It takes a look at many different cultures, how they deal with love and marriage. This tale revolves around culture shock and class clash. Our protagonist Glenda marries five times to men of different nationalities in different countries. She progresses hopefully from the spineless wimp to the ultra-macho man of her dreams. Traveling from Tuxedo Park, to Ibiza, Mexico, Greece, Israel, Cyprus, Jordan, Turkey, and New York City, Glenda’s Wedding Night is doormat versus diva, wife versus mistress, career versus home, feminism versus machismo, quack versus witch, users and losers, playboys and wannabes, the Latin culture versus the Anglo culture, and immigrant versus blue-blood. It’s about what everybody thinks they’re missing in life, about dangerous liaisons and fatal attractions. It’s all here in a multicolored tapestry of steamy romance and bizarre travel, spanning decades.

Download or read book California Fruits Flakes Nuts written by David Kulczyk and published by Linden Publishing. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They call California the Granola State — a place where every inhabitant is a fruit, a flake, or a nut. They don’t get any fruitier, flakier, or nuttier than the deviants, crackpots, and losers profiled in “California Fruits, Flakes, and Nuts.” A freewheeling catalog of misfits, eccentrics, creeps, criminals, and failed dreamers, “California Fruits, Flakes, and Nuts” profiles 45 bizarre personalities who exemplify the Golden State’s well-deserved reputation for nonconformity. “California Fruits, Flakes and Nuts” tells the history that gets cleaned out of respectable history books. In these pages, Gold Rush pioneers are revealed as murderous madmen; Hollywood celebrities are shown to be drug-addled sex maniacs; early hippies are just 1950s weirdos; and even seemingly ordinary Californians have a talent for freakish, crazy, and criminal behavior. From frontier lunatic Grizzly Adams (whose head was one massive wound after multiple bear attacks) to “I Love Lucy” star William Frawley (a racist, misogynist, foul-mouthed drunk) to legendarily awful film director Ed Wood and many more nutjobs and oddballs , “California Fruits, Flakes, and Nuts” is a side-splitting look at the people who made California the strangest place on earth.

Book A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet

Download or read book A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet written by Sophie Hudson and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2013-06-04 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There’s nothing quite like family—for good or bad. But in a world where we sometimes know more about the Kardashians than we do the people sleeping right down the hall, it’s easy to forget that walking through life with our family offers all sorts of joy wrapped up in the seemingly mundane. There’s even a little bit of sacred sitting smack-dab in the middle of the ordinary. And since time’s-a-wastin’, we need to be careful that we don’t take our people—and their stories—for granted. Whether it’s a marathon bacon-frying session, a road trip gone hysterically wrong, or a mother-in-law who makes every trip to the grocery store an adventure, author Sophie Hudson reminds us how important it is to slow down and treasure the day-to-day encounters with the people we love the most. Written in the same witty style as Sophie’s BooMama blog, A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet is a cheerful, funny, and tender account of Sophie’s very Southern family. It’s a look into the real lives of real people—and a real, loving God right in the middle of it all.

