, are discussed. Finally, the authors provide step-by-step instruction in experimental and computational approaches for genomic surveillance, including nucleic acid isolation, sequencing library preparation, functional sequencing analysis, and bioinformatics pipelines. Throughout this book, importance is placed on inference—moving from genomic sequencing to meaningful genomic surveillance that bolsters pandemic preparedness. Highlights different aspects of genomic surveillance, from theory to implementation to inferences Covers a broad range of infectious diseases, with emphasis on recent COVID-19 studies Shares methods and approaches for sequencing-based pathogen detection, diagnostics, and surveillance Facilitates international collaboration in drug and vaccine development

Book Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework

Download or read book Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2023-04-18 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The PIP Framework is a broad-based partnership to improve global pandemic influenza preparedness and response. The Framework, which grew out of the re-emergence of A(H5N1) influenza in 2004, was adopted by WHO’s 194 Member States at the World Health Assembly on 24 May 2011. Section 6.14.3 of the Framework establishes an annual Partnership Contribution (“PC”) to be paid by influenza vaccine, diagnostic and pharmaceutical manufacturers using the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS). Resources contributed are to be used to strengthen pandemic influenza preparedness and response. WHO has published two prior high-level implementation plans to outline the use of the PC preparedness funds. In order to continue the strategic use of the PC funds, this document will build upon the gains made in the implementation of the previous two plans, take into account lessons from COVID-19 and take into consideration the evolving global landscape for pandemic and epidemic preparedness. The document will enable stakeholders to see at a high level, the approach for use of PC funds and priority areas for capacity-building for the period 2024-2030. The document will describe the current context, layout a results hierarchy and define the project management processes that are key for successful implementation.

Book Defining collaborative surveillance a core concept for strengthening the global architecture for health emergency preparedness response and resilience HEPR

Download or read book Defining collaborative surveillance a core concept for strengthening the global architecture for health emergency preparedness response and resilience HEPR written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2023-05-22 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complex challenges highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic and other major health emergencies emphasize the need to rethink our approach to surveillance, while building upon the momentum of substantive investments in public health capacity in recent years. At the 75th World Health Assembly in May 2022, WHO set out a harmonizing framework to strengthen the global architecture for health emergency preparedness, response, and resilience (HEPR). Under the proposed global architecture, the ability to effectively prevent, prepare for, detect, respond to, and recover from health emergencies at subnational, national, regional and global levels depend on the operational readiness and capacities in five interconnected systems: collaborative surveillance, community protection, safe and scalable clinical care, access to countermeasures, and emergency coordination. This document defines the collaborative surveillance concept—proposing a conceptual model, dimensions across which collaboration should occur to enable multi-source and multisectoral surveillance, key objectives and concrete capabilities for how countries, with the support of WHO and partners, can further advance surveillance capabilities, and address fragmented and insufficient capacity. The collaborative surveillance concept was developed to support all stakeholders working on surveillance.
