This book was released on 2007-10-17 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turn the top 7 career breakers for women into career makers Statistically, more than one-third of Fortune 500 managers are women-and yet we represent barely five percent of the top earners among executives. Usually, we blame it on men-those “old boy” networks that don't typically welcome women into “the club.” But, according to leadership coach Rebecca Shambaugh, the real obstacle to women's advancement is not a “glass ceiling.” It's the self-imposed career blocks that prevent us from moving up. These are the 7 “sticky floors”: 1. Balancing Your Work and Life 2. Embracing “Good Enough” in Your Work 3. Making the Break 4. Making Your Words Count 5. Forming Your Own Board of Directors 6. Capitalizing on Your Political Savvy 7. Asking for What You Want Admit it: You've probably been “stuck” in at least one or more of these situations. Maybe you're a perfectionist who has trouble letting go of a task. Maybe you're so loyal to your company that you haven't explored other career options. Maybe you're afraid of speaking up in meetings. Or maybe you're so accommodating to others' needs that you never take care of your own. This book will show you how to get unstuck from these common traps. You'll discover how other successful women have managed to break out of middle management jobs to grab the top leadership positions. You'll hear hard-won advice from working mothers who also happen to be CEOs, including proven tricks of the trade when it comes to juggling career and family. You'll learn how to conquer your insecurities, transform your thinking, tailor your behavior, and demand the kind of professional recognition you deserve. There's even a section of fill-in charts and checklists at the end of the book to help you stay on track, in control, and on the rise. Once you've freed yourself from life's sticky floors, there's nowhere to go but up.

Book James Bond and the Sixties Spy Craze

Download or read book James Bond and the Sixties Spy Craze written by Thom Shubilla and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2024-04-02 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: James Bond the the 60s Spy Craze will explore James Bond films and the number of movies and television shows of the 1960s inspired by Ian Fleming’s character. The book also delves into the production, casting, merchandise, and music that helped to make James Bond a household name and a cultural touchstone. The 1960s spy craze lasted seven years, ostensibly from 1962–1969—peaking in 1966–1967. However, in that time many secret agent films flooded theaters and drive-ins and television shows filled station line-ups in the United States throughout the 1960s. All of which were directly inspired by the first James Bond adventure to hit the big screen, Dr. No (1962). This is the story, from a historical perspective, of those films and how they became a part of American pop culture. The book explores the various other top agents of the time, Matt Helm, Dereck Flint, and Harry Palmer, and the many spy-spoof imitators coming from the United States, England, Europe, and Mexico and discusses the impact James Bond had on each of these films and the ways in which James Bond influenced media. Also discussed are budgets, casting, production, box office numbers/ratings, development, merchandising, and how these elements have contributed to the success and longevity of the popularity of James Bond films.

Book Sacred Stimulus

    Book Details:
  • Author : Galit Noga-Banai
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2018-06-01
  • ISBN : 019087466X
  • Pages : 233 pages

Download or read book Sacred Stimulus written by Galit Noga-Banai and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-01 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sacred Stimulus offers a thorough exploration of Jerusalem's role in the formation and formulation of Christian art in Rome during the fourth and fifth centuries. The visual vocabulary discussed by Galit Noga-Banai gives an alternative access point to the mnemonic efforts conceived while Rome converted to Christianity: not in comparison to pagan art in Rome, not as reflecting the struggle with the emergence of New Rome in the East (Constantinople), but rather as visual expressions of the confrontation with earthly Jerusalem and its holy places. After all, Jerusalem is where the formative events of Christianity occurred and were memorialized. Sacred Stimulus argues that, already in the second half of the fourth century, Rome constructed its own set of holy sites and foundational myths, while expropriating for its own use some of Jerusalem's sacred relics, legends, and sites. Relying upon well-known and central works of art, including mosaic decoration, sarcophagi, wall paintings, portable art, and architecture, Noga-Banai exposes the omnipresence of Jerusalem and its position in the genesis of Christian art in Rome. Noga-Banai's consideration of earthly Jerusalem as a conception that Rome used, or had to take into account, in constructing its own new Christian ideological and cultural topography of the past, sheds light on connections and analogies that have not necessarily been preserved in the written evidence, and offers solutions to long-standing questions regarding specific motifs and scenes.
