This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph describes global propagation of regular nonlinear hyperbolic waves described by first-order quasilinear hyperbolic systems in one dimension. The exposition is clear, concise, and unfolds systematically beginning with introductory material and leading to the original research of the authors. Topics are motivated with a number of physical examples from the areas of elastic materials, one-dimensional gas dynamics, and waves. Aimed at researchers and graduate students in partial differential equations and related topics, this book will stimulate further research and help readers further understand important aspects and recent progress of regular nonlinear hyperbolic waves.

Book Partial Differential Equations in China

Download or read book Partial Differential Equations in China written by Chaohao Gu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past few years there has been a fruitful exchange of expertise on the subject of partial differential equations (PDEs) between mathematicians from the People's Republic of China and the rest of the world. The goal of this collection of papers is to summarize and introduce the historical progress of the development of PDEs in China from the 1950s to the 1980s. The results presented here were mainly published before the 1980s, but, having been printed in the Chinese language, have not reached the wider audience they deserve. Topics covered include, among others, nonlinear hyperbolic equations, nonlinear elliptic equations, nonlinear parabolic equations, mixed equations, free boundary problems, minimal surfaces in Riemannian manifolds, microlocal analysis and solitons. For mathematicians and physicists interested in the historical development of PDEs in the People's Republic of China.

Book Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems

Download or read book Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems written by Claude Carasso and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of nonlinear hyperbolic problems has been expanding very fast over the past few years, and has applications - actual and potential - in aerodynamics, multifluid flows, combustion, detonics amongst other. The difficulties that arise in application are of theoretical as well as numerical nature. In fact, the papers in this volume of proceedings deal to a greater extent with theoretical problems emerging in the resolution of nonlinear hyperbolic systems than with numerical methods. The volume provides an excellent up-to-date review of the current research trends in this area.

Book Hyperbolic Problems Theory Numerics Applications

Download or read book Hyperbolic Problems Theory Numerics Applications written by Thomas Y. Hou and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 946 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference on "Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics and Applications'' was held in CalTech on March 25-30, 2002. The conference was the ninth meeting in the bi-annual international series which became one of the highest quality and most successful conference series in Applied mathematics. This volume contains more than 90 contributions presented in this conference, including plenary presentations by A. Bressan, P. Degond, R. LeVeque, T.-P. Liu, B. Perthame, C.-W. Shu, B. Sjögreen and S. Ukai. Reflecting the objective of series, the contributions in this volume keep the traditional blend of theory, numerics and applications. The Hyp2002 meeting placed a particular emphasize on fundamental theory and numerical analysis, on multi-scale analysis, modeling and simulations, and on geophysical applications and free boundary problems arising from materials science and multi-component fluid dynamics. The volume should appeal to researchers, students and practitioners with general interest in time-dependent problems governed by hyperbolic equations.

Book Multi dimensional Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Multi dimensional Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations written by Sylvie Benzoni-Gavage and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2007 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authored by leading scholars, this comprehensive text presents a view of the multi-dimensional hyperbolic partial differential equations, with a particular emphasis on problems in which modern tools of analysis have proved useful. It is useful to graduates and researchers in both hyperbolic PDEs and compressible fluid dynamics.

Book Exact Boundary Controllability of Nodal Profile for Quasilinear Hyperbolic Systems

Download or read book Exact Boundary Controllability of Nodal Profile for Quasilinear Hyperbolic Systems written by Tatsien Li and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-08 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the exact boundary controllability of nodal profile, a new kind of exact boundary controllability stimulated by some practical applications. This kind of controllability is useful in practice as it does not require any precisely given final state to be attained at a suitable time t=T by means of boundary controls, instead it requires the state to exactly fit any given demand (profile) on one or more nodes after a suitable time t=T by means of boundary controls. In this book we present a general discussion of this kind of controllability for general 1-D first order quasilinear hyperbolic systems and for general 1-D quasilinear wave equations on an interval as well as on a tree-like network using a modular-structure construtive method, suggested in LI Tatsien's monograph "Controllability and Observability for Quasilinear Hyperbolic Systems"(2010), and we establish a complete theory on the local exact boundary controllability of nodal profile for 1-D quasilinear hyperbolic systems.

Book Variational Approach to Hyperbolic Free Boundary Problems

Download or read book Variational Approach to Hyperbolic Free Boundary Problems written by Seiro Omata and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-28 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is devoted to the study of hyperbolic free boundary problems possessing variational structure. Such problems can be used to model, among others, oscillatory motion of a droplet on a surface or bouncing of an elastic body against a rigid obstacle. In the case of the droplet, for example, the membrane surrounding the fluid in general forms a positive contact angle with the obstacle, and therefore the second derivative is only a measure at the contact free boundary set. We will show how to derive the mathematical problem for a few physical systems starting from the action functional, discuss the mathematical theory, and introduce methods for its numerical solution. The mathematical theory and numerical methods depart from the classical approaches in that they are based on semi-discretization in time, which facilitates the application of the modern theory of calculus of variations.

Book Some Problems On Nonlinear Hyperbolic Equations And Applications

Download or read book Some Problems On Nonlinear Hyperbolic Equations And Applications written by Tatsien Li and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-09-21 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is composed of two parts: Mathematical and Numerical Analysis for Strongly Nonlinear Plasma Models and Exact Controllability and Observability for Quasilinear Hyperbolic Systems and Applications. It presents recent progress and results obtained in the domains related to both subjects without attaching much importance to the details of proofs but rather to difficulties encountered, to open problems and possible ways to be exploited. It will be very useful for promoting further study on some important problems in the future.
