Download or read book Images of Colonialism and Decolonisation in the Italian Media written by Paolo Bertella Farnetti and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twentieth century saw a proliferation of media discourses on colonialism and, later, decolonisation. Newspapers, periodicals, films, radio and TV broadcasts contributed to the construction of the image of the African “Other” across the colonial world. In recent years, a growing body of literature has explored the role of these media in many colonial societies. As regards the Italian context, however, although several works have been published about the links between colonial culture and national identity, none have addressed the specific role of the media and their impact on collective memory (or lack thereof). This book fills that gap, providing a review of images and themes that have surfaced and resurfaced over time. The volume is divided into two sections, each organised around an underlying theme: while the first deals with visual memory and images from the cinema, radio, television and new media, the second addresses the role of the printed press, graphic novels and comics, photography and trading cards.

Download or read book We Are the Weather written by Jonathan Safran Foer and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Safran Foer re-evaluated his meat-based diet--and his conscience--in his powerful memoir and investigative report, Eating Animals. Now, he offers a mind-bending and potentially world-changing call to action on climate change. Most books about the environmental crisis are densely academic, depressingly doom-laden, and crammed with impersonal statistics. We Are the Weather is different--accessible, immediate, and with a single clear solution that individual readers can put into practice straight away. A significant proportion of global carbon emissions come from farming meat. Giving up meat is incredibly hard and nobody is perfect--but just cutting back is much easier and still has a huge positive effect on the environment. Just changing our dinners--cutting out meat for one meal per day--is enough to change the world. With his distinctive wit, insight, and humanity, Foer frames this essential debate as no one else could, bringing it to vivid and urgent life.
Download or read book Brain and Art written by Bruno Colombo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes and discusses in detail art therapy, a specific tool used to sustain health in affective developments, rehabilitation, motor skills and cognitive functions. Art therapy is based on the assumption that the process of making art (music, dance, painting) sparks emotions and enhances brain activity. Art therapy is used to encourage personal growth, facilitate particular brain areas or activity patterns, and improve neural connectivity. Treating neurological diseases using artistic strategies offers us a unique option for engaging brain structural networks that enhance the brain’s ability to form new connections. Based on brain plasticity, art therapy has the potential to increase our repertoire for treating neurological diseases. Neural substrates are the basis of complex emotions relative to art experiences, and involve a widespread activation of cognitive and motor systems. Accordingly, art therapy has the capacity to modulate behavior, cognition, attention and movement. In this context, art therapy can offer effective tools for improving general well-being, quality of life and motivation in connection with neurological diseases. The book discusses art therapy as a potential group of techniques for the treatment of neurological disturbances and approaches the relationship between humanistic disciplines and neurology from a holistic perspective, reflecting the growing interest in this interconnection.

Download or read book The Zodiac Killer Enigma written by Randall Clemons and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer who operated in the northern California and San Francisco Bay areas in the late 1960's and 70's. He sent a number of codes. letters, and a map to taunt the police and frighten the public. Only one of his codes was ever solved and may yet hold untold secrets. If you are the kind of person who likes crossword puzzles and brain teasers but you are bored of the same old things that in the end don't mean anything after you solve them, and want to try out your talent on something real; then this is the book for you. My name is Randall Clemons and I have been researching the Zodiac and his codes for the last ten years. In this book, I will show you how his codes are not what they seem. I will show you how they work with his map in a series of overlays and how they may connect to an unsolved murder of a girl named Susan Nason. He sent two bomb drawings, one of which is also a map overlay and one shows signs it is to be folded. The one that matches the map in an overlay is a threat against a school, and the place it marks is a school. It also marks a section of highway with a string of bombs. In this book I tell you the basic story, introduce you to the kinds of codes and puzzles I think Zodiac copied as well as where he got the idea from. Then you will be familiarized with the codes and what I have found which will amaze you. The puzzle still isn't finished and I need your help to solve the Zodiac Killer Enigma. I will show you how his codes are all connected to one another and how they are not just limited to his known codes but how they are hidden all throughout his letters for people to discover. In this Part 1 of a two-part series, you will read and learn all of that while being fascinated at the same time. In part two of this two-part series, you will see all of his letters in their entirety for you to read and study so you can do your own code-breaking and puzzle solving. Zodiac meant for all of these letters to be published in the papers so the people in the general public could find his riddles and solve his puzzle and maybe even catch him. The majority of his letter was kept from the public for years, so the codes were never solved like he intended. they couldn't be because the people trying to solve them did not have all of the puzzle pieces. I will show you a whole new take on the Zodiac codes and that anyone, even you are capable of figuring them out and solving the rest of the puzzle. Part two of this series also exhibits all of the crime scene and victim photos, and they have been colorized. It also has a Department Of Justice Special Report, handwriting comparisons and more for the reader to study and investigate. You can become an amateur sleuth and code breaker after you see what I have to show you. So if you like mystery, puzzles, codes, true crime, then you need to read this book and maybe you can even solve the rest of the puzzle, and remember, Zodiac was never captured. He could still be out there today. he could be your next-door neighbor, he could be the man standing behind you a the grocery store, he could be your one of your friends or family. so take a look at what I have to show you and try the codes for your self, who knows what you will find? May you even find him?
