However the breed quickly started to be used as a general purpose farm dog due to its high levels of trainability and intelligence. In modern times the Glen of Imaal Terrier is mainly found as a household companion dog due to its affectionate and loving nature. The Glen of Imaal Terrier has a unique double coat that is wiry on the topside and much softer on the underside. The temperament of dogs is normally affected by the following factors: individual personality, heredity, training and socialization.