It’s a look into the real lives of real people—and a real, loving God right in the middle of it all. Home Is Where My People Are All roads lead to home. It’s easy to go through life believing that we can satisfy our longing for home with a three-bedroom, two-bath slice of the American dream that we mortgage at 4 percent and pay for over the course of thirty years. But ultimately, in our deepest places, we’re really looking to belong and to be known. And what we sometimes miss in our search for the perfect spot to set up camp is that wherever we are on the long and winding road of life, God is at work in the journey, teaching us, shaping us, and refining us—sometimes through the most unlikely people and circumstances. In Home Is Where My People Are, Sophie Hudson takes readers on a delightfully quirky journey through the South, introducing them to an unforgettable cast of characters, places, and experiences. Along the way, she reflects on how God has used each of the stops along the road to impart timeless spiritual wisdom and truth. Nobody embodies the South like Sophie Hudson, and this nostalgic celebration of home is sure to make even those north of the Mason-Dixon line long to settle in on the front porch with a glass of sweet tea and reflect on all of the people in our lives who—related or not—have come to represent home. Because at the end of the day, it’s not the address on the front door or even the name on the mailbox that says home, but the people who live and laugh and love there, wherever there might happen to be.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Land Remembered has been ranked #1 Best Florida Book eight times in annual polls conducted by Florida Monthly Magazine. In this best-selling novel, Patrick Smith tells the story of three generations of the MacIveys, a Florida family who battle the hardships of the frontier to rise from a dirt-poor Cracker life to the wealth and standing of real estate tycoons. The story opens in 1858, when Tobias MacIvey arrives in the Florida wilderness to start a new life with his wife and infant son, and ends two generations later in 1968 with Solomon MacIvey, who realizes that the land has been exploited far beyond human need. The sweeping story that emerges is a rich, rugged Florida history featuring a memorable cast of crusty, indomitable Crackers battling wild animals, rustlers, Confederate deserters, mosquitoes, starvation, hurricanes, and freezes to carve a kingdom out of the swamp. But their most formidable adversary turns out to be greed, including finally their own. Love and tenderness are here too: the hopes and passions of each new generation, friendships with the persecuted blacks and Indians, and respect for the land and its wildlife. A Land Remembered was winner of the Florida Historical Society's Tebeau Prize as the Most Outstanding Florida Historical Novel. Now in its 14th hardcover printing, it has been in print since 1984 and is also available in trade paperback.

Book Barbie Talks

Book excerpt: BARBIEr TALKS! is a free-wheeling account of life at Mattel during the “Golden Age” of the sixties and early seventies. This is the first book written by two toy designers who actually worked in the wonderful, top secret circus of Mattel’s Research and Design. BARBIEr TALKS! relates the genius, the hilarity and the craziness that, Gwen Florea and Glenda Phinney encountered in the workplace and their roles in making Talking Barbie a reality. In their well-written intersecting personal memoirs, the authors reveal the inside story of how Barbie got her voice, and why Barbie’s figure took the unrealistic shape that it did. There are both humorous and poignant stories about the antics of the toy designers and executives of Mattel. These historical events are interwoven with an honest and very readable account of the loves, marriages, and the blindly sexist business world, which triggered development of a feminine consciousness in each woman. What do Barbie Dolls do when they grow up? They have amazing lives and achieve their goals! BARBIE TALKS! is a revealing account of two women who came of age in the shadow of Barbie, and reveals a lie to the notion that Barbie was a poor influence for young women. • Author : Kathy Lou
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2015-10-30
  • ISBN : 1504951271
  • Pages : 130 pages

Download or read book Toxic Love written by Kathy Lou and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many forms of toxic love. One form is the kind where you love someone that can hurt or destroy you. Another kind is what you do to yourself to make the pain go away. These types of pain are written about frequently in dramas, tabloids, and self-help books. One type of toxic love is rarely written about. It is a love with someone that is over the Internet. You cant look in the persons eyes. You dont know their character or motives. They will tell you the things you want to hear. They will find out what your passions are. Your interests, dreams, and hopes. They will let you talk about your day. They will seem like your best friend. They make you believe that they will always love you. All you have to do is give your money, bank account information, or resources. They will make it up to you. Sadly, people will do this because they want to believe there are still honest and decent people. They are lonely or want to get rich quickly. The end result is devastating and can lead to bankruptcy, despair, and loss of everything you have worked for. Because the victim allows the scammer into their accounts, they have to pick up the pieces. There are many Internet scams out there to get peoples money. One of the saddest is where someone is hoping to find love and is deceived online. The scammers motive is to get money, property, or something else that is valuable to the person they are contacting. What is sad is that most of the victims do this willingly. They are hoping for someone or something better than what they have. This is a story that deals with one of those situations. I hope that you enjoy the story. I also hope that you will learn from our characters what this kind of love can do.
