Book Giant Oil Fields and World Oil Resources

Download or read book Giant Oil Fields and World Oil Resources written by Richard Nehring and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assesses conventional known and prospective recoverable world crude oil resources by describing and analyzing giant (500 million barrels or more) oil fields. The report lists 272 known giant oil fields containing 76.7 percent of the 1011.5 billion barrels of recoverable crude oil resources as of 1975. The 33 known super-giant (5 billion barrels or more) fields contain more than half of the total. The number of giant fields discovered has been at a high plateau since the early 1960s. The amount discovered in giant fields has dropped sharply during this same period because of a precipitous decline in the number of super-giant discoveries. Ultimate conventional world oil resources are estimated to be between 1700 and 2300 billion barrels. Because few super-giants are likely to be discovered and the discovery rate of other giant fields will soon decline, most future additions will come from additional recovery from known fields, not new discoveries.

Book News Shocks in Open Economies

Download or read book News Shocks in Open Economies written by Mr.Rabah Arezki and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper explores the effect of news shocks on the current account and other macroeconomic variables using worldwide giant oil discoveries as a directly observable measure of news shocks about future output ? the delay between a discovery and production is on average 4 to 6 years. We first present a two-sector small open economy model in order to predict the responses of macroeconomic aggregates to news of an oil discovery. We then estimate the effects of giant oil discoveries on a large panel of countries. Our empirical estimates are consistent with the predictions of the model. After an oil discovery, the current account and saving rate decline for the first 5 years and then rise sharply during the ensuing years. Investment rises robustly soon after the news arrives, while GDP does not increase until after 5 years. Employment rates fall slightly for a sustained period of time.

Book Peeking at Peak Oil

Download or read book Peeking at Peak Oil written by Kjell Aleklett and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-05-19 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term “Peak Oil” was born in January 2001 when Colin Campbell formed the Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas (ASPO). Now, Peak Oil is used thousands of times a day by journalists, politicians, industry leaders, economists, scientists and countless others around the globe. Peak Oil is not the end of oil but it tells us the end is in sight. Anyone interested in food production, economic growth, climate change or global security needs to understand this new reality. In Peeking at Peak Oil Professor Kjell Aleklett, President of ASPO International and head of the world’s leading research group on Peak Oil, describes the decade-long journey of Peak Oil from extremist fringe theory to today’s accepted fact: Global oil production is entering terminal decline. He explains everything you need to know about Peak Oil and its world-changing consequences from an insider’s perspective. In simple steps, Kjell tells us how oil is formed, discovered and produced. He uses science to reveal the errors and deceit of national and international oil authorities, companies and governments too terrified to admit the truth. He describes his personal involvement in the intrigues of the past decade. What happens when a handful of giant oil fields containing two thirds of our planet’s oil become depleted? Will major oil consumers such as the EU and US face rationing within a decade? Will oil producing nations conserve their own oil when they realize that no one can export oil to them in the future? Does Peak Oil mean Peak Economic Growth? If you want to know the real story about energy today and what the future has in store, then you need to be “Peeking at Peak Oil”.

