Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science, Technology and European Cultural Heritage is a collection of papers from the Proceedings of the European Symposium of the same title held in Bologna, Italy on June13-16, 1989. The papers discuss the critical issues related to the scientific and technical aspects of the protection and conservation of the cultural heritage of Europe. Participants of the symposium identify and describe the main research and development issues that are common to cultural heritage problems, and increase cooperation in these areas. Other papers examine the applicability of research and development through better matching with the real needs of conservators, restorers, policy makers, and the general public. The participants also discuss specific research and development directions for the future, including the provision of a scientific basis for European Community policies on environment and culture. One paper presents some of the scientific research done both in the field and laboratory of specific historical areas, monuments, indoor objects. As an example, archaeologists can use infrared thermal image analysis as an enhanced tool to detect buried archeological and historical sites. Another paper analyzes the chemical and physical properties of deteriorated stones in historical monuments in Castile-Leon. The conference “Independent Albania and Italo-Albanian relations, 1912-2012” was held on 22nd November, 2012 at the Sapienza University of Rome, on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the declaration of the independence of Albania. Realized within the project PRIN 2009 “Empires and Nations in Europe from the 18th to the 20th century”, and thanks to the efforts of CEMAS (Research Center “Cooperation with Eurasia, the Mediterranean region and Sub-Saharan Africa”) and the Ph.D. in History of Europe, the conference was sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Albanian Embassy in Italy, the Historical Office of the Army General Staff and the State Central Archives in Tirana. Italian and Albanian scholars gave their own analyses of the main topics of the history of Albania and of the Italo-Albanian relations with the aim of providing for the scientific community and the public useful and valid tools for reflection and judgment. The common intention of the participants was to give, on the occasion of a very important anniversary for the Albanian State, their own contributions to the knowledge and understanding of the difficult history of the country that shares with Italy old and firm relations and multiple economic, political and cultural interests.

It follows on from Recent Developments in the History of Chemistry, a volume published in 1985. Covering chiefly the last 20 years, the primary aim of Chemical History: Reviews of the Recent Literature is to familiarise newcomers to the history of chemistry with some of the more important developments in the field. Starting with a general introduction and look at the early history of chemistry, subsequent chapters go on to investigate the traditional areas of chemistry (physical, organic, inorganic) alongside analytical chemistry, physical organic chemistry, medical chemistry and biochemistry, and instruments and apparatus. Topics such as industrial chemistry and chemistry in national contexts, whilst not featuring as separate chapters, are woven throughout the content. Each chapter is written by experts and is extensively referenced to the international chemical literature. Chemical History: Reviews of the Recent Literature is also ideal for chemists who wish to become familiar with historical aspects of their work. In addition, it will appeal to a wider audience interested in the history of chemistry, as it draws together historical materials that are widely scattered throughout the chemical literature.

Book Young Choristers 650 1700

Download or read book Young Choristers 650 1700 written by Susan Boynton and published by Boydell & Brewer Ltd. This book was released on 2008 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Young singers through the centuries have occupied a central position in a variety of religious institutional settings: urban cathedrals, collegiate churches, monasteries, guilds, and confraternities." "The training of singers for performance in religious services shaped the very structures of ecclesiastical institutions, which developed to meet the need for educating their youngest members. The development of musical repertories and styles also directly reflected the ubiquitous participation of children's voices in both chant and polyphony. There was even, frequently, a future for choristers after their voices broke."--BOOK JACKET.
