Download or read book Joseph Akeroyd Rediscovering a Prison Reformer written by Ron Wilson and published by Xlibris Au. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: School teacher Joseph Akeroyd was appointed Inspector General of Victoria's prison system in 1924. He held this role until 1947 becoming the longest serving Inspector General in Victoria's history. This book examines the experiences, achievements and failures of Joseph Akeroyd, the longest serving Inspector General of Victoria's (Australia) penal system, in reforming that system. This is not a traditional biography. It traverses Akeroyd's experiences in his time and reflects on reforms through the author's experiences as a contemporary prison educator. Drawing on his education background, Akeroyd revolutionised the ways prisons and prisoners in Victoria were managed and many of these reforms are embedded in current practice. Access to his personal diaries, letters, official reports, newspaper reports and other private documentation gave insights so his single-minded reform agenda establishing Victoria's unique relationship between education and prison management can now be recognised and acknowledged. There are many personal stories where Akeroyd interacted with infamous criminals. The examination of thwarted escape plans, rectifying wrongful convictions, recording the final days of those awaiting the noose, interviewing those about to be whipped or birched and following up after the events are moderated with contemporary stories of modern day interactions between teachers and prisoner students- some humorous, some sad, some sobering. Finally, this book will challenge all readers to reflect on the role of education in prisons, gain insights following stories of conversations with inmates, challenges in changing practice, involved in education, especially prisoner education, whether you are forming policy, advising policy and practice, delivering programs, supporting those undertaking studies, managing those who teach and /or preparing to teach in these unique environments to reflect on your own learnings and how to adequately prepare for those undertaking this vocation in the future.

Download or read book Love and Honour written by David D E Evans and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2021-06-17 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Love and Honour? Marriage for Peace, exposes the ongoing phenomenon of Romeo and Juliet style romance tragedy; families killing their own and other families' daughters, sons, sisters and brothers in the name of family 'honour". Focused on Northern India and Nepal, the stories illustrate that despite India adopting a democratic constitution in 1950, the public murder of forbidden lovers continues. Media reports of this phenomenon did not surface until 1993, but have increased dramatically since then. Love and Honour? Marriage for Peace has been written to seek a path from murder to reconciliation, to acceptance and ultimately to marriage for peace.
Download or read book End Times written by C Pallaghy PhD and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-09-03 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After Charles was filled with the Holy Spirit he had his first vision about the horrors facing unbelievers. In response, and fearing for his family, he began to soak up the Word of God ‘like a sponge’ under the instruction of amazingly dedicated Bible teachers, over a period of more than 40 years, which is reflected in this book. He is very concerned about complacent Christians presumptuously resting on God’s mercy and benefits unaware that God’s promises are always conditional depending on repentance. He became particularly interested in end-times, in the unity promised by Jesus in John 17 and in the prophetic days of the creation. God has given him the gift of interpreting the symbolism, used in the prophetic scriptures, which he hopes readers will appreciate. The prophetic elements in the life of Samson and the Temple of Solomon, elaborated in this book, will be new to the church.

You’ll watch as a kid grows philosophically and confident, able to handle stress and strain, learning about friendship, love, difficulty, danger, deprivation, and loss. His friends are American kids from all different walks of life, backgrounds, races, and learning. Download or read book Slaves of the One They Chose to Obey written by Shinete Christina Maunze and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-01-28 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book When Amelia’s father died in 1977, her family lived in peace and unity. Her father, Johannes Macala, didn’t believe in diviners though he wasn’t a Christian. However, he occasionally visited mediums, attempting to find explanations for the sickness and misfortune that sometimes dogged the family. Each time he returned from these consultations, the result was the same: he assaulted the medium with his knobkerrie and refused to pay him his fee because he had lied. After Johannes’ death his children had more faith in witchdoctors and prophets than he did. Each sought out witchdoctors, while some consulted the Apostolic Church Prophets when confronted with family death or sickness. The result divided the once united and peaceful family into fragments that could take years to reunite. The shattered family graduated from hating each other to hiring hitmen to poison each other’s children, all on the advice of the prophets and witchdoctors. In Slaves of the One They Chose to Obey, Amelia, the youngest girl and first Christian in the family, shares her story, spreading the message about the dangers of false prophets and diviners.
