Download or read book Intercultural Experience in Narrative written by Michał Wilczewski and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book systematically investigates intercultural experiences of Polish managers and specialists delegated by their multinational company (MNC) on an international assignment to China. The book employs narrative inquiry to explore language, intercultural communication, collaboration, learning, and expatriate adjustment in the MNC. This approach offers new insights into intercultural experiences, communication, and cultural challenges faced by an under-researched group of professionals exposed to intensive collaborations with the local managers and employees. The findings also illustrate how the expatriates learned to better navigate the multicultural and multilingual business context and what factors facilitated and inhibited their learning and adjustment. Encouraging the qualitative, context-sensitive examination of expatriate-local personnel interactions, the book will be an invaluable source for scholars and practitioners interested in, among others, novel approaches to investigating language and intercultural communication in international business, cross-cultural management, qualitative cross-cultural research, as well as for lecturers and students interested in Central Europe and China.

As part of its extensive publishing program, ISTE will be releasing in July 2016 The Global Educator: Leveraging Technology for Collaborative Learning & Teaching by Julie Lindsay. In The Global Educator, Lindsay illustrates the need for intercultural understanding and collaboration to personalize learning, achieve curriculum objectives and bring the world to our students by answering these key questions: How imperative is it that educators connect themselves and their classrooms to the world? What emerging education leadership styles are shifting pedagogy and why should we be taking notice of this? What are the essential benefits of embedding online global collaboration into the curriculum? What are simple steps that educators in the classroom can take to become more globally minded and start to change their practice? How are emerging digital technologies supporting this move to online global learning and collaboration? In addition to answering these questions, the book provides practical resources and powerful case studies from educators and education leaders in the United States and throughout the world who are forging connections across the globe, embedding these practices into current curriculum objectives and providing their students with invaluable educational experiences, including: — more — Yvonne Marie Andres, a California-based global collaboration expert and co-founder of Global SchoolNet, which has been at the forefront of telecommunication-based learning. Librarian and media specialist Toni Olivieri-Barton, based in Colorado, has participated in and led many online global projects across K-12 levels. She was the runner-up for an ISTE Online Learning Network Award for creating opportunities for online independent studies at the middle school and high school levels. And Anne Mirtschin, an award-winning teacher in Australia, finds and designs opportunities for her students and fellow teachers and brings rich learning activities to the classroom. Global collaboration has changed the learning ecology of her school and had a positive impact on her students. For educators and curriculum developers, The Global Educator is an invaluable resource to support and nurture a global learning experience for children and students everywhere.

Book Global Mindsets

Download or read book Global Mindsets written by John Kuada and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-28 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global Mindsets seeks to tackle a topic that is relatively new in research and practice, and is considered by many to be critical for firms seeking to conduct global business. It argues that multiple mindsets exist (across and within organizations), that they operate in a global context, and that they are dynamic and undergo change and action. Part of the mindset(s) may depend upon place, situation and context where individuals and organizations operate. The book examines the notion of "mindset" is situational and dynamic, especially in a global setting, why it is important for future scholars and managers and how it could be conceptualized. The book includes conceptual chapters that push the current boundaries of research on the topic and empirical chapters that demonstrate how different organizations in different countries apply mindset perspectives in their management practices. It seeks to help academics, consultants, and researchers understand what has been said and studied about global mindsets in action and gain insights into possible directions and challenges that the field may face in the future.

Book Intercultural Transfer of Management Practices of German MNC to Brazil

Download or read book Intercultural Transfer of Management Practices of German MNC to Brazil written by Madeleine Bausch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-07-14 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multinational companies transfer managerial practices such as quality management globally. Studies from different perspectives have examined cultural, institutional, and organizational challenges in practice transfer, however, little is known about the micro-processes of intercultural transfer, especially in complex cultural settings as Brazil. Integrating the recontextualization perspective and Scandinavian institutionalist transfer-as-translation approach, this book explores micro-processes of transfer from German MNC to Brazilian subsidiaries from a multiple cultures perspective. Findings show the complementary nature of micro-processes of translation and recontextualization, embedding them into a process model of four stages: Preparation, translation, recontextualization, and institutionalization. Intercultural transfer can be considered an iterative and multi-level process in which practices diffuse from individuals, to teams, to the organization. The book contributes to international management by cross-fertilizing the two approaches, by highlighting cultural and institutional particularities of the Brazilian context using a culturally sensitive methodology, and by showing the transformative power of managerial practices on organizations and ecosystems.

Book Researching English Medium Higher Education

Download or read book Researching English Medium Higher Education written by Emma Dafouz and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-02-14 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set against the increasing use of English-medium higher education across the world, this book brings together researchers and practitioners who, despite coming from very different geopolitical areas and pursuing distinct research objectives, coincide in their use of the ROAD-MAPPING conceptual framework. With the use of this framework and its six interrelated dimensions, the nine studies included in this volume explore key topics for English-Medium Education in Multilingual University Settings (EMEMUS) from diverse perspectives. These range from multi-sited, meta-level approaches critically analysing different countries and their realisations of EMEMUS to using ROAD-MAPPING as a methodological tool to analyse all its dimensions or place the lens on a particular aspect. By doing so, the contributions demonstrate the strength of the ROAD-MAPPING framework for investigating and understanding the complex nature of EMEMUS. The volume makes a valuable contribution to the development of EMEMUS research and is thus highly recommended for scholars, policymakers and students interested in one of the most fast-growing (and contested) research areas in applied linguistics today.
