Download or read book Theory of Nuclear Reactions written by Alekseĭ Grigorʹevich Sitenko and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1990 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents an extended version of the lecture course on the theory of nuclear reactions that has been given by the author for some years in Kiev State University. An account is given of the nonrelativistic nuclear reaction theory. The R -- matrix description of nuclear reactions is considered and the dispersion method is formulated. Mechanisms of nuclear reactions and their relationship are studied in detail. Attention is paid to nuclear reactions involving the compound nuclear formation and to direct nuclear processes. The optical model, the diffraction approach and high -- energy diffraction nuclear processes involving composite particles are discussed. It also deals with some problems treated only in special journal papers.
Download or read book In Search of the Physical Basis of Life written by Gilbert Ling and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is highly probable that the ability to distinguish between living and nonliving objects was already well developed in early prehuman animals. Cognizance of the difference between these two classes of objects, long a part of human knowledge, led naturally to the division of science into two categories: physics and chemistry on the one hand and biology on the other. So deep was this belief in the separateness of physics and biology that, as late as the early nineteenth century, many biologists still believed in vitalism, according to which living phenomena fall outside the confines of the laws of physics. It was not until the middle of the nineteenth century that Carl Ludwig, Hermann von Helmholz, Emil DuBois-Reymond, and Ernst von Briicke inaugurated a physicochem ical approach to physiology in which it was recognized clearly that one set of laws must govern the properties and behavior of all matter, living and nonliving . . The task of a biologist is like trying to solve a gigantic multidimensional crossword fill in the right physical concepts at the right places. The biologist depends on puzzle: to the maturation of the science of physics much as the crossword solver depends on a large and correct vocabulary. The solver of crossword puzzles needs not just a good vocabulary but a special vocabulary. Words like inee and oke are vitally useful to him but are not part of the vocabulary of an English professor.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new theory of the living cell, the association-induction hypothesis, has been proposed. This book examines this revolution in cell physiology which has successfully withstood 25 years of world-wide testing. It has already generated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Book excerpt: "...This volume is presented as a story or history starting from the moment Mankind began to peek into the microscopic world of cells and microbes with the invention of microscopes-and even earlier, much earlier-continuing through landmark events of false starts and new insights put away for the wrong reasons etc., etc., culminating in the association-induction hypothesis of today."--vii.
Download or read book Transition Metal Nuclear Magnetic Resonance written by P. S. Pregosin and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1991 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transition metal NMR spectroscopy has progressed enormously in recent years. New methods, and specifically solid-state methods and new pulse sequences, have allowed access to data from nuclei with relatively low receptivities with the result that chemists have begun to consider problems previously inaccessible. Moreover, theory, and computational science in particular, now permits the calculation of not just 13 C, 15 N and other light nuclei chemical shifts, but also heavy main-group elements and transition metals. This, combined with increasing access to high field pulsed spectrometers has produced a wealth of new data on NMR of transition metals. understanding and using the nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of the metals of Groups 3-12. The reader is provided with a view on how these nuclei are currently being approached, and what information can be obtained. The authors have liberally reproduced spectra as well as correlations relating metal-NMR data to different physical characteristics of their molecules.

Download or read book Giant Resonances written by P.F. Bortigan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series of volumes, Contemporary Concepts in Physics, is addressed to the professional physicist and to the serious graduate student of physics. The subject of many-body systems constitutes a central chapter in the study of quantum mechanics, with applications ranging from elementary particle and condensed matter physics to the behaviour of compact stellar objects. Quantal size effects is one of the most fascinating facets of many-body physics; this is testified to by the developments taking place in the study of metallic clusters, fullerenes, nanophase materials, and atomic nuclei. This book is divided into two main parts: the study of giant resonances based on the atomic nucleus ground state (zero temperature), and the study of the y-decay of giant resonances from compound (finite temperature) nuclei.
Download or read book Chemistry of the Platinum Group Metals written by F.R. Hartley and published by . This book was released on 1991-08-30 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemistry of platinum group metals is a rapidly expanding commercially important field. It is dominated by the catalytic properties of the metals. They are useful in petrochemical and general chemical plants and are becoming increasingly important as autocatalysts for pollution control. The book covers recent developments in the chemistry of the six platinum group metals, namely, platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium and osmium. The material falls into three broad areas. Firstly, the occurrence, extraction and use of the metals, especially in catalysis, electrochemistry, energy and electronics. Secondly, organometallic and homogeneous catalytic chemistry and last but not least coordination chemistry including biochemistry and cancer therapy. The work is aimed at scientists in universities and in industry using any of the six platinum group metals in research. It will be useful for those studying the compounds of the metals themselves, and those considering to use either the metals or their complexes and catalysts in their experimental work.
