Book Gigacycle Fatigue of the Titanium Alloy

Download or read book Gigacycle Fatigue of the Titanium Alloy written by Alexander Nikitin and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This PhD project is dealing with a problem of fatigue failures of aeronautical titanium alloy due to high frequency loading. The material for investigation was taken from the real aircraft engine compressor disk. Ultrasonic fatigue tests were carried out up to outrun limit of 1010 cycles. This region of lifetime is known as Gigacycle or very high cycle fatigue. This PhD project shows for the first time the results of fatigue tests on the VT3-1 aeronautical titanium alloy in the Gigacycle region. The fatigue properties of the titanium alloy were determined at 109 cycles for different loading conditions: tension-compression, tension-tension and torsion loading. Typical crack initiation mechanisms were identified and critical defects of microstructure were found. The effect of anisotropy due to fabrication process on the fatigue properties of the forged VT3-1 titanium alloy was studied. An influence of technological process on fatigue properties was also studied by comparison the results on extruded and forged VT3-1 titanium alloy. The new ultrasonic torsion machine was designed and installed for the long life (up to 1010 cycles) fatigue tests under rotation. The first results under ultrasonic torsion loading were obtained for the titanium alloy made by extrusion and forged technologies.

Book Metal Fatigue Effects of Small Defects and Nonmetallic Inclusions

Download or read book Metal Fatigue Effects of Small Defects and Nonmetallic Inclusions written by Yukitaka Murakami and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-04-29 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal fatigue is an essential consideration for engineers and researchers who are looking at factors that cause metals to fail through stress, corrosion, etc. This is an English translation of a book originally published in Japan in 1993, with an additional two chapters on the fatigue failure of steels and the effect of surface roughness on fatigue strength. The methodology is based on important and reliable results and may be usefully applied to other fatigue problems not directly treated in this book.

Book The Science Technology and Application of Titanium

Download or read book The Science Technology and Application of Titanium written by R. I. Jaffee and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 1225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Science, Technology and Application of Titanium contains the proceedings of an International Conference organized by the Institute of Metals, The Metallurgical Society of AIME, and the American Society for Metals in association with the Japan Institute of Metals and the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and held at the Royal Festival Hall in London, on May 21-24, 1968. The papers explore scientific and technological developments as well as applications of titanium and cover topics ranging from processing of titanium to its chemical and environmental behavior, physics, thermodynamics, and kinetics. Deformation and fracture, phase transformations and heat treatment, and alloying are also discussed. This book is comprised of 114 chapters and begins with an overview of the titanium industry in Europe and the United States. The reader is then introduced to primary and secondary fabrication of titanium; corrosion and oxidation; physical properties of titanium alloys; interaction of titanium with elements of the periodic system; and elastic interactions between dislocations and twin and grain boundaries in titanium. The crystallography of deformation twinning in titanium is also examined, along with superplasticity and transformation plasticity in titanium. The remaining chapters focus on interstitial strengthening of titanium alloys; mechanism of martensitic transformation in titanium and its alloys; phase relationships in titanium-oxygen alloys; strengthening of titanium alloys by shock deformation; and titanium hot forming. This monograph will be of interest to chemists and metallurgists.

Download or read book High Cycle Fatigue written by Theodore Nicholas and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-07-07 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr Theodore Nicholas ran the High Cycle Fatigue Program for the US Air Force between 1995 and 2003 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and is one of the world's leading authorities on the subject, having authored over 250 papers in leading archival journals and books. Bringing his plethora of expertise to this book, Dr Nicholas discusses the subject of high cycle fatigue (HCF) from an engineering viewpoint in response to a series of HCF failures in the USAF and the concurrent realization that HCF failures in general were taking place universally in both civilian and military engines. Topic covered include: - Constant life diagrams - Fatigue limits under combined LCF and HCF - Notch fatigue under HCF conditions - Foreign object damage (FOD) - Brings years of the Author's US Air Force experience in high cycle fatigue together in one text - Discusses HCF in the context of recent international military and civilian engine failures
