Like many other terriers, the Glen of Imaal Terrier was originally used to hunt and kill vermin such as rats, mice, foxes, badges and otters. However the breed quickly started to be used as a general purpose farm dog due to its high levels of trainability and intelligence. In modern times the Glen of Imaal Terrier is mainly found as a household companion dog due to its affectionate and loving nature. The Glen of Imaal Terrier has a unique double coat that is wiry on the topside and much softer on the underside. The temperament of dogs is normally affected by the following factors: individual personality, heredity, training and socialization.