This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The petroleum industry is unique: it is an industry without which modern civilization would collapse. Despite the advances in alternative energy, petroleum’s role is still central. Petroleum still drives economics, geopolitics, and sometimes war. The history of petroleum is, to some measure, the history of the modern world. This book represents a concise but complete one-volume reference on the history of the petroleum industry from pre-modern times to the present day, covering all aspects of business, technology, and geopolitics. The book also presents an analysis of the future of petroleum, and a highly useful set of statistical graphs. Anyone interested in the history, status, and outlook for petroleum will find this book a uniquely valuable first place to look. This new second edition incorporates all the revolutionary changes in the petroleum landscape since the first edition was published, including the boom in extraction of oil and gas from shale formations using techniques such as fracking and horizontal drilling. This second edition of Historical Dictionary of the Petroleum Industry contains a chronology, an introduction, appendixes, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has over 500 cross-referenced entries on companies, people, events, technologies, countries, provinces, cities, and regions related to the history of the world’s petroleum industry. This book is an excellent resource for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about the petroleum industry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The brink of catastrophe or the edge of evolution? The choice is ours. Gold-winner in the "Most Likely to Save the Planet" category of the Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY). This brilliant book is a big-picture synthesis of the new curriculum for activists, educators, social and systems entrepreneurs, planners, and "community organizers" at all levels. Evolution's Edge is vital reading for activists, educators, progressive thinkers, and anyone concerned about the state of our world. A visually pleasing book, its generous use of graphs and charts make clear concepts such as our evolutionary footprint, projected climate change impacts, world populations and economic growth - Kolin Lymworth, The Vancouver Observer Evolution's Edge is simply outstanding - easy to read, inspiring, thoughtful. Its ability to integrate environmental challenges with spritiual issues, technological possibilites and systems evolutionary theory is fantastic. - Sohail Inayatullah, eidtor, Journal of Future Studies It is now five minutes to midnight on the doomsday clock, reflecting the fact that we are closer to assuring the obliteration of our species than we have been at any time since the early eighties. We are rapidly approaching a tipping point, where we will either transform our violent, exploitative global system into a peaceful, cooperative one, or enter a catastrophic decline. Evolution’s Edge shows that limitless economic expansion is impossible on a finite planet. Our growth-based global system will collapse as critical resources become scarce and major ecosystems fail. However, new ideas, values, and technologies can help us avoid disaster and create a better world. Using evolutionary systems theory, Evolution’s Edge explains how societies evolve and why rapid, nonlinear change is not only possible but inevitable. It describes: Collapse—how cascading crises will soon provoke system failure Transformation—how emerging technologies, ideas, values, and social organizations are supporting the evolution of a sustainable system Analysis—how societies evolve into increasingly complex and conscious systems Action—how a common, cooperative vision can accelerate constructive global change Evolution’s Edge is a practical guide to a sustainable future and is vital reading for activists, educators, progressive thinkers, and anyone concerned about the state of our world. Graeme Taylor is a social activist committed to constructive global transformation and the coordinator of BEST Futures, a project supporting sustainable solutions through researching how societies change and evolve.

Book It s the Crude Dude

Download or read book It s the Crude Dude written by Linda McQuaig and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Probes the mystery of what really lay behind the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Even as Washington's rationales for war have been thoroughly discredited, there's been a stunning silence about its real motives. Any mention of oil is practically shouted down. Breaking this virtual taboo, Canadian journalist McQuaig explores Washington's desire to gain control over the largest untapped oil reserves on earth and establish a major military presence in the fantastically oil-rich region--even as dwindling worldwide reserves threaten to turn competition for crude into the major international battleground of the future. Particularly taboo has been any suggestion of the involvement of Big Oil. Yet, for decades, the giant oil companies have enjoyed the power to shape policy, manipulate markets, and even topple foreign governments. In the process, they've reaped staggering profits--now bigger than ever. The quest for crude continues to determine events around the world.--From publisher description.

Book The A to Z of the Petroleum Industry

Download or read book The A to Z of the Petroleum Industry written by Marius S. Vassiliou and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2009-09-24 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world as we have known it for the past century would have been very different without petroleum. Petroleum, particularly in the form of crude oil and its refined products, has been central to all aspects of modern industrial society and has been a major strategic geopolitical objective for nations. The 20th century was the age of oil, and at least part of the 21st century will be as well. Petroleum is used as an energy source and as a raw material for the production of an immense variety of chemicals and synthetic materials. Almost all the world's food relies on petroleum for fertilizer, pesticides, cultivation, or transport. Petroleum has been particularly dominant as a source of transportation fuels, an application for which cost-effective substitutes will be especially difficult to find. The A to Z of the Petroleum Industry presents a concise but complete one-volume reference on the history of the petroleum industry from pre-modern times to the present day. This is done through a chronology, an introductory essay, and over 400 cross-referenced dictionary entries on companies, people, places, events, technologies, and phenomena related to the history of the world's petroleum industry. Anyone interested in the history, status, and outlook for the petroleum industry will find this book a uniquely valuable source.
