The Triennale played a leading role in organizing important qualitative events that have enhanced the city's image. Last but not least, the foundation of the Museum of Design. To achieve its goals, the Milan Triennale has established its own Research Centre and a Permanent Collection of Italian Design. The 100 objects of Italian Design on show in this exhibition have been selected from the Permanent Collection, a unique qualitative and quantative ensemble of Italy's design legacy. The Permanent Collection is used as a basis for all exhibits on Italian Design at the Triennale or around the world: its intention is to shed new light on the history of industrial production in Italy. The pieces in the Collection illustrate the heterogeneous history of Italian design, the innovation and experimentation that have made it famous and immediately recognisable thanks to the works created by its master designers. Italy is a country with a thriving manufacturing industry that focuses on quality design and products: in fact, design represents one of the country's strategic economic resources. Its "good fortune," and niche position on the international stage and world markets is primarily due to the "system" that has gradually been developed. The system unites design culture and production which are influenced, on the one hand, by the still unrivalled works of the past - for example, those by Leonardo da Vinci - and, on the other, by the vision of a future that goes beyond mere technique and the exploitation of natural resources. After more than a year of logistics and hard work, the exchange happened once more in 2010, this time the American students got the opportunity of traveling abroad to La Spezia where, for a week, they worked along the Italian students in the development of a small case study project. Since then, the transatlantic exchanges have kept a faithful dynamic making of 2018 the closing year of a prosperous and wonderful decade of international relationship. Anche prima del battesimo ufficiale del CSSY Design Program, FIU e UniGE hanno lavorato insieme per sviluppare opportunità educative uniche per i loro studenti. Con il primo scambio che ha avuto luogo nell’estate del 2008, FIU Interior Architecture ha ospitato il gruppo di design navale e nautico di UniGE per una settimana; un test con risultati positivi che avrebbe contribuito a promuovere i vantaggi di sviluppare ulteriormente questa iniziativa internazionale. Dopo più di un anno di logistica e duro lavoro, lo scambio si è rinnovato nel 2010 e questa volta il gruppo americano ha avuto l’opportunità di viaggiare all’estero a La Spezia dove, per una settimana, ha lavorato assieme agli studenti italiani nello sviluppo di un piccolo progetto. Da allora, gli scambi internazionali hanno mantenuto una solida continuitá, facendo si che il 2018 coronasse un prospero e meraviglioso decennio di relazioni internazionali.

Although foreigners, these experts, namely Bramante Buffoni, Roberto Sambonet, Lina Bo Bardi, Giancarlo Palanti, and Pietro Maria Bardi, were engaged in the construction of paths for Brazilian art, architecture, and design, in production marked by the intertwining of artistic disciplines. By examining the works produced between 1946 and 1991, and focusing on the relationship between art and architecture, with previously unexplored cases, the text investigates how these actors engaged in the dilemmas of Brazilian culture and became part of its invention. The intention is to understand the nature and meaning of this recognizable experience, the continuities of and ruptures from modern architectural, art and design ideals, pre-war experience, and immigration, illuminating a complex framework of relationships with local ideas. The approach and the extensive archival research in Italy and Brazil adopted for the book sheds new light on critically rethinking and reframing Italian and Brazilian cultural events, and will be of interest to architects, researchers, teachers, and students interested in the history of architecture, museums, design, and art.
