Book excerpt: The Department of Dragon Affairs sends Dr. Kiyana Barnes to Lochguard with a group of human women open to having dragon mates. She’s supposed to help them adjust to being around dragon-shifters while also observing how the clan works on a day-to-day basis. She most definitely isn’t supposed to notice how one look from a certain dragonman teacher sets her skin on fire, let alone ask him to kiss her in a weak moment, given her past. Alistair Boyd spends most of his time in the clan’s archives, searching for a solution to fulfill the vow he made to himself three years ago. However, when his clan leader orders him to educate the latest group of humans to come to Lochguard, he has no choice but to cut back and do his clan duty. One of the females in particular catches his eye, but he tries to resist her. After all, he made an important vow. One that includes staying away from females until it’s complete. One weak moment results in a kiss that changes both Kiyana and Alistair’s lives forever. Unfortunately, a clan emergency means keeping Alistair’s dragon silent, for more days than he’d like. Will Alistair’s duty to clan end up harming his dragon and pushing away the woman who is his second chance? Or, will he beat the clock to have everything he didn’t know he wanted?

Download or read book A Glasgow Mosaic written by Ian R Mitchell and published by Luath Press Ltd. This book was released on 2013-11-30 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this book is completed a trilogy of works begun in 2005 with This City Now: Glasgow and its Working Class Past, and continuing with Clydeside; Red Orange and Green in 2009. The three books have all had similar aims in trying to raise the profile of forgotten or neglected areas and aspects of Glasgow and its history, in a small way trying to boost the esteem in which such places are held by the people who live in there and by those who visit. Moving away slightly from the working class focus, this third instalment presents a broad view of Glasgow's industrial, social and intellectual history. From public art to socialist memorials, and from factories to cultural hubs, Ian Mitchell takes the reader on a guided tour of Glasgow, outlining walking routes which encompass the city's forgotten icons.

Book excerpt: Everyone has scars, but you can't always see them Ellie's scars talk to her: they warn her about the dangers of the future by reminding her of the pain of the past Griff's scars are deep inside, in a place where only Ellie can touch They fall in love on the island where, legend has it, a dragon once made a promise he could not keep... The Dragon's Promise is a comic romance in which the unlikely star-crossed lovers are Griff, a disillusioned Hollywood writer, and Ellie, facially scarred after a car crash, but with emotional scars that run far deeper. They meet and fall in love on a remote Scottish island, both looking for escape, and instead finding laughter and hope But when circumstances conspire to drive them apart, Ellie wanders from place to place, job to job, trying to forget, and extracting as much joy and humour from life as she can And Griff searches for her from Los Angeles across Europe, knowing she is his last, best chance of redemption. "With a cast of warm wonderful Highland characters, wry Scottish humour, and a clumsy, touching love story, this is a book to warm the cockles" "For anyone who loves the wild and stunning scenery of the North West Highlands, this book will be a delight"
Download or read book Scottish Aerodromes of the 1920s and 1930s written by Malcolm Fife and published by Fonthill Media. This book was released on 2020-10-04 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The end of the First World War brought with it the closure most of the military aerodromes in Scotland. It, however, retained its links with naval aviation with aircraft carriers frequently exercising off the coast. In the latter part of the decade Auxiliary Air Force squadrons were formed at Edinburgh and Glasgow manned by civilians. With the rise of the Nazis in Germany, the RAF responded by building new airfields or re-opening former First World War sites. They included armament practice camps at Evanton and West Freugh where pilots could practice their skills in bombing and firing their weapons. RAF flying boats also visited various coastal locations around Scotland in the years leading up to the War. The inter-war services also saw the development of scheduled airline services within the country. They were, however, not between major towns but linked remote islands with major towns of the mainland. An air ambulance service was also created to serve isolated communities. All of these developments are covered as well as private flying and gliding. There is also a section on aerodromes that were planned but never built.

This book was released on 2007-04-11 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Edinburgh Companion to Contemporary Scottish Literature examines the ways in which the cultural and political role of Scottish writing has changed since the country's successful referendum on national self-rule in 1997. In doing so, it makes a convincing case for a distinctive post-devolution Scottish criticism. Introducing over forty original essays under four main headings - 'Contexts', 'Genres', 'Authors' and 'Topics' - the volume covers the entire spectrum of current interests and topical concerns in the field of Scottish studies and heralds a new era in Scottish writing, literary criticism and cultural theory. It records and critically outlines prominent literary trends and developments, the specific political circumstances and aesthetic agendas that propel them, as well as literature's capacity for envisioning new and alternative futures. Issues under discussion include class, sexuality and gender, nationhood and globalisation, the New Europe and cosmopolitan citizenship, postcoloniality,
