Book Contemporary Odia Short Stories

Download or read book Contemporary Odia Short Stories written by Various Authors and published by Black Eagle Books. This book was released on 2020-05-08 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fakir Mohan Senapati laid the foundation of Odia short stories with the publication of 'Rebati' in 1898, about a hundred and twenty two years ago. Ever since, the genre has evolved much. He wrote about twenty short stories between 1898 and 1916. Critics have accepted this phase as the first phase of Odia story writing. The period between 1910 and 1947 is known as the second phase in the life of Odia short stories. This was the period when realism, progressive thoughts, Gandhian ideals, Marxism, the freedom struggle etc. had their impacts. The story writers were guided by an instinct to reform the society, serve people and help in promotion of nationalistic feelings. After the 1960s, writers started delving deep into the sub-conscious state of mind and analyzing it minutely. Besides, a period of 'quest' or 'search for knowledge' ensued. The writers were more serious about their quest into life, world, death, sorrow and suffering. This was a phase when the conservative mindset was set aside. This apart, many movements like 'Humanism,' 'Socialism,' 'Existentialism,' 'Symbolism' etc. took the writers into their grips. This anthology has thirty-one Odia short stories translated into English. Each story gives a new taste in so far as treatment of the subject matter and style are concerned. We have past masters who have carved a niche for themselves. More than half of our writers have been conferred with either the Odisha Sahitya Akademi award or the Central Sahitya Akademi award or both. We also have new talents who are venturing to touch the sky. The writers who gained prominence during the period from 1960 to 1980 and who's translated stories have been included here are Achyutananda Pati, Santanu Kumar Acharya, Manoj Das, Binapani Mohanty, Ramachandra Behera, Padmaja Paul, Satya Misra, Yashodhara Mishra, Bibhuti Pattanaik, Debraj Lenka, Banaj Devi, Radha Binod Nayak, and Archana Nayak. The writers who shot to prominence during 1980 to 1990 are Dash Benhur, Tarunkanti Mishra, Prativa Ray, Hrusikesh Panda, Paresh Patnaik, Manoj Panda, and Bibhuti Bhusan Pradhan. Similarly, the writers who reigned the world of Odia stories during 1990 are Gourahari Das, Gayatri Saraf, Dipti Ranjan Patnaik, Supriya Panda, and Paramita Satapathy. The emerging talents whose stories have been included in the anthology are Adyasha Das, Kshetrabasi Naik, Manas Panda, Rabinarayan Dash, Sreekanta Kumar Barik, and Ranjan Pradhan.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about a deeply beloved place—many call it the spiritual capital of India. Located at a dramatic bend in the River Yamuna, a hundred miles from the center of Delhi, Vrindavan is the spot where the god Krishna is believed to have spent his childhood and youth. For Hindus it has always stood for youth writ large—a realm of love and beauty that enables one to retreat from the weight and harshness of the world. Now, though, the world is gobbling up Vrindavan. Delhi’s megalopolitan sprawl inches closer day by day—half the town is a vast real-estate development—and the waters of the Yamuna are too polluted to drink or even bathe in. Temples now style themselves as theme parks, and the world’s tallest religious building is under construction in Krishna’s pastoral paradise. What happens when the Anthropocene Age makes everything virtual? What happens when heaven gets plowed under? Like our age as a whole, Vrindavan throbs with feisty energy, but is it the religious canary in our collective coal mine?

Book Hanuman Prasad Poddar An Exalted Divinity

Download or read book Hanuman Prasad Poddar An Exalted Divinity written by O.P. Gupta and published by Prabhat Prakashan. This book was released on 2018-08-19 with total page 746 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You are holding in your hands the first book containing an authentic biography of two greatest divinities of this country about which people are not well acquainted. It contains a unique account not found elsewhere about the actual meetings of Bhaijee—Shri Hanuman Prasad Poddar with Lord Vishnu in 1927 at Jasidih in front of several gentlemen and again in Gorakhpur. Second important event is the exclusive appearance of saint Narad and great sage Angira in front of Bhaijee in 1936. Conversation of Bhaijee with a Parsee ghost would certainly convince readers about the importance of Shraddh to be performed after one’s death. Bhaijee was not only a true saint and social reformer but was also involved in independence movement of India. Founder editor of famous ‘Kalyan’; Bhaijee did herculean efforts to translate rare and ancient scriptures like Ramayana & Mahabharat from Sanskrit to Hindi and made them available to everyone at very nominal price. Bhaijee showed an evidence for a brightest identity of the sweet love towards Radha-Krishna and explored its feasibility to achieve it with an utmost simplicity through his discourses and texts. He did an extraordinary campaign for divine name and religious devotion (Bhakti) amidst general public. Inclusion of a short biography of another divinity—Sethji Shri Jaidayal Goyandka is another feature of this seminal book. The credit for establishment of Gita Press in Gorakhpur; Govind Bhawan in Kolkata; Gita Bhawan of Swargashram at Rishikesh and Rishikul Ashram in Churu including a unique; authentic and excellent commentary on Gita goes to him only.

Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive account of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), India's first residential university and the result of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya's efforts to establish a Hindu university in the country. This book not only discusses the origins and development of the BHU, but also the challenges and issues that the school faced. It studies Malaviya's efforts to introduce religious education in BHU—and even make it mandatory—and his response to Mahatma Gandhi's efforts to boycott the university. It also describes the lives of the students in the campus and its academic, intellectual, and cultural atmosphere. This book also considers the role and influence of the British in the development of Hindu education during the late colonial period and the importance of the university's location.
