Book excerpt: Ever since their world-shattering war ended, the slumbering mecha called 'Giga' have been both gods and habitats for the surviving humans. Then disgraced engineer Evan Calhoun discovers a murdered Giga, and the very fabric of society starts unraveling around him. A GIANT MECH MURDER MYSTERY. Nobody knows why the skyscraper-sized mechs known as ‘Giga’ fought their bitter, centuries’ long war. All they know is that when the fighting finally stopped, the dormant Giga became humanity’s new habitat and new gods in one. When disgraced engineer Evan Calhoun finds an apparently murdered Giga, his society and the fascistic tech-centered religious order that controls it are rapidly thrown into chaos.. From writer Alex Paknadel (Friendo, Turncoat, Incursion) and rising star John Le comes another Vault & White Noise partnership about what happens after the mechs stop fighting. Collects the complete five-issue series. For fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ultra Mega, and the Department of Truth

Book When Mega Goes GIGA

Download or read book When Mega Goes GIGA written by Joseph Brewer and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-04-12 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of the largest industrial petrochemical project ever. A single $20-Billion investment. A true GIGA project. A decade in the making, this intriguing story tells of Sadara's optimistic beginnings, a near-death crisis, its fragile rebirth, sobering pivotal conflicts, and its resounding triumph. It's also a human story of a team struggling against the odds of unrelenting tsunami-type challenges, while battling to gain its identity amidst the cultural juxtaposition of two thriving but very different global companies. While most GIGA projects fail, this book outlines the innovative techniques used to deliver this massively complex yet successful project. In so doing, it provides perhaps the only glimpse into the inner-workings of a successful GIGA project. It is also a discourse in pragmatic real-life project management accessible by all in the projects industries.

Book Dance and the Music of J S Bach Expanded Edition

Download or read book Dance and the Music of J S Bach Expanded Edition written by Meredith Little and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Johann Sebastian Bach devoted a significant portion of his life to the composition of stylized dance music and music based on dance rhythms. Although the music of this very special genre has long been a part of every serious musician's repertoire, very little has been written about it. In Part I, the authors describe the French dance practices in the cities and courts in which Bach lived. It also introduces terminology and analytical tools necessary for discussing dance music of Bach's time. Part II presents the dance forms used by Bach, annotating all of his named dances. It offers information from choreographies, studies of harmony, theorists' writings, and the music of many 17th- and 18th-century composers in order to arrive at a model for each dance type. In Appendix I all of Bach's named dances are listed in convenient tabular form; included are the BWV number for each piece, the date of composition, the larger work in which it appears, the instrumentation, and the meter. Appendix II supplies the same data for pieces clearly recognizable as dance types but not named as such. This volume will stimulate both the musical scholar and the performer with a new look at the rhythmic lifeblood of Bach's remarkable repertoire of dance based music.

Specific focus is placed on topics such as the solvability of the Navier-Stokes equations and the regularity, stability, and symmetry of their solutions, analysis of a living fluid, stochastic effects and numerics for Maxwell’s equations, nonlinear heat equations in critical spaces, viscosity solutions describing various kinds of interfaces, numerics for evolving interfaces, and a hyperbolic obstacle problem. Also included in this volume are an introduction of Yoshikazu Giga’s extensive academic career and a long list of his published work. Students and researchers in mathematical analysis and computation will find interest in this volume on theoretical study for nonlinear phenomena.

Book Applied Mathematics Entering the 21st Century

Download or read book Applied Mathematics Entering the 21st Century written by James M. Hill and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2004-04-01 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Included in this volume are the Invited Talks given at the 5th International Congress of Industrial and Applied Mathematics. The authors of these papers are all acknowledged masters of their fields, having been chosen through a rigorous selection process by a distinguished International Program Committee. This volume presents an overview of contemporary applications of mathematics, with the coverage ranging from the rhythms of the nervous system, to optimal transportation, elasto-plasticity, computational drug design, hydrodynamic and meteorological modeling, and valuation in financial markets. Many papers are direct products of the computer revolution: grid generation, multi-scale modeling, high-dimensional numerical integration, nonlinear optimization, accurate floating-point computations and advanced iterative methods. Other papers demonstrate the close dependence on developments in mathematics itself, and the increasing importance of statistics. Additional topics relate to the study of properties of fluids and fluid-flows, or add to our understanding of Partial Differential Equations.

Book Dynamics Of Regional Innovation The Policy Challenges In Europe And Japan

Download or read book Dynamics Of Regional Innovation The Policy Challenges In Europe And Japan written by Yveline Lecler and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011-12-20 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All over the world, open innovation is emerging and requires much more interactions between different actors with different organizational cultures: large firms and SMEs (i.e. industry), universities and research institutions (i.e. academia), as well as national and regional authorities for building the legal or incentive framework of innovation (i.e government). Certainly, flows of knowledge between these three spheres, which are also known as the triple helix, have always existed; but what appears to be new in an open innovation environment is the overlapping of their missions. In many areas such multi-actor interactions with overlapping roles did not emerge spontaneously, as was the case with the United States.Based on robust cases studied by researchers and practical experiences of personnel involved in innovation at public or private institutions, this book successively discusses the policy framework in Europe and Japan, the new role for universities due to intellectual property reform or technology transfer promotion, the new challenges for firms in terms of licensing, patents, corporate venturing, including entrepreneurship, incubation, venture capital or cross-industry knowledge sharing. All issues addressed in this book are clearly those toward regional innovation policies and practices that are open in nature. It contains descriptions and analysis of the various approaches taken by industrial, governmental, and academic players in various regions of Japan (Tohoku, Tokyo) and Europe (France, Belgium). The mix of theoretical and empirical material collected in this book was first presented at an international symposium in Tokyo. The dynamics of regional innovation is an on-going issue, and we are still standing at the threshold of this field of research. It is exactly why such a book is needed now.
